I too had heard bad things about this hotel, but I needent have bothered worrying. The hotel itself was fine not the most glitzy you can stay in but served its purpose it was literally the bedrooms only in this building. The restaurant was across the road, as was the pools and all other activities. The food varied and there was fresh meat cooked every day which varied each day. For the kids there was a kids corner which was pasta, chips, beans etc. Always had fresh salads and cheeses, fresh bread, massive selection of main courses and soups etc. Something for everyone.

The resort was packed with things to do, shooting range my 11 year old loved. Volley ball, tennis, football, pool, computers giving internet access. Shops. An excellent stall which did pencil portraites well recommended. I would recommend people change their money in the hotel we had a 2.73 exchange rate whereas at home it was 2.54. Staff were friendly but not too English speaking, it mostly catered for the germans they were fluent in German as were the shops on the main street. There is mini golf to do in Albena, lots of shops, a train stops outside the hotel about every 20 mins which is cheap to go into the main street. Shopping is cheap, and as for the ladies of the night, I didnt see one!!
you wont be disappointed with your holiday, something for everyone.

We arrived at the Ralitsa Hotel at 21.15 greeted by lots of porters who grabbed our bags and carried them to the reception of the hotel (all of 15yards and expected a tip)when we checked in they tried to carry our bags again to the room but we just managed to grab them first.

We were late getting in and the restaraunt had closed but were told that we could get food at the bar outside. We had booked AI. there was cold pizza burned sausages and cold chips with salad. It was raining so we decided to go back to our room,on inspection of the room we found it to be very damp the curtains were covered in mildew as was all round the patio door and skirting. I turned back my quilt and there were some nasty brown stains on the underside of it (dread to think what that was)

The grouting in the shower cubilcle was also black with mildew. On getting into bed it felt cold and damp. I complained to the rep and was told that it was because of the humidity. The food in the restaraunt was passable but we ate out some of the time.

The complex itself was very nice, 2 lovely pools and the grounds are very beautiful. Staff in the hotel very good Maids came in every day. Albena is a nice resort you must visit the Tropical Cafe. Brilliant. The weather was poor while we were there so it was difficult to find anything to do on the comlex. Not enough seating inside the hotel so had to sit in your room.

Bulgaria is a nice place but would never go back to this hotel.

This resort is ideal fo families with the hotel offering a range of activities however it is very much geared up for the Germans and the Russians. The food was mostly inedible and once again it catered more for the Germans, we all had lost weight by the end of our ten days, be warned it is very hard to feed a child in this hotel let alone an adult. We ate out at the loco poco and found their food very nice. We have all come back with severe upset stomachs.

The beach in Albena is beautiful but the sun loungers are expensive. We experienced a bad storm and this apparently happens on a regular basis, the weather is unpredictable being sunny one minute and then raining the next.

Beware if flying with Balkan airlines as we experienced the worst flights ever both outbound and inbound with the plane overshooting the runway on the way in and only just coming to a stop on the way back. The food on the flight is salmonella waiting to happen and the crew are very rude.

Dont think i would recommend Bulgaria to anyone and certainly wouldnt return.

We went to the ralitsa hotel with our mum and dad with first choice and we thought it was excellent. the food was a bit different to what we were used to but it was still very nice (ESPECIALLY THE CAKE) and there was never a day where we couldnt find anything to eat. the hotel was very clean and there was always a maid around who was very friendly. our balcony had a really nice view of the beer garden which was a very nice place to sit at night. most of the staff at the hotel were very friendly (especially the bar staff). the train ride that goes round the resort is very nice and cheap, if you go at night there is a puppet man dancing some puppets outside a stall. the jeep safari is a great excursion to do but only go on it if you dont mind getting wet, it is very bumpy so remember to hold on. (DONT FALL ASLEEP LIKE I DID,amy) the little town of balchik is also nice but small. the pool at the hotel is very nice but make sure you get some sunbeds in the morning. the animation team and lifeguards are very funny and friendly.

we thought the holiday was excellent and would definetley go again.

I have recently returned from my holiday which I was very apprahensive about as I had read all the reviews on here.

Well what can I say - The Hotel must have had a complete makeoveer!!!

I had a wonderful time - Apart from the weather, we had a few rainy days (which apparently is really unsual for July.

The hotel and resort are emaculatly clean and we had maids cleaning our room every day. The maids are excellent and very friendly. There is not a single piece of rubbish to be seen in the hotel or resort at all.

The food was really rather nice. There are lot of german sasuages, meats and vegitables, but they also had roast turkeys and chickens and a lot of veal which was infact beef. there were loads of chips and rice a salids i would say unless you are a very very fussy eater then there was something for everyone each night. We did however eat out a couple of nights as it was so cheap.

all in all the hotel was excellent, food, entertainment and aminaties.

