Hotel Preslav reviews (1-5 of 6)
I would agree with most of the other comments about this hotel, the location and the local resort. You should take the list of facilities with a pinch of salt - when we visited the 'shuttle' bus only ran once a day; not necessarily at the advertised time....
I would agree with most of the other comments about this hotel, the location and the local resort. You should take the list of facilities with a pinch of salt - when we visited the 'shuttle' bus only ran once a day; not necessarily at the advertised time. Likewise, the sauna etc. are unlikely to be working. You will need to be assertive in order to get much breakfast and so on. On the positive side, the hotel is small, clean and fairly quiet.
There is masses of construction going on all along the coast, including all around this hotel. It wasn't noisy, but it isn't pretty either. There is already no shortage of accomodation and in a year or two there will be hundreds of hotels and flats of this standard. It is already hard to see why Preslav features in so many holiday company brochures.
Lots of people remark on the unwelcoming metal gate that serves as an entrance to the hotel. This is for security - most new developments are walled and have doormen - there are checkpoints on the entry roads to the main resorts. That said, tourist areas feel safe enough. Varna is a different matter. You are unlikely to meet with violence, but I would advise working on the assumption you are going to get robbed, one way or another...
Bulgaria: think of Greece populated by Russians.

On arrival at the Preslav you will be greeted with a brick wall and two metal gates for the entrance. The hotel is absolutely rubbish, the food is disgusting and not worth getting up or going for! If you stayed at the Preslav for one week and ate only the food you were provided with you would starve to death! However, eating out is extremely cheap and so this was not a problem.
The pool is tiny and did not look very clean, I didn't see one person swim in it the whole week we were there, and generally it is not a nice place to be around. Every one staying at the Preslav was disappointed and could not wait to get home!
The rooms are clean though and very spacious although they are all set-up differently and we had a really nice bathroom in ours, though our other room had a tiny one! The only time I had a hot bath whilst there was on the day of arrival and one other night, because the water was constantly freezing. We complained to the reception who reasured us it would be hot again soon but it never did. The Preslav is in the middle of no-where and at the bottom of the road is the dual-carriage way. You will need to get the very un-reliable bus if you wish to go into Golden Sands or St Konstantine, but taxis are fast to arrive and extremely cheap so we regularly used them to go in and out of Golden Sands every day. (You have to in order to find places to eat and things to do)
Golden Sands is amazing though and better than any place we have been before, so cheap and although not many English it is great. The beaches are lovely and the nightlife is excellent if u like clubbing! Anyway, STAY AWAY FROM THE PRESLAV!!!!!! It is a dive and not a nice place to spend a holiday, the view from your balcony is guaranteed to be a dreary dirty pool and some building work if ur lucky!! At least thats a bit of action. I am not exagerrating either, this is the worst hotel ive seen, it should not even be called a hotel, it is like a hostel for the homeless!
Bulgaria is highly recommended though, its a great place to go for families, couples, the elderly, kids, anyone! We will be back there this year, going to try Sunny Beach instead though.

Hi,
We have just come back from weeks stay at the Hotel Preslav in Trakata, just outside St.Konstantin. My wife Jayne, Callum (4) and myself found the hotel to be just what we were looking for. all the staff make you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Yes the rooms are basic but this is a 3 star hotel, if you want 5 star pay for it ! When you go ";allocation on arrival"; you take your chances. The hotel is clean and the pool was a joy. The hotel is very secure and this allowed us not to worry so much about Callum, he had the run of the place!
When you arrive you are greated by big grey walls and a steel door, and this can put you off, but once inside you are made to feel at home.
Our stay was made all the better by the friends we made, there was a language problem but we soon learned to speak Scottish and Geordie!
In all we found Bulgaria and this hotel a pleasure to visit and we will visit again next year.
One word of caution, when you visit Varna, be carefull and watch your bags. I am six foot three and still was made to feel uncomfortable by the gypsies.
When using taxis make sure you ask ";how much?"; before you get in, it will stop you getting ripped off.
All in all a great place to stay, 3 star hotel with a 5 star welcome.

the hotel does look a bit off putting when you first arrive, but once you step inside what a welcome!we had booked a family room which was worth paying the extra for as it had a seperate bedroom and a bath as well as a shower over the bath(great with kids)the rooms were really clean and the maids would change the towels and bedlinen every couple of days.
the pool area was nice and clean with a kids pool too.views from the sky bar are great of a night and all the guests seem to meet here for a few drinks. the manager irena is very friendly and helpful and is really making the hotel come alive.the hotel runs a mini bus to take you to the main town and bring you back again, but it is quite cheap to get a taxi(about 8 leva).there are three nice restaurants within walking distant, turn right out of the hotel up the road to the bar on the corner and you will see the signs for margarita and soleroe, also hotel perla.
all are worth a visit.if you are looking for a nice quiet relaxing holiday this is the place.
We booked our holiday to Bulgaria, then found the reviews on this page. So we arrived at our hotel late at night to find ur entrance was big metal doors. Our first thought was OH GOD! once inside though everything was lovely.

Our room was kept clean the sheets and towels changed every few days. We were a bit outside teh resort but that was why we had chosen it. Transport was cheap and frequent (50 stotinki to St Konstantine, 1lev to Varna). The pool and patio were clean.
Hotel Preslav is in fact 4km from St Konstantine and 7km from Varna, it is by no means teh shack that was reported and the staff were friendly and helpful. In all we had a lovely holiday and I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for that quieter holiday. There are two beautiful restaurants in walking distance of the hotel, Solerio and Marguarite and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Bulgaria is a must do holiday beautiful and interesting.
I would just like to add to my earlier review, yes the hotel was up a steep hill and there were no footpaths but it is very common in Bulgaria not to have footpaths unless in a big town like Varna. The other two restaurants I spoke of are further up the hill from Hotel Preslav but very well worth the visit. We didn't find the gypsies a problem but we were warned about them and kept everything close at hand, bags zipped and nothing in pockets. Bulgaria was lovely and very much worth visiting.
