Praia Do Forte Holiday Reviews

Weather was very good, 26-30 degrees everyday and we had about 6 hours of rain in the two weeks. The only downside was being delayed at Gatwick for about 10 hours and First Choice not even making an announcement to tell the passengers! We only found out by speaking directly to the First Choice desk, given some food vouchers and left to wait. Not even a complimentary drink on the plane, which I thought was very bad customer service.

Don’t try to compare Brazil with Cuba, Mexico, Dom Rep as it is a new tourist area and the others have been open for years. I am sure anyone who chooses it in 2007 will not be disappointed and will get excellent value for money. Expect 5 star and you may be disappointed but you will get 4*+, and who knows by 2007 it may have achieved 5*s

No non motorised water sports. (strong undercurrents) I think that motorised cannot take place because of the turtles. No turtles yet as they don’t lay till later in the year.

All in all we had a brilliant holiday. We did one of the trips but they were generally naf and expensive. 40 dollars each for a conoeing, jeep and beach trek. It was ok but nothing special. Rio was very expensive and most people did it on the way out at the beginning of there holiday. We worked it out to be £300+ each to go but all in all one to remember.

The hotel grounds were wonderfully laid out with long walkways running around the boundary and leading back to the main block/food/disco and theatre areas. During out 2 weeks a new block was opened plus another swimming pool and this was a nice quieter area away from the main pool area & noisy people.

The 1 night trip down to Rio is worth every penny just to see Christ - The Redeemer statue alone. It was wonderful!

The traffic layout around Rio is quite confusing, but the tour coach and guide get you around to see all the best sights - brilliant 2 days away - great memories.

All the swimming pools are open now, and although we didn’t sit around the pool, there seemed to be enough sun beds to go round. While we were there, some baby turtles were released on the beach in front of the hotel which was lovely to watch.

Prior to this hotel, we have stayed in the Riu Palace Playacar, and I would rate this hotel as good as that, and I never thought I would find a hotel that good again!

Great resort - hotel on a private beach with sunloungers and hotel staff on hand plus lifeguards. Beach beautiful white sand - sit still long enough and you'll see little crabs popping up to say hello! Gets very hot throughout the day and a dip in the sea is nice but not suitable for swimming - sea is very rough and although a good swimmer was unable to stand without being knocked by the waves. No good for snorkelling as not clear enough to see anything. A short walk along the beach takes you to the nearest town Praia du forte where there is a lovely educational turtle sanctuary with lots of baby turtles that hatch and are then released back into the sea. A must to watch if you get the chance!

The holiday overall was lovely. But why are tour operators going in their autumn. We had 2 weeks but had 3 full days of rain from morning til night, several days of overcast but warm and sorry to break the bad news its only going to get worse over the next couple of month. The trips are expensive and only a few available we got there on the thursday and people who landed on saturday had very little left. Tropicana adventure excellant a full fun packed day. the guides are really good. Salvador really interesting and another packed day.Bahia by night another excellant trip with good entertainment shame about the food. We did not go to Rio it was over £800 for 2 nights bed and breakfast for 2. and we thought that money could go towards another hol, Brazil is a fantastic place and the people are friendly and dont pester when your out and about but disappointing as far as trips out. We enjoyed the experience but would not go back. Praia do forte is a lovely fishing village mainly cheap shops with tacky souvenirs
