"WOW, IT REALLY IS AS BAD AS PEOPLE SAY!!"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Honestly upon writing this i am not usually 1 to complain but i just have to let people know NOT to stay at this resort! You will walk into the hotel resort and think WOW what can people have to complain about....that is until u go for something to eat (thats if u are lucky enough to find anything left!!) Plates are chipped and dirty, cutlery is clinging! try and remember to take your own. Hotel staff are strange...1 minute they will smile and try and help next they look at u like something u would step on in the street. In general tho the Bulgarian people are very very rude...i even had there own currency rejected in a bar in Sunny Beach cos the note had a slight tear (it was literally thrown back in my face..couldnt believe it!!!). Partner fell ill on 3rd day, then our friends went down with something, i thought i was going to escape only to fall ill with 3 days to go. On speaking to other guests there was not 1 from every party that hadnt been ill...and yes first choice will say nothing is wrong..nobody else has reported anything and it is just a viral infection that is being passed around the hotel.. it is unbelievable!. Booked this holiday in good faith... 4 star with good entertainment for the kids, let me tell u the entertainment is terrible! the same mini disco every night for the kids where they will spend 15 of the 30 mins sitting on there backsides cos they have been eliminated from 1 o the stupid games that they think the kids will enjoy! then its Bingo time!! yes Bingo every night at 9.30 and thats usually about it! Would definitley not go back or recommend Bulgaria to friends..not just this resort but the whole god forsaken country! The rudest most arrogant people i have ever met in my whole life!!!! Cant believe im saying this but ITS SO SO GOOD TO BE HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Decline in standards"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Read mixed reviews before we went (Sept 08) but went with an open mind. The Hotel itself is a lovely place and the location is excellent right on a beautiful beach. We went all inclusive for a week and the food was in the main the same during the midday or evening meals, the food is not geared for children at all unless you expect them to live on chips. The crockery is often chipped including the plates and cups and there is never any salt or pepper available. The people generally were not friendly, there are the odd one or two but in the main they appear expressionless. Some were downright rude and as an emerging tourist Country you just cannot afford to be. We are not overly expectant people but are always polite and expect the same courtesy. The local resort (Elenite)had jet ski's 55 Levs (approx 22 pounds) for 10 mins also a 10 min taxi ride for 5 was 25 Levs (12 pounds) which I think for an emerging holiday spot is expensive. The resort itself (Holiday Village) should have more to offer eg Shops offering gifts etc. To sum up.... We will not be returning which saddens me as I had wanted to visit for many years and thought that a 4 star rated Hotel would have had more to offer. We visited Sunny Beach and would compare it to Blackpool or Benidorm. Certainly they have a long way to go to rival Spain or Greece. We spoke to an elderly Man who informed us this was the third year running he had visited however it would be his last as to quote his words the Hotel service had gone down and the staff were downright rude.

"First and Last Choice"
Overall Hotel Rating:
After being given assurances from First Choice that the reports in the newspaper and on GMTV were incorrect and that the hotel surpassed all their checks I can only say they must have walked round with their eyes closed or pre-warned the hotel that they were visiting. The hotel reception, pool and beach area are lovely. The rooms were very basic but thats ok excepting the pull out bed meant the children (2 aged 8) might as well have slept on the floor as the matresses were non existent. They shared our beds after the first night! Some of the bedding and towels had seen better days and were stained. The maids were ignorant and did not even respond to a smile. The restaurant (for want of a better word) was the most appalling I have ever come across. The first thing to do was find a table, clear away the dirty dishes and wash the table.Leave one member of your party sat at the table so that nobody could claim it and then try and find bowls, knives, forks and spoons to use.Sometimes there were plastic knives and forks (this is a 4* hotel remember). Cups for tea/coffee for breakfast were a luxury and one without a chip was a real find. You were lucky if the water for the tea/coffee was hot. The food was inedible in our opinion - and yes we did try to eat it - the fruit and salad however was a godsend, but who wants to eat salad for 2 weeks. We did not meet anybody who thought the food was good. All 4 of us suffered with sickness and diarhorrea but as we did not attend the on site doctor First Choice would not accept it was the hotel.A virus in Sunny Beach was the cause - even for those who did not go into Sunny Beach! The reps were not interested in any of the problems, they had standard replies for all complaints. I could go on with specifics but this is a general opinion. I would never recommend this hotel and never visit Bulgaria again.

