the hotel complexes are a bit cut off from the locals the only shops are about a 30-40 walk along the beach where tthe locals will greet you like long lost friends and will sell you their goods at 75% cheaper than the resorts be prepared to haggle

First time in Dominican, we would definitely go back. Was warned before hand about the food and other things but had no problems. Seemed quite safe, beach was great and weather generally very good.

the speciality resturants were difficult to book as very popular...my advice booked at least a 4 days in advance to avoid disappointment.... the japanese was amazing, cuban was great but italian was not too clever

Cayo Guillermo is not a resort as such but a small island with 4 hotels, a bowling alley & a lobster shack.Nothing else! There is nothing outside of the hotels & it is VERY much a hotel based holiday. The beach is lovely with shallow warm water and fish in abundance.

We didnt venture into the resort of Runaway Bay so we cannot comment on the facilities on offer hence I have only marked them as average

Playa Dorada is great has more hotels & golf course - shops and clinic - horse rides Puerto Plata town every one to their own choice not realy ours

Resort was disapointing as already mentioned above with the water being brown and beach not being great.

We actually stayed in the Hotel complex in the evenings as they had good entertainment most evening, "The Lion King" was the best, but the "Animation Team" work hard every night with the entertainment and resident band, which are very good. Also enjoyed watching the dance competitions in the disco. Did not venture out in the evening except for one night which the Reps did, "Dominican Night", which was very good.

i thought everything was great, it has great markets for you to practise them haggling skills. fantastic beaches all the was down, it has a bus sevice every twenty min covering all varadero for £4 for an all day ticket worth the money even if its just for a round trip to see all of varadero

The grounds and the setting are truly spectacular. We stayed in Sagi and loved being so close to the water and enjoying the stunning views from our patio. While there are many great places to explore in and around Negril, we didn't venture far as Catcha had everything we could ask for. Great food, awesome drinks and a terrific staff to help us with anything we needed.

Front Street is your classic main street full of shops and good places to eat. There are a few touristy things as well such as the birdcage in the middle of the street that you can stand in. Almost all of the stores are closed by 5pm. The restaurants have amazing food but are expensive. There is not a big nightlife scene and on a Sunday morning the place feels very quiet and dead. The best time to go is for a Wednesday Night Harbour Night. It is a festival and stores stay open later than normal.

This is a newer area in the Dominican Republic for British tourists. It is a quiet resort with not much near by. Most of the tourist amenities are in the hotel grounds. It is expected to expand in the next few years according to the local guides. The good bit just now is you do get to see the more authentic DR people rather than the 'tourist trap' authentic village.

Didn't venture too far, But was extremely dissapointed with the beach. Sea is full of sea grass and didn't see too much sea life. Sand is lovely and soft but looks messy where the grass has washed up

The Sandals Regency Resort and Spa was fantastic. The staff were very attentive catering for your every need. On our first night we arrived for dinner and our waiter lifted the chair for me to sit down, placed a napkin on my knee, served us water and drinks throughout our meal and was genuinely pleased to meet and speak to us, great staff. The food and drink was free as all Sandals resorts are 'all inclusive' basis with local and international brand drinks. Food at the resort was brilliant with 9 restaurants to chose from. We loved the French restaurant 'La Toc' which served us 5 courses, please do not be put off with this as it is not a huge amount of food. There is a chocolate buffet one evening per week, a themed caribbean carinval night, talent contest and local singers, the entertainment was first class. There is also a piano bar situated beside the Pitons restaurant which is nice as at least twice a week a guy takes requests even modern songs like Snow Patrol, fantastic. Loved the main pool and pool at the quiter side of the resort, both have swim up bars. With Sandals we got to visit the other two Sandals resorts by free shuttle bus, this is worth doing. Overall, fantastic holiday, world class food and service and we left feeling very special. We will visit again.

it was ok, but as we had no sun it is hard to say really, we were fed up due to the inclement weather!
