We have also booked up and paid to go to The Royal Park and we are due to go in 6 weeks. We have been trying to change our hotel for the last week with no joy what so ever but finally today after seeing all the reviews and newspapers and it was also on GMTV and the sky news website we have managed to change to the holiday village in Turkey(which we have been to before and is fantastic). At last first choice are co operating and are prepared to change holiday destinations at no extra cost. They are now recognising that there is a problem and they can change your booking so they cant fob you off.

I have just returned from Elenite Holiday Village part of the Victoria Group who also own the Royal Park. We stayed there for 2 weeks and walked past the hotel every day and there were always plenty of people enjoying the pool and the sushine and also on the beach, they did not appear to be unwell. we also spoke to some people in the animation hall (which is used by the village and both hotels) and they did not appear to be unwell and were having a great time. I think the holdiay is what you make it, we all know we need to be careful what you eat and drink abroad so to all going just take care and there are places to eat during the day with the hotdogs, pizzas, kebabs and toasted sandwiches (all of which I tried and had no problem) THe village is a lovely place, very clean and tidy and the staff are fantastic.

We are due to go to this hotel in august. After reading an artice in the sun newspaper i was quite alarmed about what i had read. It said people are suffering with salmonella, food poisining, staff were caught having sex in a guests room, erotic pictures were been taken on the beach and there were strip shows in the bar.....!!!!

I rang first choice and was told they were aware of the above problems and it was business as usual... They have logged down that i have called them with my concearns.

We can change our holiday if we wish to but it will cost us another £50.00 per person and ther are 7 of us going thats £350.00 extra. Not only that we have to go on the same date and can't go for anything less than what we have paid to go there. We are stuck with it how can we get anywhere else now in the middle of July for 7 people.

I would like to hear from anyone else who is going on the 8th of august to give me their views.

We really don't know what to expect.!!!!!

the food is very very poor, after 3 days of eating there the smell of the resturant makes you feel sick. the drinks are like drinking water so we had to pay for the goog stuff. the prices on is resort are a joke as we paid 10 pounds each for a childs lilo and bucket and spade.the bar and resturant staff are rude. there is nothing out side this resort to do.its 25 levs each way to travel to sunny beech which is very busy or the same price to take the boat over to nessabar.to go on the yet ski costs 55 levs for about 5 mins which was a rip off.we spent over a thousand pounds there on dont know what,so be prepered to spend lots of cash.overall the kids loved it as they spent most of the time in the water.be prepared for power cuts as we had 2 within 10days and the recieption ran out of candles so we all had to stay in our rooms as the whole resort was in darkness.your holiday is what you make it and we all had a ok holiday but would not go back.

we are going to hotel royal park on 28th july 2008, there is 2 adults&2 kids in our party.we too are concerned and have spoke to first choice regarding the article in the sun, we are are not allowed to change our holiday due to there cancellation policy so we have no choice but to go or lose 90% of our holiday cost.we told first choice if we have any problems on holiday we will sue them when we get home.we have been told that this is probably the best time to go as the hotel is getting monitored constantly so lets hope this is the case. when i come home i will write a new review to allow any one else going after us to know exactly what hotel royal park is like good or bad.

On arrival I thought we had come up trumps. The hotel looked wonderful, large reception and bar area - that was to support the large queues you had to endure if you wanted a drink whether alcoholic or otherwise. The restaurant continually ran out of crockery and cutlery, the mojority of the cups - if you could get one were dirty, cracked or both (even the merry xmas one my wife had).Bowls were cracked -you could watch your milk seep on to the table cloth. Meals usually consited of long or round meatballs, usually cold. I did speak to the rep about the cups etc. He replied " well they are catering for 1500 people" - Answer "obviously not if people have to wait for crockery and food continuosly". Not interested !!!!! Snacks had to be queued for in the seering heat for usually 20-30 minuites at a time.No time to argue with your family as you saw little of them standing in the queues day and night. Mostly the staff were miserable bordering on ignorant, the staff at the reception bar would frequently stop serving tea&coffee in the evening because they couldn't be bothered. If you were Bulgarian however you had rite of passage to the front of any queue. It is a shame because the hotel,it's grounds and the water park are very good and it is very clean,it just appears the hotel is looked after by fools. (couldn't use the word managed as it's not) Only one person deserved praise and that was the very elderly lady who cleaned the ground floor toilets everyday watching people in wet swimming costumes tread all over he spotless floor but she never failed to give you a smile. Good on you girl. Change the restaurant and bar management and I would go back tomorrow.

