Went in September, out of the Ski season, but the place was fantastic for walking and beautiful scenery. Highly recommended. Great for "Things to do and see" if you want to get out and walk, otherwise not much open out of ski season.

Obergurgl is high, over 2000m just above the village so the ski season is long and lasts from November to late April. The village is dominated by about half a dozen large family owned hotels at the top end of the market, with about a dozen smaller ones and various small apartments, all privately owned by the descendants of the original peasants who lived in this remote high valley.

The skiing is good for decent intermediates but limited if you are expert, although there is a link to Hochgurgl which opens another range of possibilities.

This is a place for families and couples who aren't interested in bashing moguls in the daytime and sinking pints in the evening. It's expensive, but not exclusive and in some ways a bit dull. If you are looking for a quiet, easy paced skiing holiday, this is the place. If your idea of fun is disco music and drunken revellers at 2am, this is not the place.
