Bourgas Airport

We were expecting the worst , went straight through customs and had our bags in 15 minutes , superb .Going out was even quicker , we got off the coach , there were 2 people in front of us , went through in 5 minutes . The coffee shop prices were on a par with Stansted , a 330ml Zagorka was 7lv50

The Hotel You get what you pay for , we only use the hotel room to sleep in , but there were people there moaning about giant holes in the middle of their quilt covers (honest) , they were on to high a floor and the choice at breakfast was not up to sratch .We were on the 8th floor , had lovely views and the breakfast choice was the best i have had on my 5 holidays to Bulgaria . The pool area was excellent , loads of room and you could find somewhere to sit at midday .A beer at the poolside bar was 3lv as was a sprite , security boxes were 6lv a day .

Supermarket opposite hotel

A bottle of Preslav red wine was 5lv09 , a 1.5 litre bottle of Zagorka was 2lv83 and 1.5 Kamenitza was 1lv81

Overall , we had a pleasent stay , the cable tv was broken all 2 weeks we were there , but you don't go on holiday to watch tv .

The staff were good , except for the blonde bimbo who was more interested in doing her nails and talking on the phone than helping the customers The shower was a wet room which i find better , more room to move around but no bath .The rooms look like they were decorated by the Bellboys and like the other review says , you had to stand to see over the balcony .

I would not visit this hotel again , but it was ok . 6/10

The beach itself was dirty and the sea absolutely infested with Jelly Fish, the only way to cool down was to paddle ankle deep in the litter and seaweed, unless you wanted to be stung. A visit to the local bar at Nessebar was met with a very unwelcoming reception from the locals and bar staff, we didn’t manage to get the drinks we asked for and our friends were given plastic glasses, charged double and sent into the dark alleyway to drink their beers, much to the amusement of the bar owners. A Taxi trip into the old town will cost you 15 leve on the way and 80 leve on the way back, the mafia run Taxi drivers will take every opportunity to rip you off. Not that the old town has much to offer other than tat shops, beggars, touts and pick pockets. A visit to Beirut or Sunny Beach as it is known by the locals should be avoided, not worth the time or money, like Blackpool only much filthier and decrepit . All-in-all a right scum pitting, filthy, minging hovel of a country to be avoided at all cost. If you were intending to visit Bulgaria then please think twice, if you have already booked then cancel immediately.

Myself, along with 11 family and friends have just returned from a weeks holiday at Nessebar Bay Hotel, Upon our arrival we were told by a very stern receptionist that the hotel was full and despite having paid the supplement for single rooms to Thomas Cook months before, some would now need to share rooms. After much dispute we sorted the problem out, only to be told that we would have to move rooms again the following day as the sea view rooms had been booked by other guests, needless to say squatters rights came into play for the rest of the week! The hotel itself was very clean although the pool could do with some maintenance, broken tiles and drainage gratings were in abundance. The hotel catered for Germans and Bulgarians, of which we were outnumbered by 50-1. The daily menu left much to be desired, if you enjoy cabbage in batter or broccoli in cheese for breakfast you will be ok though. I thought the Germans were ignorant, but the Bulgarians beat them hands down, even the hotel staff were glum, ignorant, arrogant or rude, in some cases a combination of all four. The brochures claim the hotel to be a 4 star, more like a 2 star if they are lucky, running out of glasses at the bars was the norm, we spent the whole week drinking from plastic water cups. They even ran out of cups at breakfast, and we were constantly in search of clean cutlery.

My Husband, myself and 2 daughters have just returned from a week in the Nessebar Mare, Nessebar Resort. When we arrived we thought what a beautiful hotel and so it is. It's spotlessly clean and staff are very nice but thats it!!! The food is absolutely disgusting and is catered only for the germans. When I mentioned it to the rep she said it's typical local cuisine but it's not the locals that they are feeding they need to cater for everyone. My eldest daughter contracted salmonella from the scrambled eggs and was very very poorly for over a week. My youngest daughter got chlorine burns on her legs from the kids pool and the pool had to be drained and maintenance carried out. When we asked if there was a problem with the pool they said no it was just routine. Yeah right!!! The entertainment was so poor it was emabarrassing for a 4 and 5 star hotel complex it's very poor. The animation team done some dancing for half an hour and it was the same dances each evening only to different music and that was it. One of the entertainment staff asked my youngest daughter (12) if she wanted to go to the kids club to make pasta necklaces, I thought they could do better than that. My Husband described the hotel as the Hilton in the middle of Bosnia as the surrounding area is very poor. At the welcome meeting the rep told us not to go out after dark unless we booked a resort taxi to come for us and bring us back as it's not safe to flag down any taxi or walk the streets after dark. There is one small shop across the road, no supermarket or pubs along the road it's the hotel or nothing unless you go into Sunny Beach. The brochure was very misleading when we booked as it said Sunny Beach was a 2KM walk along a promenade from Nessebar which it is not, it's a 10 min taxi ride which costs 25 Leva thats about £12 each way!!! The locals are out to get you whether it's to rip you off by trying to sell you things or to steal your wallet off you and they won't take no for an answer, we didn't feel safe and felt very vulnerable. Well on the whole our experience of Bulgaria has put us off going abroad in the future. I read these reviews before we booked and voiced my concerns with the travel agent and they told me not to be daft that they have to meet certain criteria to get in the brochure well take it from me believe the reviews!!!

We stayed in Nessebur & I'm very glad we chose there as it has a bit of class & character, unlike Sunny Beach close by - also the latter presently seems to be being targeted by thieves & pickpockets on the streets at night & on the busy daytime buses. Nessebur didn't seem to have such a problem.

We had some good coach & boat trips out, but I don't think we will return.

This hotel looked quite nice in the Balkan Holidays brochure. The pool & surrounding area were lovely, the reception & dining areas were OK & the staff friendly & as helpful as they could be as some reception staff didn't have a very good grasp of English.

We paid for a " Superior" room upgrade (10s) This is what we got -

All old furniture painted black with chips all over & wallpaper / curtains left over from 70's

Beds with rock hard mattress & broken bases that creaked at the slightest movement, my husband ended up sleeping on the sofa

A large bootprint in the door where it had obviously been kicked in & metal to reinforce the surround.

The balcony "chairs" were in 2 parts & were like mini loungers only just inches off the ground ! Even if you had proper chairs you could not have seen the view over the balcony as there were large rusty metal plates on them, so you had to stand to look over.

The only decent part of the room was the bathroom, I gather they had all been done up recently, shame they forgot the rest !

One side of the lift had grafitti all over

This hotel was more like a hostel- this being borne out by the fact that as we were leaving to our upgrade hotel 2 coach loads of Russian Schoolchildren arrived ! Seems they were being billeted around the resort in similar "hotels".

We were told by others who had stayed in Bulgaria that you should NEVER go below 3/4* We don't think we'll be rushing back though.

We had 6 days in the hotel Bilyana Beach, this was 4* & worth every penny of the extra £195 we had to pay Balkan for our remaining stay.