The only problem we encountered were the germans. They like not to queue or smile or even acknowledge you. I had them try to push in the queue in the food line but i just refused to let her in and she said something in german and I pointed to the end of the queue and she walked off rather angry. my advise is just ignor them and remeber that it is just their culture they are not purposly being arrogant!

all in all i would definately recommend the Ralitsa it was excellent holiday and excellent value for money

We went to Bulgaria for our honeymoon in July, I wasn't sure about going there but my partner was adament. Anyway I couldn't have asked for a better holiday it was fantastic, the hotel is very clean and the staff are friendly and helpful, I'm a fussy eater so didn't like the AI resteraunt much really, Simon liked it but he's very adventurous where as I stick to what I like!! The only meal we had in AI was breakfast where I usually had boiled eggs with crusty bread, at lunch we'd just eat from the AI BBQ (pizza, pasta etc)or somewhere on the beach and most evenings we ate out as very very cheap, I'd reccommend POCO LOCO's to anyone, their food was amazing and they entertained you whilst you ate with brilliant dance performances, and were so friendly.

The beach is gorgeous, with local's selling fresh fruit to you on your beds, there are lots of activities on the beach, we went jet skiing, on a pedalo, banana boat you name it. Scattered along the beach are lots of bars, resteraunts, massage parlours everything!! There's a brilliant karaoke bar on the beach where we went to celbrate Si's 40th, the DJ was very funny and had everyone involved even those who couldn't sing (me!!) got up to do something!! We went into Varna one day but chose to get the bus rather than taxi as taxi drivers will and did try to rip us off, found it very boring so got first bus back, most days spent by the pool which was lovely.Everything is unbelievably cheap, there is something for everyone to do. Desperate to go back again this year!!!

returned after one week in hotel ralitsa, must admit, our 1st impressions were not good, but soon changed our minds. we arrived late afternoon, to be greeted by porters, who were clearly just after tips, and weren't too friendly.

the rooms were great, especially the kids room, which had an upstairs and downstairs, kids loved it.the food in the restaurant upstairs was awful. and we were not happy, the next day the weather was poor, to match the food, there seemed to be hardly anybody in the hotel, it was like a ghost town.

we had a walk round and found another restaurant just underneath the first one we had tried, we went there for our evening meal, and the food was excellent, things were looking up! the next day the sun came out and so did the people! the animation team were fantastic, and there was always plenty going on, even for our kids.

the entertainment was unusual, but didn't last long enough, only about an hour.the hotel was always spotless, as were the grounds. just a five minute walk away from the shops and market, where there were an awful lot of working girls hanging around, all in all, it turned out to be an excellent holiday, and we would definitely return.

if you take english money to change over there, make sure it is not ripped or defaced, they will not accept it.

Just returned from a week here and have to say after reading the reviews was very wary! well very pleased with accommodation- lovely rooms and two pillows and duvet and bedspread. The food was great- plenty of choice and lovely section of salads and fresh fruit.
Pools great, very clean, entertainment was lacking in the evenings and only on for 45 mins but 15 min walk takes you to resort sea front and asome good bars- which all have singers/groups laid on.

Hotel was spotless- from early morning until midnight constant team cleaners/gardeners. Its not the all action resort you might hanker after but its got plenty going on- take a taxi to golden sands if you want more action.

fake designer goods- excellent prices and fags are 50p a pack- booze is cheap too!";

All in all very pleased with all inclusive package- great for teens- sports and games going on all day, you can do as much as you want or as little.

We arrived at the Ralitsa Hotel in Albena in the early hours of the morning but the reception staff were excellant. Our rooms were on the ground floor, rooms basic but nice and clean, pool area was very nice but they say you can't reserve sun beds don't believe it, you can everyone goes down about 7.00 ish and put there towels on their sun beds, although there never seemed to be short of beds. The pools were both nice and clean but as you would expect they were cold. The entertainment team were excellant, were always trying to get you to join in. The food was excellant, if I can say that then it must be as I am a very fussy eater, but I always found something to eat, if you moan about the food then all I can say is you shouldn't go on holiday.

There is a ten pin bowling alley, go karts and dirt racers nearby, two mini golf courses and the market which is mainly made up of one street, but it is a lovely walk from the hotel about 10 mins. The bus station is about five mins walk away and you can visit surrounding areas by bus or just take a taxi, very reasonably priced, and they bring you back again all on the one price. People are really friendly, the rep was excellant. The trips out were all value for money and a lot cheaper than Spain. Clothing is very cheap and so is the drink and food, even although we were all inclusive we still ate out a couple of times - value for money. We enjoyed ourselves that much we have booked already for 2006 and there is 13 of us going back. The hotel is not noisey and we didn't see any trouble at all.

