When we first arrived in Cairns, we were told that it had rained continuously for a month and judging by the greenery, this was believable. However, although Jan - March is rainy season in Cairns, we had fabulous weather for the whole time we were there.

The hotel was lovely and right in the rainforest with a stream running through the middle of the hotel. Rooms were very modern and light and airy although we did have some surprise visitors in the form of geko lizards which are totally harmless and common in the rainforest. The pool at the hotel was a saltwater pool with swim up bar which was fabulous. The staff were very friendly and helpful and food could be ordered all day with the option of taking it back to your room if you preferred.

Four mile beach is a fabulous beach which, believe it or not, is four miles in length. However, we were there in the 'stinger' season which meant that you could only swim in a netted off section of the sea. There are a number of shops and bars on the main street that serve food all day. A trip to the Great Barrier Reef is a must. We booked through a small company and went on a boat called the Tallarook. It was fantastic and much better than going on Quiksilver which is highly commercial and very expensive. There were only twelve of us in total and we had an excellent service with a fantastic barbecue on board after we'd exhausted ourselves snorkelling and diving. All the crew were very friendly and it was very relaxed. You could even take your own drinks on board if you preferred and store them in the fridge below deck.

All in all we had a great time in Port Douglas and wouldn't hesitate to return.
