Mayrhofen review
"Active Lifestyle encouraged"
resort to a friend
this is a resort designed for those who seek an active holiday of hiking, mountain biking and other sports, as there isn't that much to do in the resort if it is rainy! Though I thoroughly enjoyed having a delicious cakes which are a favourite of the Austrians!

Beautiful town centre with activities in the square, and if not in one of the many large hotels, where nonresidents can attend. Try the Egger Cafe which is new, fantastic Hot Chocolate with Amaretto!! Shops nice, not all tourist tat, plenty places to eat and drink. Price of 0.5l beer at the time was between 3 and 3.30 euro. Lots of walks around too, you don't have to leave the place if you don't want to. Don't be put off by the fact that St Johann spans a main road, when you're in the town you have no noise or awareness of any of the traffic on the bypass, it's just another beautiful Austria village!

The location was beautiful and there were loads of things to do. The prices were reasonable and the food in the restaurants was very delicious. I cannot wait for our return trip there.

Very pretty town centre which is car free in places. Everywhere is very clean There's a lovely big tree in the centre with seats round which is lit up at night. The bandstand was used most nights while we we there in July. Horsedrawn carriages take you round the town, but don''t know the price beacause we didn't use them. There's a swimming lake which is very nice to walk round. There's a public swimming pool to use if you wish. We went on an open chair lift, they are usually not working in the summer, which was good. There's a furnicular railway too just on the edge of town. Pick up a walking map to make the most of the excellent hiking routes.

The skiing is always decent and I am no expert, but can manage fairly well. Lech and Zurs are the place to be if you want easy and leisurely skiing. If you want to go off piste, might I suggest a guide, or tagging up with people who are expert skiers. DO wear a beeper, just in case. It's true what they say, that you might never ski all the available runs there are. My husband skied from the Valluga to Langen one year and took a taxi back to Landeck to get the train back to St. Anton.

If there’s a more picturesque hotel than Rote Wand, in a more scenic hamlet than Zug, outside a more exclusive village than Lech then I’d love to see it. For the active there’s a ski hire shop in the basement and you can ski from the hotel’s doorstep to the chairlift or to the cross country skiing trail. The trail is wonderfully pretty and secluded following the river from Lech to Alpele, where there’s a lodge style bar and restaurant that is only reachable by skis or snow taxi .

Soll is a nice resort which attracts a large number of English and Irish visitors. It had a reputation for being rowdy, but I've never seen this. In fact it is fairly quiet with only a few bars and restaurants. We went at the end of the season, and the snow was rapidly melting, but they take great care of the slopes and it was possible to ski down to the bottom every day.

Just came back from an amazing ski week there. They've got everything you could wish from a ski resort. Lots of slopes with lots of snow, for all range of skiers, from wide blue ski motorways to extreme black offroad trails. On top of that breathtaking landscapes, great restaurants, bars, clubs, swimming pool/spa, evening ski show and what not. I especially liked the vastness of the skiing area. And the infrastructure is great, lifts, skibuses etc.

Vienna is a historical town for everyone who likes music, museum and beautiful architecture. Don’t forget to visit the Freud Museum, the place where the psychologist lived before he moved to London. If anyone asked you to see a concert, ignore them. I fell into the trap and was very disappointed.

I can't comment on beaches because this was a skiing holiday, but the area was beautiful and the facilities near by were all good - lovely bars and reasturants. All the bars on the ski slopes offered good Austrian cooking and the service was great everywhere.

The Alpenzoo is a must if you're travelling in Innsbruck. First of all, it is built into the side of a mountain. You ride up in a funicular (which is rather neat), and there's a terrific view of the town from all parts of the zoo. Secondly, the zoo is made up of only animals that are indigenous to Austria. So you see some interesting ones. They allow cameras, the gift shop is really cute, and the staff is nice and efficient. There's a little food shop that sells typical Austrian fare, and it's pretty good and very reasonably priced. You can eat outside if weather permits.

Been a couple of times before, it is one of our favourite resorts. Some brilliant runs, and some challenging ones which is good for us. Lots of good bars in the resort centre too, tremendous apres-ski.

Zell am See is a lovely lakeside resort, suitable for both winter and summer holidays. The quaint pedestrianised area has a variety of bars, restaurants and shops, as well as some very smart hotels. The lake provides a scenic backdrop, particularly if you are skiing on the nearby Schmittenhohe mountain. The range of skiing is good particularly when you add in the neighbouring resort of Kaprun and its glacier, both of which are accessible by bus from the town centre. Resort prices are not too expensive so you can enjoy yourself without breaking the bank. The resort is easily accessible by rail, as well as by road.
