Ok...... I read the reviews on the Chaika Beach and i must admit i was a little bit worried but let me say that we got what we paid for.Nothing more nothing less! the Hotel was spotless not a dirty place in all of its buildings corridors and rooms. The rooms were mopped every day including Sundays We also had clean towels every day and a constant supply of loo roll. The food i will say was edible we lasted a week of the family getting up for breakfast and then going for our evening meal......breakfast was a mish mash of Continental,British, eastern European meals, fortunately there was loads of fruit ! Evening meals were the same but the only choices were Chicken or pork and fish usually. And how could i forget salad.....we knew it was time to eat out in a restuarant when my kids were coming back with plates full of cucumber and tomatoes ! The entertainment was shockingly bad.......if you can endure 3 hrs of 1 man playing a guitar in front of his backing tape machine and singing like a bad x factor audition , then good luck to you. Needless to say we found a brilliant bar called "Yeats" two for one cocktails and th ebeer was very cheap. To cut a two week holiday short we loved it ..... ignore my gripes which are genuine and valid and if you can see through them go there and enjoy yourselves because we did ..Brilliant,busy,bubbling,fun,exilerating,in your face,24 hr party place,gorgeous,fabulous...just a couple of words chosen by my children about the Hotel and the holiday in general. Would we go back ?? yes tommorrow is the answer.Try it for yourselves.

If you read the reviews you might be worried, we were!! Dont worry, the hotel is good, staff friendly enough. In effect we felt we got what we paid for. The room was fine with lots of room. Food, well, food in a different country. Edible. Main complaint being that no drink is offered with the evening meal and you have to buy one, not cheap! Everything going on around the hotel which is right in the centre of the resort, the downside is that it is busy until very late! Sunny beach certainly is not eastern bloc but very similar to Blackpool. It is not excissively cheap, but it is cheaper than here! You need to go back one street from the beach mall. Lots of fake goods. We saw no violence, robberies or prostitution but i dont doubt it's about! Beach lovely, no sunbeds at the pool but no different to anywhere else. Bourgas airport- basic and small.

The hotel is attractive and clean. The room was large and clean towels every day. The food was not great, breakfast was mainly aimed at German tastes, tinned fruit and banana was the only option so pretty terrible as was the fruit juice. Not much choice and milk was always warm so my son wouldnt have cereal. Dinners were not as bad but only ever chips as an accompaniment, no potatoes, rice or pasta normally. The entertainment was fairly bad, there are three pools but the animation team only did things at the front pool and there were limited sun beds so you couldnt sit with the kids if they were in that pool. The evening entertainment wasnt worth staying for i'm afraid, it would have been nice to relax at the bar but nothing much to interest the guests so only ever about 20 people watched. There is no service lift so the maids pushed in on the lifts in front of you with their trolleys and suggested you use a different one. Only fault with the room was putting a group of teenage boys on our floor who were rowdy and loud but security did sort them out and they did quieten down, although the rooms are on a landing. If anyone came home you heard the doors close unless they were being very quiet. The resort is really nice but as you are on the beach you get music from the front street until around midnight.

Any1 going 2 Bulgaria MUST read this review.

What I saw was amazing and I couldn't maybe wouldn't do anything about it.

This report is not aimed at the hotel, which I must say is excellent. I just happend to stay there and saw so much from my room balcony. The food is generally poor in the resort and the hotel was as good as any restaurant we visited. Huge buffet selection for both breakfast and dinner. Towards the end we stayed in the hotel to eat and gave up trying to find a good restaurant. One evening we went to "Happy" reastaurant and Jenny ordered steak, they never asked, how she wanted it cooked, then looked at us as if we had 2 heads when we asked for a steak knife and put 1.60 on the end of the bill, for ketchup.

OH..real scamble for the sunbeds every morning, not nearly enough of them. There will be more available in the new pool when it opens, but the location of this pool is poor compared to the main pool.

