Depends what you want from Cuba.....If your looking for a lively holiday then this isn't it. The restuarants and bars are far and few between. Its a good 20 min walk into Varadero to come accross any. If you want a relaxing time, sitting on the beach or round the pool , with not much to do in the evening except the entertainment the hotel puts on.then this is the place for you.

A small resort with a small market a lovely beachand facilities to buy a drink, however only made a short visit and then returned to the hotel.

Nice resort, lovely park, great beaches. Not old Cuba if that's what youare looking for, however we enjoyed it.

From what little we saw of the resort it was very friendly and accommodating. People are very genuine and it feels very safe to be walking around - this is not the same in other Caribean resorts

I love my home but wish I could have reached Cuba - flight cancelled due to volcanic ash. Why waste your time & postage asking my opinion on a holiday you know you cancelled!!

An excellent resort, the beach is lovely with lots of water sports and what about the sea, clean warm water superb.

The resort is very peasant clean and well maintained, beautiful beaches. Primarily the whole area has been cleared of residents to make way for tourists, where the local people still leave they always have a friendly smile and wave. The town of Gaurdalavaca itself is quite small and basic, a few old cars from the fifties a couple of shops and a market. Because of the nature of the hotel complexes you don't really need to use the town.

this area was very good for beaches, culture was good as long as you travelled Holguin was interesting other areas to far to travel with children and costly Havana etc we didn't eat off of the complex, but visited the local market just up the road toiletries expensive gifts at a okay price.

Beautiful setting with plenty of things to do. We would recommend the speed boat trip, great fun. Also the trip to Havana which was excellant.

Varadero is a great resort if like us you want somewhere tropical with great weather where you can just relax. The beach is gorgeous. We have been there before, but if you haven't I say Havana must be visited!

Lots of watersports and hotel based activities. Birdwatching/fishing for those who like it,( not us) but we had so many activities we wanted to do and not have time for but we did do a lot of diving.....Most people joined in a few activities/boat trips etc and lesiurely strolled around the place.

Re. Cuba take sufficient cash to meet your needs....lots of charges/poor exchange rate with credit cards up to 11%. Cash needed to pay for tour trips/Havana etc.

Resort is good! Not much to do here as everything is mostly hotel based ... but the hotels bring in acts that are soooo good!

Not really able to comment on eating out, we did not eat out on our stay. Enjoyed the location and the 1st Avenue was interesting with the Flea Markets.

Very dissappointed with the day trip to Havana. The tour guide did not speak very good English and the general tour was very boring. He tended to show us the 'Squares' only in Havana.

all inclusive resort so price isn't an issue just tip 1 peso which is about 75p to the staff and the service is even better they give you bigger glasses which is better as they are very heavy handed with the rum!! cocktails were fab the beer was ok but strong they had a lemon slush which was very refreshing water is bottled you can take the litre one from the room and they will replace it daily and you can have it refiled at any of the bars the staff are very helpful remember to speak some spanish to them as this shows your making an effort thing like please, thank you, hello and goodbye nothing too taxing. you need to like Canadians as cuba is there big destination they seem to come in groups so they can be quite loud so be warned!! but with this in mind i would go again

Great if you just want to chill and see beautiful sea and landscapes, some interesting boat excursions, fine beaches and warm turquoise sea. If you want to see Havana, which is a not to be missed experience, go to Varadero, as Havana is too far away from Holguin.
