Negril is lovely. I suppose the mark of a good holiday is whether you'd go back there, and whether you'd recommend it to friends. The answer is definitely. In fact we hope to go back there again, taking our best friends with us.

Playa Dorada review

Playa Dorada although in the main is quite well maintained, particularly the golf courses it does remind me of the Canary Islands in the 1980's. The shopping mall is particularly dated and shabby, a high percentage of the hotels are well past their sell-by date. The beach however is superb.

contrary to belief sosua is perfectly safe to venture . like everywhere including home there is crime and i dare say seedy parts of town but use the same common sense as at home and you will be fine.as in most tourist resorts you will get a bit of hassle to buy from the shops but a polite no thanks is sufficient and we found that after a few days they get to know your face and we just said not shopping today . the people are polite and friendly and there is some bargains to be had just remember to haggle offer what you think it is worth but please be fair.if you are looking for a really nice carving wait till you go mega truck safari as they are amazing. This tour will def open your eyes to the dominican way of life ..the coffee is amazing .the carvings are fantastic and fairly priced.just ask but still haggle.ocean world is good and you have the chance t swim with dolphins ... go on the cable car to mount isabelle de torres for outstanding views of puerta plata..there is loads more to do and see .. the amber museam where they have the original jurassic park amber. Now if your looking to watch your fav sport visit eddies sports bar but for a great night out you just have to visit jolly rogers bar for karaoke darts dominoes and a great welcome the staff are out of this world and you may go in a stranger but you will definately come out a friend .....

I played the Country Course and toured the new Green Monkey course in the afternoon. It is a quite amazing achievement! over 100 people a day have been working to manicure it and it has now reached maturity in terms of being ready to play. It is the most perfect pasture. Boulders and cliffs have been carefully unearthed - No stone has been left unturned, no turf has been so much loved. It represents one of the finest courses in the world certainly in the top 10. If you think you are a good golfer think again - even the best (Tiger) will have a challenge from the backtees which have been strategically placed to make this one of the most challenging golf expieriences you will ever face .

I have visited the fort a number of times since I have been travelling to Tobago because it is really a place to show off to someone who has never visited the island. I best part is even though you have to travel through Scarbrough's Hospital grounds to get there the picture perfect scene awaiting at the top of the hill is amazing. At the fort there is also the museum so technically to visit two places with one trip. To the North of the museum there is a nice layout of cannons and the view from there is picturesque. The lawn is nicely kept and to the West is the area where prisoners were kept. The ocean view all the way aound is very very beautiful you see all the shades of greens and blues the ocean can ever have. The museum has an entrance fee of $20TT for adults if I can remember precisely. To the East there is information area where you get brochers, leaflets and postcards the postcards you pay for though. Oh there is no area on the fort where you buy any food or drink so I would advise walk with water at least and make sure and walk with a camera.

Half moon beach. One of the best kept secrets in Jamaica. Local business man, Andrew Marr, a duel citizen of Jamaica and USA, has developed a beach, bar, restaurant, and cabins. While missed by all of the tour trapped vacationers, this place is off the beaten path and worthy of a lunch, a dinner or even a whole vacation. Park and enter through the wrought iron gates into a lush and welcoming path to the restaurant. Order breakfast, lunch or dinner anytime. Swim in the ocean or snorkel around one of the islands off shore. Take a jungle hike or just sit on the beach (clothing optional, but not really a big nude place so not over whelmed) Call him anytime

my driver and drove to two small towns, includoing Guanabacoa. Raphael is so nice and so helpful and such a professional and a great guy as a bonus that he made the trip a pleasure. I went to the Jewish cemetary and the caretaker lives next door in a small shack with a goat tied up like a watchdog. I asked him if he was Jewish and he said no but explained he got his job because "they trust me." He was so helpful in what he showed me and in his explainations (in Spanish). Truly a lovely day, Raphael's talks with me are a wonderful memory and seeing a small town is a pleasure after busy Havana.

This was one of the best tours we did during our stay in Punta Cana. We visited a cave, a local shop, a beautiful beach and a cigar factory. We also did horseback riding. They were automatic horses so everybody could enjoy them. No need to have ever been on one. The demonstration of the chicken fight wasn’t really my thing but it is a big part of the Dominican way of life. It is interesting to see how they do it. The driving is not for the faint of heart. It’s not that you go crazy fast but those Dominicans haven’t got a clue that there is a road code. There are always plenty people that want to drive so if you’re not up to it you can sit in the back and do some sightseeing. You see places worth leaving your hotel for. The nature of the island is breathtaking.

"Great Resort"

I think the resort is in a great location right on the Playa esmeralda beach which is beautiful (according to a book on Cuba I had it is one of the top 10 beaches!). You can play volleyball on the beach, there is a giant chess board, you can learn to windsurf, go snorkelling or there is a dive centre right on the beach where you can learn to scuba dive - we did this and completed our Open Water Diver through ACUC. There is also an ecological trail next to the hotel which is really interesting and you get a beautiful view of the beach and see from the lookout point on the trail. The hotel entertainment team are great and organise lots of things. There is a nightly show - e.g. water ballet, dancing etc. There are 2 pools -one on the Mares side of the resort and one on the Luna side, the Mares pool has the pool bar which is great for taking advantage of the all inclusive drinks! There are plenty of tours that you can pay extra to do such as a trip to Havanna, swimming with dolphins, jeep tours, visiting a cigar factory are just some. Cuba is a fantastic country and this resort had everything I needed! It was the first time I had been on an all inclusive holiday and I would definitely recommend this resort!

St James review

"The ideal place to relax"

100%
of reviewers would recommend this
resort to a friend

Open quote

The resort is an ideal place to soak up the sun, or to try kayaking or hobbicats in the calm bay. Unfortunatley we didn't snorkle too much on the Atlantic side due to the large numbers of jellyfish around at the time. The beaches are nothing less than perfect - hot on the Atlantic side with a slightly cooler breeze in the bay. Any washed up seaweed is cleared by about 7am and when we visited (September) there were plenty of loungers and shady areas.

The majority of the guests here are all-inclusive, and everything is included, even champagne, much to my partners delight. You'll very quickly get to meet Albert, a very pleasant chap who drives a golf buggy with a mobile bar around the beaches all day.

The resort is fairly remote on the island, which gives it some of its appeal to us, but Nelsons Dockyard and Shirley Heights are no more than a 15 min taxi ride away. I'm not sure about eating outside the resort - we didn't as the food was so good.

In keeping with the rest of Antigua, it seems, St James is not mad on the nightlife. There's entertainment every evening but if you're looking for discos till 2am this isn't the resort for you.
