"perfect holiday"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Hotel was very good. Always clean bedding and towels. Food was very bland and made for the German taste. Hotel is good for families and very close to the beach.

"Hotel Luna review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I have just returned from my sixth holiday in Golden Sands.
The Hotel Luna is a lovely hotel. The food was repetative but it is expensive to eat in restaurants in the the resort. The maid service was wonderful - clean towels daily and regular changing of bed linen. There is a 1-lev charge for hire of the mattress for the sunbeds by the pool.
The resort of Golden Sands has not changed much over the past 5 years - still wonderful bars and the people are really friendly.
La Bomba (close to Astoria Beach Hotel) has great staff and entertainment. I would recommend anybody to eat here.
All in all, another wonderful holiday in Bulgaria. I look forward to seeing it all again in 2008.

"Hotel Luna review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
third year to Bulgaria but first to Golden Sands.
the resort is v pleasent especially around the Admiral hotel pick a hotel beach front or face a walk up some very steep hills. We stopped at the Hotel Luna the staff where really friendly the hotel is reached by climbimg 78 steps from the beach or up a slope to the front of the hotel. We would have only one fault to pick up on for this hotel and that is the food though perfectly edible but aimed at the German pallet and very repetitve.
We recommend highly the Evergreen restuarant in front of the Kaliakra place hotel try a steak cooked at your table excellent, also try Sinbads, Gibralters and mama mias all very good.We where dissapointed with Balkan Holidays and will not use them again if you do ask them is your flight direct as ours was changed to include a 1 hour stop at Manchester we flew from Newcastle.
would recommed a trip to Balchik botanical gardens.
We thought the price for the sun beds/parasols on the beach a little steep
2 beds 1 parasol 22lev per day,
We used the lido in front of the hotel Luna which belongs to the hotel mokoso very clean and safe

"Hotel Luna review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We booked this hotel based on previous reviews on this web site and were not disappointed. The hotel was absolutely excellent. The rooms were an excellent size, plenty of storage space and very clean. The maids came in every day and made the beds, cleaned and changed towels. They even left a rose on the first morning, and we even found towels laid out on the bed in the shape of a swan one morning!
The buffet food was excellent. A large variety on the salad buffet and a wide choice for the main course, chicken being cooked freshly on the grill by the chef. The food was hot and well presented and although people from other hotels did not find their food too good, we were very impressed.
The buffet breakfast was just as good. A wide range of salad, cheese and cold meat; cereals, different cooked eggs and sausages (fried eggs and pancakes cooked fresh by the chef), Bulgarian specialities, and bread, toast, danish pastries, croissants and cake.
We visited the beginning of June and the hotel and resort was quiet (best time to go). You could always get a bed round the pool and the beach was half empty. You have to pay for sun beds on the beach (25 leva a day).
The centre of the resort reminded us a little bit of Blackpool but as you moved away from the centre it became quieter and as our hotel was towards the end of the resort, close to a small harbour and little amphitheatre it was really pleasant and suited us well as we do not like a lot of noise and brash atmosphere.
There was no entertainment in the hotel, which again suited us well as we prefer to wander around the resport in the evening and sit and have a drink at a quiet bar.
The prices in Bulgaria were extremely cheap. We used the water from the mini bar rather than bother going to the supermarket for water as it was as cheap.
A bottle of chardonay in the hotel cost 12 leva (About £3.50) and a pint of beer was 74p.
One thing to beware of if you book with Balkan holidays is the airline used. Bulgaria airways does not compare with any English airline we have used before. The seats were squashed together with very little leg room and some of the men on the flight who were tall could hardly get into their seats. We were served a meal and a glass of water and that was it!
Having said that, the Bulgarian rep in the resort was excellent.
We went on 2 day trips which were very good value for money. The first was to Nessebar. It cost us £13 for adults and £8 for Hannah who is 8. A taxi there cost twice as much. Nessebar is a lovely village with lots of shops and pretty houses and churches.
We also went on a trip to the Danube. This included a visit to a Bulgarian house, a horse and cart ride through the fields and lunch with a bulgarian folk show, all excellent. The most disappointing part was the boat ride on the Danube as there was very little to see.
This was our first visit to Bulgaria and we will definitely go again and to the same hotel.