I had heard about this, but didn't believe it, but I saw it with my own eyes. I saw approx 14 or 15 people being robbed of everything they had. There were 4 or 5 hookers working the street outside our hotel. When they would pick up a punter they would take them down to the darkness of the beach to do the deed. However with precise timing, a number of heavies would follow down and rob the punters of everything. One managed to get away, but they chased him, what happen next is unbelievable...he ran from the beach being chased by these heavies, to escape he ran into our hotel, they caught him and started to hit him and then shoot or prod him with stun guns. The lad then managed to scramble to his feet and jump into the pool. He was surrounded by the heavies, even one that i believe was security in our hotel and another heavy which I hadn,t seen earlier. This leads me to believe that there is an organisation of bouncers-thugs all working the resort 2gether. They started throwing chairs at him in the pool. At this stage about 100 people had gathered on the street outside and lots of guests had come to their balconies. Some residents then went down and rescued the young lad. Even with all the people watching, these people didn't care, they were angry and violent, Later another man came back up after being robbed, he hid in the grounds of our hotel and waited for one of the heavies to return, I am only allowed 2500 characters and I feel a duty to warn anyone going there, e-mail me at colmjenny©hotmail.com for this report in full.

We have just returned from 1 week in Bulgaria, staying at the Chaika Beach Hotel in Sunny Beach. The hotel was lovely! The rooms were very clean and well decorated. The reception staff weren't the friendliest. They weren't rude just not very cheerful but the restaurant staff were helpful and friendly.

The food on the other hand wasn't the greatest. Breakfast was okay, a good selection but the evening meals was quite bland. We booked half board and ate in only 2 nights out of 6.

There are plently of good, reasonably priced restaurants to chose from. The Mexican restaurant, Mamacitta's, was excellent. Any other places we ate were good too but chips are served with absolutely everything. The Funny Pub is well worth a visit. Excellent cocktails, relaxing atmosphere, great pizzas, friendly staff and they were showing the football :)

Our rep, Keith was helpful and informative and there were plently of excursions to chose from but we spent our week relaxing down the beach (coz unless you're up with the birds in the morning, you have no hope of getting a lounger by the pool) or chilling with a cocktail on the decks of the pirate ship (on the beach front directly across from the hotel).

We were worried about the weather to start with. The first couple of days were quite overcast and windy and it rained heavily for a few hours on our third day but after that it was glorious weather for the rest of the week. Very hot!

There are lots of shops and supermarkets and the fake designer gear is excellent. My boyfriend got a really good quality ski jacket for about 30 quid. The chicken kebabs (look out for stalls selling kebaps) and the fresh doughnuts are heaven and hard to resist.

Be careful when paying for meals and drinks. We found that some places would give us a receipt for our first round of drinks and then would charge us again when we ordered our food so we would be paying for the drinks twice. It doesn't happen everywhere but just be aware when paying the bill.

The toilet situation got on my nerves after a while. It costs 50 stinkis (as we called them) to use the toilet which was fine coz they were always very clean, but there just aren't enough of them! There could be 1 toilet block covering 2 or 3 bars and it's just a pain having to go searching, especially when you NEED to go.

I was really worried about seeing dancing bears but thankfully there weren't any or I would probably have been in tears for a week.

Be aware of the golf buggies! They are everywhere, travelling quite fast and an elderly couple were knocked down while we were there.

The resort is just like every other beach resort we have ever been to. That's not a bad thing but if you after something different then it's not for you. If that is your thing then get there quick coz now they've joined the EU, the currency will be changing soon and it won't cheap for long.

We really enjoyed our week in Sunny Beach but wouldn't go back. Not because of the resort or the hotel but because it's a big wide world and we prefer to visit somewhere different each holiday.

