"Lovely place but VERY isolated"

Overall Resort Rating:

Very Good

Open quote

Cayo Guillermo is not a resort as such but a small island with 4 hotels, a bowling alley & a lobster shack.Nothing else! There is nothing outside of the hotels & it is VERY much a hotel based holiday. The beach is lovely with shallow warm water and fish in abundance.

"beautiful but boring"

Overall Resort Rating:

Poor

Open quote

Its not realy a resort. Scenery is gorgeous, but realy is just a hotel in the middle of nowhere. All the staff live over an hour away, and refer to cuba as the mainland. The cayos are joined to cuba via a realy long road. If you are happy staying in the hotel, sunbathing, swimming etc then its good, if you get cabin fever and like to get out then you could be bored.

"A bit isolated"

Overall Resort Rating:

Average

Open quote

Very isolated and took a while to get to the mainland if you were doing any excursions. Things don't tend to run on time - the "earliest" we got picked up was 45 mins late. Still, people were very friendly and if you just want somewhere to chill, it'll do a grand job

"Paradise"

The resort had amazing quiet beaches, but it is isolated so there is nothing really to do out of the hotel (not that we needed to find anything else to do as the hotel was great).

"Well worth a visit"

Overall Resort Rating:

Nothing to do outside the hotels except for fishing para gliding speed boating walking and spending time on the beach. Scooter and car hire outside hotel, loads of wild life and birds to look out for, and if you are feeling brave take the flying boat trip (its a rubber dingy with wings and an engine) BRILL.

A great resort if you're looking for a week or two of doing not very much. The ideal place for chilling out on the beach by day and eating and drinking by night.

"OK if you just want to get away + relax"

Overall Resort Rating:

Good

Open quote

My partner & I went for 14 nights & had a relaxing time on the sandy beach, however when the tide was in it was very narrow. The sea was like a bath, very shallow & you are able to walk out 50yards in clear waters.

We visited Havana by plane and stayed over night, in the evening we went to the Tropicana show which was very good. We went on drive yourself speed boats and snorkeled in the mangroves, where you swim with tropical fish. We went on a large catamaran out to sea, snorkeled off deserted islands and went to a paradise beach for lunch.

Then my partner and I swam to the shore, where I proposed in the shollow waters off the beach, very romantic. The only bad thing was that there are a lot of crabs walking around at night, but they dont bother you. We had one storm, If we ever go back to cuba we might go to the mainland as you are a bit isolated on the island, but ok if you want to get away from it all and relax.

Very quiet resort, you stay mainly in the hotel, apart from organised trips. The beaches are golden, which stretch on forever, there are plenty of sunloungers, and water activites. As well as beach traders, selling drinks etc. The bowling alley is close by and good fun for kids. There is also a little train which can take you to another quieter beach.

"Turquoise sea"

Overall Resort Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

This is purely a hotel based holiday with no outside restaurants and bars. Having said that the beaches are beautiful. We had a great time at the Melia. The pier is in the process of being rebuilt and I would say that they were aboiut a third off the way. Many reviews mentioned mosquitoes so we took plenty of lotion. However we didn't have any problems and didn't even see any.

"cosy resort"

Overall Resort Rating:

Very Good

there's not that much going on outside the hotel in my opinion, but that wasn't a problem for me because the purpose of our holiday was to simply relax and get some sun! That being said, we were thoroughly satisfied! The sea was gorgeous, typical cuban quality - calm, warm and clear! Unfortunately, there's not much beach for most of the day... the water comes right up to the vegetation... so those who love their sand might be disappointed in this regard.