we are a family of four(2 kids aged 10&13) just returned back from hotel royal park and had a great time but the food isnt great and only just warm but there is plenty choice and we had no problems with sickness. the hotel is worth seeing as it is beautiful but the staff not so nice.there are queues of people complaining to the reps but we felt it was uneccesary.a holiday is what you make of it yourself. entertainment rubbish so take a pack of cards with you as you will need them.wasps are a nightmare but they arent aggressive like britain.sunny beach is not that cheap we were £23 for a burger&chips and a drink each in a pub. overall we did enjoy our holiday but would not go back to this hotel or bulgaria.

we have just returned from the royal park and i can admit that we all had some loose moments but you have to understand that difrent countries cook food in difrent ways. in bulgaria most food is boiled so it may still look pink inside as for being ill people were coming to the hotel with sickness and direaha from uk and other countries and passing it on to others.I think if people looked after their children so they didnt handle and taste food then put it back mayb e bugs wouldnt spread so quickly.we spoke to staff tried to comunicate as equals instead of talking down to them and it goes along way.we went out with open minds not expecting ritz treatment and we had a good time. my 10 year old son loved it there even after he had a serious toe infection stoped him doing anything for the second week .the medical centres do try very hard to look after you should you need them.now for the bad bits ,quing for food does your head in check what you eat if your not used to it dont eat it. sunbeds ,put towels out at 0630 and you should get one.we had a few power cuts but that helps you to make new friends with people with candles.use the stairs ,quicker than lifts and good exercise, entertianment repetertive but reps try hard and are good fun. most of us chose this destination because it was cheap sometimes you get what you pay for but you can make a good holiday if you try ,BULGARIA is a developing country.weleft a couple of lev tip every other day for the cleaners and we had clean towels every day and sheets twice a week make your own minds up and dont belive all the horror stories dont expect too much and you wont be dissapointed.

We went here 3 years ago and really enjoyed it so couldn't wait to go back. It's changed so much though - during our stay first choice downgraded it from 4 star to 3 star! The beach and pool were so badly infested with wasps we had to go to the waterpark and pay 5 lev each for loungers - both my daughter and i were stung. The buffet restaurant was a joke - queueing for half an hour for luke warm or raw food and table cloths not changed during sittings so if you didn't get there first you had to use a soiled table cloth. We tried to book the a la carte (which was only open 10pm till midnight!) but the stupid bulgarian waiter would only book us for the bbq restaurant. Had to leave there during the meal as it's outside and the wasps invaded us again.

The lobby bar you always had to queue for at least 15 minutes even when there were 3 behind the bar and waitresses! These waitresses only liked collecting glasses and didnt do table service unless you stopped them and asked!

Our room was disgusting with the maid not cleaning our bath for 2 weeks! Our 13 year old son is average height but couldnt fit into the bunks in the kids den. The wardrobes were falling apart. We hired a play station but they had no games or dvds to go with them and only one controller.

The entertainments team were terrible, the only one to make any effort seemed to be Jamie - in all fairness they were in such a cramped space i dont think they could have been any better.

On the upside the kids club was great - at least ours seemed to enjoy it which was all that counted.

