The hotel is situated on the beach with nothing other than hotels around, therefore it is wise to take extra money for excursions if you really want to see Cuba. Beaches are a joy.

Havana review
"Amazing place that you MUST visit"
resort to a friend
Havana is the most amazing place that I have ever visited, and while at first glance it may seem intimidating, the locals are very friendly.
As Havana is a big city, there aren't any beaches, but you don't miss them as there is so much to see around the city that you won't care about beaches.
The cost of food and drink varies depending on where you are, in the city itself, its quite cheap, but can be more expensive in your hotels.
The Night life was amazing, right outside our hotel was the Malecón, where a lot of Cubans gather on a night to talk, listen to and play music. Talking with the locals was a great experience, they are all so very friendly and want to know people purely to know them, not to get anything from you, and if you're lucky you may see some locals with their musical instruments jamming on the wall.
There is so much to see in Old Havana, so much history, we were only here for three days and it didn't feel like enough time to look round and see everything, I will defiantly be trying to go back to Havana again some time.
The Tropicana club show is a must, it is the most awe inspiring show I have seen and has some amazing music, dancing and so much history. The show has been around for many decades.

The resort had amazing quiet beaches, but it is isolated so there is nothing really to do out of the hotel (not that we needed to find anything else to do as the hotel was great).

Lovely resort for families with excellent clean beaches and watersports. Most entertainment is hotel based and there is not much nightlife outside of hotels. There are some restaurants but most hotels offer all inclusive deals. Beach is beautiful. Resort is interesting to walk around in the town to see the park, town square and local markets. It is also not too far from Havana for a day or overnight tour which is a must to experience Cuba. Great place for families.

my driver and drove to two small towns, includoing Guanabacoa. Raphael is so nice and so helpful and such a professional and a great guy as a bonus that he made the trip a pleasure. I went to the Jewish cemetary and the caretaker lives next door in a small shack with a goat tied up like a watchdog. I asked him if he was Jewish and he said no but explained he got his job because "they trust me." He was so helpful in what he showed me and in his explainations (in Spanish). Truly a lovely day, Raphael's talks with me are a wonderful memory and seeing a small town is a pleasure after busy Havana.

Varadero review
"Sol Palmeras Varadero jan 10"
resort to a friend
Varadero is still developing. If you try the open top bus ride you will see downtown varadero and will be shocked at the poor state of the housing. It is still a developing country and there is poverty out there. There is a flea market and shopping centres in Varadero but once you've seen one market they are the same the world over. The beaches are lovely and kept clean and tidy the sea is a gorgeuos turquise clolour just like in the brochure. If the weahter is bad ( ie a cuban cold front is a bit like a summers day in UK ) then there is not a lot to do to entertain kiddies. Overall we mainly stayed at the hotel. We did do one local trip in a Jeep Safari which was fun but they tried to cram to much into one day - we did snorkling, swimming in a cave lagoon, speed boat ride up a river with dancing afterwards, lunch at a ranch with horse & bull riding !!

Please bear in mind that Cayo coco is very isolated from the rest of cuba. To go to the mainland you will need to go on an organised trip on hire a car from the hotel for the day. We did both and prefered the organised trip. The roads are very difficult to navigate and quite stressful so sit back and enjoy the luxury of an air conditioned coach instead! Cayo coco ismainly made up of other all inclusive hotels so apart from the entertainment etc that you hotel offers there isn't anything else. From what I could see, there were no restaurants/bars etc to visit outside of the hotel, so thats why the hotels offer a variety of eating options etc. Beach is beautiful and cleaned every morning. See is warm and clear and fantastic for lounging in and relaxing. Many beach side activities available from pedaloes (usually free with returnable deposit) to catamaran, day cruise, snorkelling and air flight transportation-cart-type thing! Prices vary but deffinately worth the money as it gives you an opportunity to see the resort from a variety to vantage points and offers great photo opportunities too! Lots of trips to choose from which can be orgainsed through your rep or locals around the hotel. We did horse riding and a day trip to moron which were enjoyable. Bring your own lilo etc as to buy them from the hotel is very expensive!!! You can leave it at the hotel for the maids if you dont want to bring it back. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, and are not worried about being able to walk to restaurants etc from your hotel than this is a great place. Very relaxing, warm, laid back with friendly and helpful locals :).

the resort as a whole is based on an island with nothing else but hotels. this means that there is very little life outside the hotels but with the majority being all inclusive this is not really an issue. the island is very quiet with no local people living on the island which allows everyone to do as they please.
