"Full of school parties:poor choice"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We found the hotel catered for large school parties some of whom were in the room next to us which made it noisy. The room itself was very pleasant but the air conditioning was very inefficient. The cleaning left a lot to be desired. The lift was slow and tempermental and often we had to walk up 5 floors to our room. The food and dining room was very poor. Buffet meals for breakfast and dinner. The food tasted a little better than it lokked but if you did not arrive early sometimes the choice was very limited. There were nearly always long queues and the school parties seemed to push in making it very uncomfortable. You had to pay for sunbeds around the swimming which in the afternoons becamevery crowded. The Perla Hotel was located in the end of the town where the discos and bars were situated and wherever you walk you were pestered to go into various establishmeents. Also ladies of the night frequented this part of the resort of Golden Sands. Overall not a succesful holiday. Stay away.

"Steer clear of this hotel"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We would suggest this hotel is one steer clear of. The big positive was the room which was a good size, comfortable with air conditioning. all other points were negatives. it was situated at the wrong end of town(Young and lively) at the back of the resort and a long uphill walk back from the beach. The hotel was full of large school parties who took over the swimming poor where you had to pay for sun beds. The food was appalling and the evening entertainment was rubbish

"Poor location and noisy"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The Perla Hotel is located up a hill at the back of the resort and is a 20 minute uphill walk back from the beach. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom especially the shower was excellent. The staff were helpful but some of their command of English was poor so communication could be difficult. You had to pay the equivalent of £11 for two sunbeds around the swimming pool even if you were guests at the hotel. We thought this was unreasonable and ridiculous. we had no way on knowing when booking that this hotel caters for school parties and is the base for a the German equivalent holiday company for the 18/30. So the hotel could be rowdy. The poor was basic and poor and if you got in half way through the sitting then some dishes were not replenished. Overall it was poor and we could not recommend it.

"Hotel Perla review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Perla Hotel, very clean and situated well. Just a very short walk from the noise but far enough away to have a good quite nights sleep. Reception staff excellent. I don't think there was much entertainment as it always seemed so quite. Very pretty surroundings with the trees. We went B&B and the breakfast was ok but very monotonous but we didn't go hungry.
Resort very good if you just want cheap drinks/food and a good beach but we found there wasn't anything of interest much to visit, even when we hired a car. Hire of beds and umbrella on beach about £10 per couple per day. Beds around pool £4 per day per couple.
Never had a bad meal in any restaurant. Don't be suprised if your starter and main come at the same time and food is warm rather than hot. That's the way they do it. The Old House is worth a visit for their gipsy band. Best crazy golf right at the north end of the prom passed Fishermans, and best 10 pin bowling Palm Beach Hotel also on the prom, better than the one near Bonkers.
There are prositutes but we only ever saw them outside Bonkers and they're no bother to couples and families. We were a bit suspect of two others we saw in restaurants but they were very discreet.
Bulgarian night out quite good, about the right price. £18. Dissappointed with Nessebar, a few old churches but mostly shops and very crowded, a long way to go from Golden Sands when the shops are the same. Tried Varna on a trip only saw the cathedral and again shops. Tried to visit again in the hire car, nightmare trying to find anywhere to park, so we gave up.
Careful hiring a car, we had an arguement re petrol and cleaning and were charged an extra 30lev, even our receptionist took our side.
Glad we've tried Bulgaria but the Black Sea resorts are not interesting enough for us.

"Hotel Perla review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
the hotel perla is a great hotel with good food(if you like eggs) a great swimming pool and plenty of lovely people the hotel itself is spotlessly clean the beds get changed every day,the bar is open all night and the one good thing i liked was any noise from outside once you closed the balcony door was shut out and you have peace and quiet. There is always someone to help if you get stuck with info. The resort is great the girls ply there trade at night and they are nice and they don't bother you at all.Watch for men trying to change money on the street just say no thanks.
One drawback is having to pay for a sun lounger and a mattress on the beach front.Places to eat we had meals in the two indian restaurants and it came to about£4.00 each and thats with beer.A 1.5 ltr of white wine is £1.04p a bottle of champers is about £0.94p all in all it was a good holiday and i would go back tomorrow, the only thing you have to remember is it is a poor country so don't expect too much out side the complex

Overall Hotel Rating:
What a week. Pity about the weather. The Perla is a brilliant hotel. Staff are really friendly, lovely pool. dont eat in the restaurant though. Made some great friends. Great spot to eat is the wee Sothci down the street. Great choice and very reasonable. 12 of us, dinner and drinks 180 lev. couldnt believe it. Bulgarian people are loveley. Really enjoyed stiing outside the Chinese wathcing the Ladies of the night ply their trade. Have read other reports about them pestering tourists, they are harmless.
All in all great holiday, great resort and hotel, couldnt recommend it enough. Very safe for the children and going back for a fortnight in july