It's such a shame this hotel has changed so much as it was once very good which is why we went back. If you can, change your holiday now! On the last day there were queues of people waiting to complain to the reps so they could then continue their complaint when they returned home - us included!

Due to stay here in August. We saw gmtv and contacted first choice immediately. I have now spent without exaggeration approx 12 hours on the phone with them since Friday. Like many people i was appauled at the thought of taking my children to this hotel. However as a family of 5 first choice have not been able to find me an alternative holiday anywhere. There are places available as long as i am happy to seperate my family, down grade, and fly from an airport 150 miles away, which isnt what i booked for. They have offered a free transfer and 200 pound discount if the holiday is more expensive. If the response i have had from first choice is any indication of what lies ahead i am seriously worried. I have contacted Irwin mitchell solicitors aswell who gave great advice and were really helpful. However there hands are tied as i do not have a case unless the holiday proves to be as bad as everyone as said.I must admitt it would give me the utter most pleasure to sue first choice just on principle however this would not justify taking my children to a place where you have to secure your belongings, avoid the strip shows and starve for 2 weeks. If anyone has any idea what i do next i would really appreciate your advice.

I have just returned from a week at the Royal Park. Prior to travelling i read the reviews on this website and was reassured by them that this holiday was going to be ok. I have had experience of bad reveiws and then got there and had a great time. I can only give you my experience. All I can say is that now the hotel is getting into full season the standards are slipping. I agree that the hotel wasn't the most expensive in the world but why does that mean you shouldn't enjoy it all the same? I also understand that they are an up and coming resort who aren't as experienced as others. However the Royal Park has been there for 11 years so you would think they had some practice by now I am not soemone who ever cmplains my view is normally that for a week just live with it. I ma writing this review as I am genuinely concerned for travellers going to this resort with children. There is an outbreak right now of illness nad I have experienced it first hand. My 7 year old step son collapsed nad was on a drip and was suffering from excruciating pains (he wss screaming out) in his stomach and violent diarorreah. Unless you have watched a child collaspe you cannot be so flippant with your comments. The medical centre onsite was full of children with the same problems. It was awful to watch. Whilst waiting for my plane I started to develop the same symptoms and have since been bedridden since my return. My GP is testing for salmonella. The hotel are saying its a viral infection - maybe it is but I feel its important to let people know about it before they go. First Choice know about this outbreak. Be prepared if its too late to change your holiday to complain. If you've paid extra for a kids den they don't exist. Just a bunk bed. No playstation etc. Stay away from the chicken and the eggs, and if you can eat out its better. There is a bar just out of the front of the hotel over the dirt road to the left called pacos that is better and not oerly priced. If travelling with small children go to sunny beach early on as the later in the night the more dancing on bars etc goes on. Most edible food is can't believe it - McDonalds ( which i Hate). No set prices though so take more money that you would normally. It was over £20 for a happy meal big mac and double cheeseburger. But it depends who serves you it will be dofferent each time. Steer clear of food aimed at British ie chinese etc. Its not good and quite expensive. Try and change for now if possible.

My family and I were here for 2 weeks and had a great time.clean rooms, towels changed everyday and no problems with the towel scam supposedly going on.Food was quite bland but did not go hungry nor did any of us have upset stomachs. The kids entertainers were excellent however the first choice reps were as much use as a chocolate teapot! We had a problem with our shower and someone was there within 20 minutes to fix it.Drinks were available whenever we wanted them (no-one watching how much we were drinking) and there was always plenty of snacks in the afternoon (hot dogs and pizza, stay off the kebabs though).

my family and friends are just back from this 4* hotel thats a joke, with a severe dose of food poisoning, it started on our 2nd day and ruined our entire week. we couldn't stray to far from the toilet. our rooms were clean and the maids first class (as long as you tip them every day). but the food is ok as long as you dont eat it. what a waste of £1000. first choice will now be my last choice. The resort is spotless, but when your all inclusive you dont expect to pay for your entertainment.
