This was our Honeymoon and was looking forward to visiting Rio - Once there though we got bored very easliy - I think though we may have travelled there out of season! the weather was poor and there was not much going on in the city.
We visited Sugar Loaf mountain - Fantastic views and the wife, who is scared of heights, loved the cable ride up there! Also visited the Maracana football stadium which to my disappointment was being renovated at the time but still worth while. We didn't get to see the Christ Redemeer statue as it was always covered in cloud!!
Now to the hotel - Excellant - all the staff are extemely friendly, even though some struggle with English - but you don't really expect them to speak it! We were on the 28th floor and had great views over copacabana. The food was really good and the restaurant on the top floor is a must to visit! the rooms were excellant cleaned twice a day!
All in all if you travel at the right time of year i'm sure this would be a fantastic holiday!

April 2007, just returned from 9 nights in the Le Meridien hotel, Copacabana.
This hotel is the tallest building on the Copacabana and just been taken over by the Iberostar hotel chain. From a distance it looks impressive, and when you enter the hotel foyer this is confirmed!
A large marble reception area, furnished with well dressed security men,is quite classy with a quiet air of quality. we stayed on floor 31 (of 37) with a sea view - magnificent! You can see the whole length of the Copacabana beach and beyond. The bedroom was all right, the bathroom a bit mouldy in places, but I'm sure that Iberostar will spend money on re-decorating the rooms. The Bella Vista restaurant on the fourth floor has good food, but the menu is a bit boring. Breakfast is served here as a buffet, with a good selection of dishes to choose from. The fourth floor also house the pool, not large but never busy, with loungers and a shaded area to sit and enjoy the local cocktails! The biggest asset that this hotel has is its staff - first class! Everyone of the staff from the reception area through to the waitng staff in the restaurant were genuinely friendly and welcoming - absolutely brilliant! This hotel is in an area which is very busy with traffic but with the windows being sealed, there is absolutely no noise to worry about.
We had a great time in Rio, and the hotel is very good and will get better should Iberostar invest in it.