"Hotel Luna review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We had been to Sunny Beach 3 years ago and decided to try Golden Sands this time. We went 4 star this time and it was well worth going up the star.
Air conditioning in the room made all the difference. The hotel itself was lovely, spotlessly clean and rooms themselves reminded me of a holiday inn with toiletries etc. The rooms were carpeted which I liked better than the usual marble. We used the Safety deposit box in the hotel and this was 100% safe. The staff in the hotel were lovely and we were never disturbed at night with noise. We went half board and there was lots of choice and pancakes were made fresh to order at breakfast. Lots of fresh fruit hot choices and even the tea was fine. Although half board we only ate in about 5 times but this was only because part of our holiday is going out for meals at different restaurants. The times we did eat in the restaurant in the evening we thought the food was more than passable, nice and hot and plenty of choice of all 3 courses. The hotel has both indoor and outdoor pools and we used both frequently ( You cant use inflatables which you just accepted and there were plenty of pools in the resort that you could go to that let you so this was not a problem. You do have to be up early in the morning to book the beds but that did not bother me as I set the alarm . It was a case if you cant beat them join them. We did however ensure that we were out at the pool by about 9 45 am as some people did not appear till sometimes lunch time and we thought this was totally unfair. ( I would certainly have moved towels off beds if I had had to endure this). The beach is down the steps and across the road and was really nice as well.
The resort itself has more than enough restaurants to choose from and we would recommend the mexican, Mama Mias steak house and we also really like the Fishermans Village at the far end of the quiet end of the resort..Lovely food and traditional Bulgarian entertainment and it cost no more than the price of your meal. The little train will take you right there.
We did a few excursions our favourite being the Jeep Safari and Yacht trip. We laughed so much that day and you are away from about 9.30 am till about 7pm and so much is crammed into your day.( Well worth the money). Also did the quad biking and then did the parasailing at the beach which was a brilliant and calm experience.
Lots of little shops and stalls where you can kit yourself out with all the designer gear, It may not be genuine but it is absolutely fine. My daughter has come back with an extensive new wardrobe for a fraction of the cost of the real stuff. The silver is also very good value.
There are the people giving out leaflets all the time but they were not forceful and it is their job. As for the ladies of the night we kept pushing my hubby up front to see if he got approached but there was never any problems much to my daughters and my disappointment as we were hoping for a laugh!!
Altogether we had a great holiday and with all the walking we did feel much fitter. Our only complaint was that we were meant to fly to Varna and have only a 15min transfer to the resort but about a month before we were due to fly Balkan changed the airport to Bourgas which meant over 2and a half hour transfer time. Also on way back we were in the air for nearly two hours when they announced we were about to land back in Bourgas Airport with a technical fault and then we had another 5 hours to sit about in the airport with nothing to do as we had all our hand luggage taken off us because of the problems back home. Still I did get a wee bit more sun.
Anyway I would recommend Golden Sands for a good value sun/ Beach holiday.

"Hotel Luna review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We are two old friends who principally wanted a holiday with sunshine, swimming, shopping but, very importantly, we wanted a range of Spa treatments. Bulgaria seemed to offer all that at a reasonable cost and Golden Sands offered the quieter alternative to Sunny Beach.
I booked everything on line via Balkan Holiday website, including 2 spa packages since they were said to be cheaper that way. We planned to book a few more things like facials and pedicures once we got there.
Hotel Luna was fine, very clean, public areas spotless, staff seemed reasonable, hotel room big enough for two but bathroom very small. Food was fine, we were on half board and hardly ate out at all.
Our biggest problem was with the spa packages. I had assumed that everything we had booked on line would be at the same hotel- there was nothing to indicate otherwise. When we got there, we discovered that our main prepaid and prebooked package was to take place at the Helios Hotel,a long hot and uphill walk from where we were staying. It took some doing but we insisted that Balkan paid for taxis to and from, and eventually they coughed up.
The actual spa treatments were all lovely and made the holiday very relaxing for us- I would have been bored stiff by just sunbathing every day.Shopping was excellent, shoes and sandals particularly nice and cheap. Everything else seemed to be fakes, namebrand perfumes at 10LV (£3!)and ";Levis"; at £15 but great fun.
Enjoyed the holiday but of those we spoke to it seemed we were the only ones doing spa stuff, which we got for about 1/3 of the price it would be in the UK. We had facials, massages, body wraps, reflexology, pedicures, manicures, you name, it, girl heaven!I would go back for something similar, but maybe more off season for me.

"Hotel Luna review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Hotel Luna was terrific.
Great food with plenty variety.Staff were very helpful and pleasant. The hotel is at the north end of the resort and has 60 steps to the sea front .Thiis end is Quieter than the other but it only takes 20 or 30 minutes to walk slowly the full length of the resort or take the Noddy train for 35p .Drinks cigs etc are only 1or 2 lev (35p) But keep some small change for the loos (50 stinkies).
A visit to Varna is worthwhile .on the main road the bus costs 50p or a taxi(not hotel taxis) costs £3.50 and they offer to come back for you .In Varna the rip off money changers are queuing up DO NOT USE THEM. The gipsy market is opposite the Cathedral and the will cut each others throats to sell you a pair of ";ggenuine origginal"; brand name trainers for £5 The whole of Bulgaria seems to be a paradise for fake labels.
I would go back anytime even with the daily battle for sunbeds which starts at Midnight. the Luna manager has put up a notice in 3 languages but apparently nobody can read them.
