You can go on excursions to Rodney Bay which is about 40 - 50 mins away and see the old Nelson's Dockyard. You can also visit all the local markets to find gifts.

Best beach i have ever seen, only problem it isn't private, so you get the locals constantly pestering you. Everything is free so i definately made the most of it. A few hidden extras like scuba diving and the spa understandably.

Cayo Coco review

"Lots of places to visit"

Cayo Coco is an island that is joined to mainland Cuba by a concrete land bridge and unless you go on an organised trip the only way off is to hire a car. We made full use of the 'Tourist Bus' that stops at the Tryp about 5 times each day - we used the bus to go a beautiful beach on Cayo Guillermo (another island joined to Cayo Coco by a bridge) and to go to the National Park - a wonderful conservation project funded by the Cuban Government. It is 25 pesos each to go in to the park BUT well worth it - we were treated to a rain dance by a native cuban - looked around an original settlement, held a crocodile and various other animals and saw a variety of birds. This is not something that the tour reps will normally tell you about because they do not commission on it BUT it was a wonderful day out. The bus is 5 pesos per person and will stop and pick you up where you were dropped off. There is also a land train that stops at the Tryp 2 times each day - this costs 12 pesos each and takes about 3 hours. We went into a bat cave and if flying bats don't bother you it was amazing - we also visited a type of ranch were we were treated to a show and had a drink BUT be warned take your mozzie spray. The Catamaran was OK - we stopped 3 times for swims and snorkeling and saw lots of fish and star fish - the speedboat trip was fantastic - you drive your own speedboot and then go snorkeling in the mangrove. There are no cash points on Cayo Coco - you can use your credit card NOT debit (as long as it is not linked to the USA) at the Blau Colonial next door to the Tryp but there is a high commission charge. We paid for all the Thomas Cook trips with a card but everything else has to be paid in cash including car hire.

The nightlife was also amazing. The shows were very good with talented dancers most nights and audience participation shows on roughly 3 times a week. The latter shows were by far the most entertaining as well as the group of 4 singers from Cuba who were extremely good. After the shows finished at 10pm the nightclub opened and I spent most nights in here with other people that I had met out there. The drinks at all the bars were great and needless to say we had a few every night! One of the animacion team also took us to a nightclub out of the resort on the last night. The restaurants were also of high standard and even though it was the same food everyday in the buffet you can get fish, meat, pasta and stir-fry cooked fresh for you. We are also in contact with a couple of the resaurant staff as they were so friendly and gave such excellent service. It is well worth tipping at least 1 peso after your meals as they are so grateful and will offer even better service everytime you go in. I also enjoyed the food in the Chinese, Italian and International restaurants that you can book tables in. One day the waitress who always served us took us into the town of Moron on the mian island of Cuba and although very run-down it was enjoyable. If you are planning a visit to a Cuban town I would recommend taking tips and small presents to give out as they do tend to ask tourists for gifts. We also had fantastic weather when we visited with most rain at night when we were in bed with only 3 hours of rain during one day.

I would definately recommend this holiday to anyone and have already booked to return next year and I can't wait!!!

The resort was suitable for couples and for families of all ages. There was plenty of things to do throughout the day, pool games, mini-golf,watersports etc. The tour operator was on hand six days a week if help was needed or if you wanted to book excursions outwith the hotel and there was lots of trips to choose from. Not too expensive...The resort has two different beaches, both absolutely stunning!!! I would recommend this resort to everyone, it is FANTASTIC...

The hotel is situated on the beach with nothing other than hotels around, therefore it is wise to take extra money for excursions if you really want to see Cuba. Beaches are a joy.
