Just book up now and go there you won't regret it! Short transfer from Innsbruck-nice scenery on route. Friendly small hotel managed/staffed by Brits. Avoid the tail end of summer season (after our week I think things will run down). Near bus route and taxi also nearby as are mini markets. Niederau IS scenery. Make use of the free card for the gondola (cablecar) -not scary. Cafe at top is an ideal starting point for walking-looking south the building in the distance is the dairy. They do very nice fresh food/joghurts etc. Cows roam around with their bells - very friendly.
Trip to Grossglockner glacier. Tremendous views en route.Long journey/coffee stops/very little time at the glacier and not a great deal to see there (the guide recommended we just watch a film about it!!) I got the railway down (quite an experience - costs extra). The glacier used to be at the bottom but is a very strenuous journey of hundreds of winding steps to the bottom - where I found a tape across stopping me from going onto the glacier proper. Took a photo of the rock face,turned to take a picture of the glacier when I heard a rumbling - a minor rock fall - scary but not dangerous.
Trip to Innsbruck and the famous Schwarskski? Crystal centre. I would suggest just get the bus to Worgl, train to Innsbruck and go to the Crystal shop. Crystals buggy ride, Tyrolean evening, walks and quiz night are worth doing. Staff and reps at the hotel are very good. Steve the rep REALLY loves the Sound of Music (pretends to hate it) so sing it to him whenever you can!!
Good meals including packed lunch or credit towards hotel lunch we didn't eat much outside the hotel(but menu does repeat weekly). Using your free card gives you access to swimming pool and tennis courts some way away. Also free entry to the Farmers museum (go on Thursday 1.30pm for Craft exhibitions -half price entry) - Try the doughnuts with cranberry - superb. Walk back by following the route of the stream behind the market - See the sculptures etc along the way.
Suggest bus to Wogl and train 2 stops to Rattenburg - quaint old town for half day trip but get back at 4pm to sit in front of hotel Vicky for your afternoon tea/cake/fruit. If you want to go to Munich get the 9.15 express from Wogl.
