Excellent self-catering facilities. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms, lounge, kitchen/eating area [fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, oven etc..], balcony, air conditioning and ceiling fans. Cleaned each day and new towels provided if needed. Dave and Angela managed the place and nothing was too much trouble. Dave spent about 30 mins suggesting the various pros and cons of Barrier Reef trips (of which there are dozens) and trip to the Daintree Rainforest. Once we had decided Dave immediately rang the operators to check there were spaces and to complete the bookings (all done at no extra charge in 10 mins). Angela provided extra towels for the Reef trip and we were very impressed by our final choice(s). When we left a taxi was organised for the airport. We also were given a good deal for the apartment as we stayed 4 nights. The cost per night was AUS$150 (about £65) for all three of us !!

Cairns centre is rather like an American Midwest town. Wide streets, some run down properties and some fairly modern premises. It has a fiarly large shopping mall but that seemed to close at about 6 pm, so you need to get to the supermarket soon if you arrive late afternoon. The sea-front area was quite nice (if a bit 'Blackpoolish' in places), but there isn't much beach near the main part of town. There was a variety of restaurants but, as in many [most?] places in Australia they seemed to stop serving about 9 pm. Cairns itself could do with a facelift but we did find the people helpful. If you want a 'posher' area then you could consider Palm Beach or Trinity Bay but there didn't appear to be much there for self catering.