Normally when you go on holiday they say women should not go out on their own well this one is fellas are not safe as they can get accosted by the ladies of the night, it is really funny to watch them home in on your fellas - but it really is a nice place and hotel.

it was the first time in Bulgaria for my parents, my sister and myself and we thoroughly enjoyed it. i would go back to albena however the other 3 would prefer to visit a larger resort eg golden sands. the hotel was lovely. rooms were spacious and tidy, maids were very friendly.

the entertainment team were brilliant, they had entertainment on from 10:30am till 11pm!! they were mainly kiddie orientated during the day however they were busy ALL days with tings such as darts, bowling, water sports etc. at night they did a show, which although great, would have been better were we not expected to sit on hard plastic chairs in rows for an hour. we were about 10mins away from the main town of albena, and there was a courtesy bus every 30mins and a train (about 60p for an adult) every 15mins. the shopping was great! designer gear at really cheap prices! bit worried bout the amount of pr*stitutes however they arent illegal in bulgaria yet, eek! they're very obvious so steer well clear!

bars were pretty empty most nights which was a bit surprising however the one big disco in town, the Wald Konig, was amazing!!! so many people from so many different countries and everyone is so friendly! drinks are v. cheap and its 10mins from hotel. me n my sis hit the bar quite a bit in the second week!!!

the beach is great, lovely sand and sea although it was a bit choppy in the second week and the sunbeds and parasols are expensive! my advice is go to the Caribi bar as you can use theirs for free when you buy a drink. also if you go with first choice, go on the party night. this goes to the Caribi and although it may look empty i assure you, its great! we took a day trip 2 varna one day and had a look round. well worth dong. taxi is about 40-50 Lev and the driver waits for you, all day if you want!!! also did the 'pirate boat' half day trip. not worth it. out for about 3hours, food is a roll. drinks are ok and fishing is a plastic hoop and bit of fishing wire!!

all in all though it was a brilliant holiday and i'd go again!!!

Just returned from a great 2 Week holiday to the Hotel Ralitsa. We were on All Inclusive Package which was great for the Kids.

The Animation Team were great. Food was ok always something to eat. Snack Bar serving Pizza, Chips, Spagetti and Sausage/Meatballs throughout the day. Pool great could always get Sunbeds didnt have to put towels out early. Went to Varna in Taxi costs about 40 Levs. Go to the Markets so cheap Levi Jeans only £10.

The only bad thing about this holiday was the WEATHER we only had 7 good days out of the 14 and the Germans this hotel caters more for them than the English. Albena itself is very nice only 10 mins walk from the hotel. The beach is clean and safe for kids. Would definately go back to Bulgaria it is clean, people friendly and so cheap.

Anyone going to Bulgaria for the first time, MUST go the Hotel Ralitsa in Albena.

The hotel and grounds are spotless, and EVERY member of staff is friendly and helpful.......Our Rep Maya couldn't be more helpful or friendly. The room was clean and cheerful......... The maid cleaned it every day and changed the towels often...... The bedding was changed every week....... There wasn't a piece of paper or litter of any kind, either in the hotel or the grounds.. The food is varied, and there is something at every meal time to cater for every taste.......As well as pool bars offering snacks most of the day.The bars were open from 11.ooam till 11.oopm serving a variety of local drinks...Imported drinks were available at a small price. There are 2 pools outdoors and 1 indoors..........

The Animation team are first class entertainers and very professional....We never went out of the resort at night, as there was no need with them doing a show 5 nights a week and bingo once a week......Every show was different, and really good, but the Abba show was the tops.We first went in May, then got home and booked again for September..... Before we went in September we booked again for May 2006 with 12 other memebers of our family.....
Congratulations to a wonderful Hotel and staff., and of course the Animation team....
Thank you,
Pat Bolton and Malcolm Wood.

We decided to stay at the hotel Ralista after reading its great reviews. But be warned the food is awful and while we were there over 70% of the guests were suffering from food poisoning including us!!!

We brought this to the attention of the hotel and reps but they seemed unconcerned. Their answer.... it happens all the time!!!

Hotle Ralista is passable and Albena is a nice village but you are limited for good bars and restaurants.

We took some trips to Sunny Beach in the evenings much nicer resort and great nightlife.

Bulgaria has a lot to offer but I would stay clear of Albena and chose a bigger more tourist forcused resort.