Happy holidays :)

Sunny Beach is a beautiful beach resort, the sand is clean and golden and the water (although quite cold this time of year) was crystal clear and safe for all the family. Beware of sales people on the Beach giving you change in the form of Bananas! We bought some fruit on our first day which should have cost 6Lev, we gave them 10lev, got 2 lev change coupled with a cheeky smile and a Banana! As far as sales people go there is everything to offer on the beach, they sell fruit, doughnuts, coffees and even cocktails (the life guard doubles as the local barman). Overall though they really have tapped into every obvious customer requirement and exploited it. Good on them I say!

We visited the resort to visit some family who live over there so we also got to view some of the 'true Bulgaria' which I must say is magnificent so I would definately recommend any trips that may be on offer to see the true sights and not just the beach front. The Chaika Beach was a lovely hotel, not enough pool space for even half the size of the hotel but other than that the facilities are of an above average standard and very clean and tidy.

Please be warned when changing money in the resort. The exchange booths display a 'buy' rate and a 'sell' rate and often switch the two around so that you think you are getting a great rate, only to find that you have been had! When you then challenge this an extremely large man intimidates you to the point of fearing for your own personal safety so best avoided I would suggest. The one safe place to exchange money was the 'crown' exchange booths which seemed the only honest facilities for this.

Overall a great holiday, great weather and a lovely hotel. Would definately recommend.

The hotel was very nice room quite nice food not always hot and mabe not to every one taste entertainment nil resort very good for shopping and not much else, other wise average holiday. We did not have a nice holiday as my wife tripped in the hotel where the piano is situated and because of her injuries we could not do the things one would do on a holiday ie sithseeing tours etc so on the whole we had a nil holiday .
I would like to find out from any one that stayed in this hotel if any one tripped in the same vicinity as my wife did near the piano on a section of raised flooring if so if they could highlite this on this web site so as others can be aware that there is a possibility of danger in tripping within this area of the hotel.

the hotel is nice and clean very surprised when we walked in the room and we had an appartment did not expect that thought we would have been sharing with kids for a fortnight.balcony was only about a meter squared though but if you just had a normal sized room your balcony would be a bigger size .we went with open eyes knowing that the place is just getting used to all the tourists,we were very pleasently surprised enjoyed every minute of it.we didnt want to come home after two week.

hotel food //wouldnt bother getting up for it ,we only did it 3 times then we had had enough we went to tropicana for a bacon butty they we nice //evening meal i suppose you could always make do but it was so cheap to eat uot we didnt make do//meals in tropicana and the castle which belonged to the hotel were nice but we went to carberry that was out of this world the lamb was beautiful 4pints 2 pop 4 main meals and 2 sweets cost 60 lev about 22 quid .pint bottles of stella from shop a quid .would recommend going to reps night it was fantastic.our friends went to khans tent night they came back blottoed they really enjoyed that.there is so much to in suuny beach you cant do it all in one holiday we will be going back proberley stop in globus hotel next time they said food was good in there and you could still get a sun bed at eleven in morning.got told about sun beds in chaika that you couldnt get a bed but the is to be around the pool at 8.45 then the lifeguard comes round takes all the towels off at 9 watches the while 9.30 the goes again your towels are ok after that but i tell you something its a right laugh when you see foreigners looking for there towels under your towels when you have got there bed they cant understand whats happened, but i said that wouldnt spoil my holiday if you get a lilo you get best of both worlds you can go to beach with it and you can get the last of the sun with it ,at the front of the hotel the sun as gone at 4 so you move to the other pool at the side were they get the sun while 7.

honest give it a go it was brll we are going back dont worry over food its cheap to eat out and its nice.

hotel chaika beach was clean, comfortable and attractive. rooms were spacious and food was prob spanish 3* but there was always a choice and food was hot. not much on offer for the 2 veggies in our group though.the location was great overlooking the beach. The beach is nice and there are plenty of watersports on offer as well.
There are lots of bars and restaraunts in sunny beach and meals drinks etc, are so cheap!

The resort has lots of attractions for famillies including shops, crazy golf and an aquapark.
we would recommend this resort if you want a lively family holiday, its the bulgarian Magaluf but without gangs of stag/hens.Our teenagers had a great time!
We would go to bulgaria again, but to a quieter resort.