"OUR LONG AWAITED HOLIDAY"
Overall Hotel Rating:
we were worried about going to the Royal Park after reading so many bad reviews. On arriving 05.30 AM found we had a large and lovely room overlooking the pool and sea, which is what we had asked for. Bit of a shortage of hangers in the wardrobe but otherwise first class! First sighting of the dining room later that morning was a bit of a shock. Bare tables, would normally get tableclothes in 4 star and such awful food. We lived on bread salad and chicken nuggets and chips if there was any left. Deserts lovely though!Chipped plates dishes and mugs was bad, and sometimes no crockery or cutlery at all. At times even had plastic cups. On our last day a chef was sweeping the food area with a dust pan and brush, hope he didn't use the same one on the floor. Our final day we had to be out by mid day , which seemed a bit off being we got there so late, making a 13 night stay instead of 14. Didn't leave for airport until 01.30 am. Trips with first choice may have been dear but they were great. Went to Kains tent and the Off road adventure, which was such good fun. Not suitable for wee ones as a bit on the bumpy side. All in all we had a great holiday but the food was very bad, not up to 4 stars.

"Go and Enjoy"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We are a family of four - Mum, Dad & two boys aged 11 and 8. Having read the reviews and heard the horror stories in press and t.v. we were apprehensive to say the least, but thought "Hey-ho we will give it a go". On arrival we were exhausted, but pleasantly surprised. We were allocated room number 666 and were terrified this was an omen of things to come - the bell boy even smirked as he turned the key in the door! Sun-beds were a nightmare to obtain - but what hotel isn't in August? Food was everything you expect from a standard All Inclusive, albeit maybe not up to the standard we have previously experienced, but sufficient choice and availability was on offer. Sozopol Restaurant highly recommended and the bbq makes for a change. Packos also worth a try - if you just forget you are eating in a wooden shack! Not to be sneezed at is the ice-cream - I managed to eat my body weight and then some - Mmmmmmm..... Overall, food adequate. It didn't alter the fact that plenty of peopled moaned and groaned, but isn't that what the British do best?!?!?! Animation Team amazing - where they get their energy from is anybody's guess. Every night they tirelessly put on a different show - all after a full day's work in blistering heat. The bay on which the hotel is situated is pretty and the sun glistening off the sea is enchanting. Only snag being quite isolated once leaving the complex - but again you frequently find this will A.I. Kids Clubs not so good. Not much imagination used - our two gave them a miss as didn't meet expectations. Good that waterpark on site, but beware, some slides dodgily assembled and could cause bruises. Nice change from beach and poolside though. Don't be conned out of your levs for sunbeds - wave pool a good place to crash for free! Avoid Sunny Beach like the plaque - it is a dump. Nessebar on the other hand very pretty (but beware of being conned by taxi drivers) nicer way of getting there would be on the boat which leaves from the pier 10.20 every morning. We never encountered the towel scan personally, but a family leaving on our flight did. Reception refused to give back passports until they coughed up for "stolen towels". Not sure what going on there - well known fact, but nobody seems able/interested in doing anything about it. Special mention to be made of Mario (Animation) & Konstantin (Bell Boy)who both managed to raise a smile no matter what. Go and decided for yourselves - we did and enjoyed ourselves throughly.

" Had Fantastic time"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Had a fantastic hol, party of 10 ages 3 to 50. Hotel clean, stsff polite, smiling, if you are rude to them they will be rude back, like anywhere in the world to get respect you must first give it. Food was different every day if you want english food then i suggest you go to Blackpool. Rooms were cleaned daily and clean towels daily, we never expierenced ay of the things that other people had wrote about. For all going in the near future ,go enjoy yourselfs, have fun in the water park but on some slides wear an old t.shirt ,they are safe and always plenty of life guards around to stop unrully people lol.

