Sunny Beach review
"New Ibiza/Magaluf - Geared for 18-30's"
resort to a friend
Because of the cheap booze (1 pint costing 1 Lev = 50p), lots of young drinkers there and nightclubs. Didn't see any trouble tho', may be this is because the resort is Mafia run and they don't mess about if any trouble. There are some quieter parts, Nessebar is nice, but Sunny Beach is not for anyone wanting a relaxing hol.

The beach is nice but you need to start looking after the volley ball pitch as nearer the Royal Bay it's rocky.
Nice pool although not the warmest.
You have to queue for drinks and they have a habit of shutting early. Stefan the main barman was surly at best. Top tip get a big tankard (pint+) and keep hold of it, it seems to annoy him immensely.
Food, very samey, things like chicken and lamb looked more like road kill. I tended to stick to the kids processed food. If you want a beer with your food expect a long wait. Lots of the tables were dirty so it was quite a feat to find a clean one that was set. The high chair was falling to bits.
Weather fine
If you want to watch sports, best bet is Paco's bar out of the complex, where you have to pay but it's 2 Lev for a pint so cheap.
Animation Hall, bit naff, but okay if you like watching folk miming.
Formation towel bomb raids at 7am and not just by the usual suspects, not sure why folk feel the need to have loungers for kids who don't use them or folk who feel the need to take up a lounger all day when they are on the beach? Quite a few wasps about, esp where folk have knocked over sweet drinks of course. Nice touch was the bins had lids otherwise it would have been unbearable.
Nessabar a nice boat trip day out (found a geocache also)
Cheap cigarettes
No cars about which is nice re the bairns
Nice holiday makers there to chat with and moan about the room rip off and surly barman, which passed the time as there's not a whole heap to do.
Overall worst holiday I've ever had, amazed Thomas Cook want anything to do with the place, shame as it wouldn't take much to make it really good.
Have been to Bulgaria before and would go back again but not for a gold clock would I go to the Royal Bay.

Not a bad resort if you ignore the beggars, prostitutes and thieves. Beaches and the shops are OK. Not somewhere I would visit again.

There is a water park in the resort and we walked there via the Turkish market area in less than 15 mins. The water park in Nessebar is bigger but they have a system in place where you wear an electronic watch that you have to pre-load with money and you then pay for everything wearing the watch. You have to queue at the end of the day to get your money back that you didn't spend and you queue forever and people push and shove you and don't wait their turn. Waiting for the free bus back to the resort was the same. The bus arrived and everyone pushed and shoved and elbow you out of the way. They cram the busses full and it's very unsafe. I recommend the water park in Sunny Beach as it was more orderly and the lifeguards were better. the queues for the rides in Nessebar were far too long and you queue inside the towers leading up to the rides which is freezing as you are shaded from the sun.
Be careful when you eat out in Sunny Beach or Nessebar and as you are eating check that your meat is cooked through - particularly the chicken. I know of a couple of people, me included where the chicken was raw in the middle (avoid cafe 166!!). Djanie's is a lovely restaurant but go before 7pm or you have to queue in the street. The Castle on the main strip is good too and also the Condor Bistro is great. Also, further along the strip check out the bikini bar that sits on the beach, it is fab!
Nessebar was quieter and there are some lovely places to eat there with lovely settings overlooking the sea. The bus there was only 1 lev and it takes you right to the terminus at Nessebar so you can sit back and enjoy the journey without worrying about where to get off the bus.
I would recommend getting the little train there but you have to change trains. On the way back from Nessebar quite a few people asked the driver if he went to Sunny Beach and they will tell you they do but they don't!! Don't be fooled. You will be driven along the front and then up the hill where the train stops at the edge of the resort of Nessebar where it meets sunny beach. From there you have to cut through the big hotel and then across and to the back of the Imperial Hotel to get the next train to the middle of Sunny Beach. Otherwise it would be about an hours walk.

The resort of Sunny Beach seemed a bit commercial and a little seedy to me, with sex clubs and shops and loads of bars. We didn't venture out of the hotel at night as our son was so young and it didn't seem a very family type place at night time, but was fine during the day. The shops all sold designer copies - some great quality, some not so. There was a little road train that was a good, cheap way to travel around and also plenty of horses and carriages to see the sights on. The beach was fantastic - lovely warm water that was shallow to quite far out and gorgeous fine and clean sand. The Laguna park Hotel is well placed to visit the beach - a 5-10 min walk. We also visited the historical town of Nessebur which is gorgeous (with lovely little cobbled streets and ruins and the usual range of designer rip-offs for the shopping addicts). We travelled back to Sunny Beach from Nessebur by boat which was lovely. One evening we went to Khan's tent and had a fab time. The show was very professional with acrobats, fire eater, dancers, trapeze acts, a clown and loads more. the meal was nice too and the wine hit the spot! The live band played some popular tunes that got everyone up dancing so all in all a worthwhile trip. I think holidays are what you make of them and exploring somewhere new is exciting so who cares if the bacon isn't how we have it at home ... go to the Laguna Park, try the food (it always tasted much better than it looked), and enjoy somewhere new.

Golden Sands itself is a great resort for families; my children loved it (they are aged 14, 7 and 4 so there really was something for all of them). The beaches were clean and there was plenty of entertainment for them during the day. At night the bars were lively and good fun and I felt very safe there the whole time.
The only thing I would say about Golden Sands is to avoid Party Street after about 11 at night, which is when the prostitutes start prowling around (unless you like that kind of thing!!), but with the kids we tended to take them back to bed before then anyway.
We didn't eat in the hotel (apart from breakfast which was OK - my 7 year old especially loved the pancakes) but it is so cheap to eat out in Golden Sands we didn't need to eat at the hotel anyway.

This is one of the biggest resorts we've been to. They resort was really busy but no one seemed to be spending money, bars and restraunts were empty, all inc hotels are taking the business. Loads for kids to do on the beach front, mini bungi jumps, switchies, fun parks etc.

A mountain holiday is not for those seeking restaurants, bars and nightlife. It was fantastic to really get away from it all. The mountain villages maintain an almost forgotten way of life with the friendly people making us feel very welcome indeed. We walked to Devils Bridge and took an excursion to Perperikon. Both were well worth the trip. Melanya Mountain Retreat is a walkers paradise and mountain bikers are never short of places to explore. We tried all the activities and enjoyed some quality time together in a place that seems to put a smile on your face from the moment you wake.

we found a great place to eat when you walk out of the hotel you just turn left and it is there. it was called Iskar Bistro. We ate there nearly every night it was very nice and very cheap. the staff there were fantastic. The were 6 of us eating there and we usually paid around £7 per head including the drinks. Lots of children begging on the streets outside the hotel wanting money, food and drink! If u have a drink in ure hand or if they see one they will snatch it out your hand! So jst be careful!
