Vienna is picturesque with lots of old buildings. It can be quite pricey to do some of the touristy stuff and you can probably do it all within a few days. Worth seeing though!

A great base for skiing the SkiWelt area. The resort was small and friendly with a typical Austrian feel to it. There were lots of shops and bars and plenty of cash point machines. It was a reasonable distance from the airport too.

Vienna review
"Plenty to see,excellent public transport"
resort to a friend
A clean city with lots to see, and easy to get around. There are no beaches (hence the 'poor' rating) - Austria is a landlocked country afterall! It's a fairly expensive city and this isn't helped by the current weakness of the Pound. You can however quite comfortably get a good meal and drink for €20. As for things to see and do, Vienna is rich in unique architecture, especially in the centre. The Danube river also offers great views and nice river-side walks.

Obergurgl review
"Guaranteed snow, non existent nightlife"
resort to a friend
Obergurgl is high, over 2000m just above the village so the ski season is long and lasts from November to late April. The village is dominated by about half a dozen large family owned hotels at the top end of the market, with about a dozen smaller ones and various small apartments, all privately owned by the descendants of the original peasants who lived in this remote high valley.
The skiing is good for decent intermediates but limited if you are expert, although there is a link to Hochgurgl which opens another range of possibilities.
This is a place for families and couples who aren't interested in bashing moguls in the daytime and sinking pints in the evening. It's expensive, but not exclusive and in some ways a bit dull. If you are looking for a quiet, easy paced skiing holiday, this is the place. If your idea of fun is disco music and drunken revellers at 2am, this is not the place.

Westendorf is a small friendly ski village which attracts a lot of Dutch and Irish visitors rather than English. Nightlife is informal but the bars stay open late and are relatively inexpensive. The ski lifts are conveniently located within walking distance from most of the hotels. There is also a regular bus service to Kitzbuhel, which you can catch if you want to get a quick connection to the wider Ski Welt area.

Seefeld is a lovely village with restaurants and shops, there is a spar supermarket which is very reasonable. We enjoyed the skiing at Seefeld, the only problem for us was that the nursery slopes are a bus ride away from other slopes,so were not close to children for picking them up etc. The ski school is excellent and we all improved alot. The nursery slopes are excellent to learn on.

St Johann in Tirol is a lovely town - we visited in January to go cross-country skiing. It is very good for skiing - either downhill or cross country. There are a variety of slopes for all ages, as well as ski schools for beginners. The town has quite a few shops, and restaurants and cafes. Everything is very reasonably priced. There are plenty of things to do - we went on a horse and carriage ride one night around the town, and it was beautiful. There is a Spar supermarket which is great for lunches and snacks in the centre of the town. It is not far from the nearest airport, and many tour operators offer days out and excursions to local areas.

Zell Am See review
"Quaint, quiet but stunning"
resort to a friend
The resort of Zell am See in summer is really only for couples who love eachs other company enough that the scenic views and quaint village houses are the icing on the cake. Really a sking village, Zell am See is quiet in summer. Pretty and friendly with the mighty Alps as a back drop, it's a beautiful laid back place. But once you have visited the lake, tried a couple of eating places and tried the local ale you will find yourself bored unless you have hired transport. If you have a car or bike then Austria is in your hands. Not far from Salzburg and Mozart's birth place, the bustling town of Innsbruck and the stunning Grossglockner (Europes biggest glacier), Zell am See is a fine rest place after a busy day out.

Niederau review
"Skiing in Niederau (and Auffach)"
resort to a friend
As it snowed most of the week, the skiing in Niederau was pretty good. It is a good resort for beginners and intermedidate/advanced skiiers but there isn't much for those who have just gone past the beginner stage.
You can get the bus over to Auffach which has about 15 more slopes.
Overall very impressed with the resort.

If you are a walker' then this is quite a good place to visit in spring or summer when all the skiers have gone and there is peace and tranquility. Don't be put off by the other reviews. This place is really a walkers paradise providing you have the right footwear' clothing and equipment. Some of the walks are quite steep so its not the place for young childre or the elderly or infirm.

Salzburg is so pretty, but very expensive even bearing in mind the euro exchange rate is against us. The beautiful castle is a great walk through the old town away, and suitable for the very fit! (there is a funicular railway for those of us less athletic)

Uttendorf review
"Uttendorf - a charming alpine village"
resort to a friend
Uttendorf is a picturesque alpine village with small shops and restaurants. It is set amidst stunning scenery both in summer and winter. Access to other villages, towns and larger cities is easy by road, or local bus and rail transport.