"worst holiday ever"
Overall Hotel Rating:
family of 5 including 3 teenagers aged 13,14,and 15. on arrival hotel seemed fab until reality hit. food was disgusting with our three living on gravy and chips for two weeks. hubby and myself were both really ill for 5 days and still have symptoms on returning home. rooms very basic with one wardrobe for us all.plug sockets hanging off walls so be careful if taking toddlers as wires are exposed behind sockets. considering it was all inclusive holiday we spent £1500 travelling to other resorts for something decent to eat. no snacks served after canteen closed except at pacos bar outside holtel. looked like awooden shack but food was cooked to order and staff friendly even reps ate there. staff at hotel especially lobby barmen were very rude except for waitress clearing tables who always had a genuine smile. reps were a waste of time as far as complaints were concerned insisting no other complaints had been made. RUBBISH. never again and even kids couldnt wait to go home to go back to school

"ROYAL Park 28/07/08 - 11/08/08"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned this morning 12/08/08. After writing an earlier report about how worried I was, I needn't of as the hotel was clean, fantastic large room with 2 balconies for 5 of us on 1st floor (room 106) overlooking the sea.Place is very safe for the kids didn't see 2 of my children much Connor (11)and Rhys 'Doyle'(8)who had a brilliant time with all the friends they made.A special hello to the Scottish girls and Arron,Jay,Ben& Tom.The complex only has 4 hotels, and can only get through to them via gates and the wrist bands that you where.Make sure you don't lose your bandsas they will charge you 30levs.You can use the facilites at the Elinite Village. Ice cream all day there, but only at meal times at Royal Park. You can also get toasted sandwiches at the elinite, although queing for food and drink is a bit of a nightmare, especially when getting Pizza/kebabs or drinks in the reception, although if it's realy busy there, we just asked a waitress and she got us some drinks,we just gave her a couple of levs. The food in the restaurant is very basic, so we are glad to get home for some desent food. Best to go at 6.30 as you get choice of lovely puddings, unfortunatley I put on weight. I wouldn't say people got food poisoning, if that was the case everyone would be ill, it was only a few who were unwell, more likely due to the heat, being in it 6 hrs a day, too much drink, especially the fizzy drinks. My youngest 2 were not ill at all. Husband and myself not well on 2 seperate occasions, but one dose of immodian sorted that out, but this happens what ever country we go to. Pool very cold, but sea lovely and warm. Trips very expensive with 1st Choice so didn't do any. Got a bus to Sunny Beach for shopping (3 Levs) wouldn't want to stay there and to Nessebur (4Levs), this place was lovely, well worth the visit. the boat trip to there cost 25 levs each, which is quite dear, that's why we went by bus one afternoon.Kids loved the waterpark, not brilliant but fine for what they wanted and it's free.Didn't use the entertainment as our kids make there own. The best entertainment would be the ones you had to pay for.People we spoke to said that it was good, but I wasn't going to pay.It was for use for all hotels, not just Royal Park. We were fine with towels in our room, although I did count them everyday, our maid was really nice.We did here about one person who had problems with missing towels though. They really need more staff there.

"Not all bad"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This was the second year we went back to this hotel and whilst I admit that it had gone downhill slightly in one year that was only as the hotel looked like it needed a lick of new paint here and there. On the whole the hotel is very clean and the room we had was huge and very clean. Whilst the food is not fabulous it was certainly edible and as for all those people who say there was nothing for their children I blame them for raising such fussy children as my sone quite happily had salad for lunch and a main meal in the evening - the reason chips are served at everymeal is because everywhere you look that is all the english seemed to eat (assuming you didn't count the mountains of food they all left on their plates!). The staff are not the friendliest I must admit but I never came across anyone who was rude to me, no different to the way I am treated in London. The kids clubs were good for my son who is 6 and the evening entertainment left a little to be desired but then again if families thought about entertaining themselves and spending time as a family some nights they few nights you saw the disco it wouldn't seem as bad. The water park (which no one seems to talk about) is great we spent most days here as it was great for the little ones (although quite cold and the loos could do with a good clean). We probably wouldn't go back to Bulgaria but only as we have been twice now and I would like to try some other countries but if you are a stuck up snob who expects michelin starred food then I suggest you don't go here, but if you are normal family who just want to relax and enjoy the sunshine and time as a family then you may well enjoy it.