We arrived in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria on 21st May 2006. We were very apprehensive about Hotel Chaika because of the bad reviews we had read. Hotel Chaika is a beautiful hotel inside and out. Very central to everything. Room was cleaned every day. Food was excellent in the hotel. We had breakfast and evening meal there every day. The food was hot. There was a huge variety of food every day so suit everyones taste. We met a lot of people who were staying in this hotel and everyone were of the same opinion as us. The shops were excellent, very cheap. Nightlife was very lively. Weather was 33 degrees for the whole week. We only saw cloud for about 2 hours during the whole week.

We had a brillant week in Sunny Beach overall and would definately go back there.

The facade and lobby of this hotel is very impresive, but dont be fooled the rooms are not of a 4/5 star standard. The rooms were barely cleaned and beds were only changed once during our two week stay, the sofabed my son had to sleep on was smashed to pieces - however they did eventually fix this.

The floor in the bathroom was constanly wet as the water came up through the floor and it was not cleaned for the full two weeks. The Shower curtain was mouldy and the room stank!!!! We were eventually moved to a much smaller room which again was very grubby and smelly. The food was awful and only catered for the Germans and nothing for kids except ice cream.

The chance of getting a sunbed is low as there are towels on the loungers from 7.00am. We only managed to get a sunbed one day and had to go down at 6:30 and sleep on them.

Bulgaria is a nice place but i would not go again, far too busy, too many golf buggies, scooters etc. on the strip with little room to walk along the seafront.

There are also a lot of children begging on the strip outside the hotel and also ladies of the night use the hotel toilets, so beware.

The hotel at first sight looked impressive. Spacious clean rooms although lacking in storage space. The rooms were cleaned, beds made and towels were replaced everyday, despite this there was always a faint smell of damp. The housekeeping staff were very helpful. None of the ones we spoke to spoke English but they still managed to make themselves understood.

You had to be really brave to go in the pool as it absolutely freezing, and all one depth with no shallow end so ok if your tall. The kids pool wasn't heated either.
The Irish bar in the hotel was a more expensive than some in the area but 0.5litre beer still only came to about £1, which is a lot cheaper than the uk, and the friendly staff made up for it. When we asked what the name of the cd they were playing was so we could buy it, one of the barman immediately took us out to the stall he got it from and asked for it for us. Another, when noticing we were expecting a baby, gave us some great tips from his own experiences.

The breakfasts were good but unfortunately the evening meals were not. Vegetarians or other diets were not well catered for if at all and poor labelling of food meant you weren't always sure what you were putting on your plate! Waiters were friendly but very slow.
The resort was busy with plenty to do. In most bars the food and drink were cheap and quite good quality. The people outside the bars handing out leaflets could be annoyingly persistent and actually put us off going into a few rather than the opposite.
If we did go back we would defiantly not go half board and defiantly only for 1 week.

I have to say the entrance to this hotel is impresive the bars are lovely and the irish bar is very nice, You do have to make your own beds and they are not chaged very often the bed sette our children slept on was broken and very uncomfortable.

The floor in the bathroom was constanly wet as the water came up through the floor and it was not cleaned for the full two weeks. The food is okay but not much choice for kids if they are bad eaters also you will struggle to get a seat at any time. You can not get around the pool as there are towels on the loungers from 7.00am and then there is no sun on the pool after 3.00pm The sea is full of jelly fish from september to october as we were told from one of the local people after my little girl had been stung.Cost us 150Levar at the 24Doctors for injection and cream. So be carefull as no one will help you so go to chemist and as for cream if it happens.

Bulgaria is a nice place but i would not go again nothing for kids really so they got really bored, weather was not to good and hotel is most certainly not 5 staror 4star. We were ready to come home the second week. The only good thing is you can buy copies of everything really cheap and there are plenty of bars and resteraunts to go in to which are also cheap. There are also a lot of children beggin on the strip outside the hotel and also ladies of the night.
