Had no idea of what to expect from Cuba but I was not disappointed. Upon arrival we noticed a distinct lack of holiday makers at the hotel. I was a bit worried about this at first but had no need to be. Apparently it was a quiet time of year when we went. The staff are amazing. They are so friendly and always say hello as you walk past. The reception staff were a bit abrupt but the rest were great. The food was a little different from what we were used to but I always found something I liked. There was a very large selection. Out of meal times there were some snacks which mostly consisted of ham and cheese toasties or sandwiches. This was fine at first but by the end of the holiday we'd had enough cheese and ham to last a life time. The drinks were great. My first time in an all inclusive hotel. There was a huge selction at the main bar. You even get waiters fetching you drinks on the beach. The entertainment was ok. Nothing spectacular but sat through most of the shows and enjoyed them. The ent staff work hard for the shows but don’t expect a west end style performance. The beach and hotel gardens are excellent. I could only describe them as paradise. The sea was the colour of bottled water. If you are planning on going to this hotel you will not be disappointed.

We have just returned from our 4th stay at the Melia Cayo Guillermo, and have already booked for next year.My 15 year old daughter won't go anywhere else, she always meets loads of new friends and sometimes old ones too, theres one couple we know who have just been for the 15th time!We really love this place, it is 5 star but cuban 5 star, just come with an open mind and u will love it. sometimes u might get sprouts and carrots at breakfast but who cares, sometimes the decor might need touching up a bit too, so what, the mosquitos can be a pain in the ar...(didn't bother me at all this time). The pool is gorgeous, the gardens and ponds are lovely and well kept. Now the beach, the beach is beautiful, powder white sand, every shade of blue. I defy anyone to not have their breath taken away by it. Now to the staff. I love them all. They make us welcome from the moment we arrive to the second we leave, some have become our dearest friends and will always be so. I can honestly say we feel like we've had a holiday here, it's so laid back and relaxing, yet you can party too if u want. The shows are great, the entertainers work so hard to make sure everyone has a good time.Don't come here if u are a shopaholic cos there aren't any, theres nothing, oh yea theres a bowling alley 3 lanes, right next door, have we had some good times there with our cuban friends, we love it. If you want a change from the usual fortnight you have, or u just want to get away from the stresses and strains of everyday life, try Melia Cayo Guillermo. Hand on heart you'll be so glad you did. it's perfect.

THE BEST HOLIDAY WE HAVE EVER HAD...all 21 of us!

We stayed here in Nov 2004 with our wedding party. As soon as we arrived we knew we had made the right choice of venue for our wedding. The hotel was lovely! We walked down to the beach and were absolutely amazed at how beautiful it was. You just can't believe its real. Pure white sand and unbelievably clear, warm turquoise sea with a wooden jetty with hammocks! My nan cried as soon as she saw the beach, she said "This is paradise". The grounds are beautiful too, with gardeners always around to cut you down a coconut, they put a straw in for you and even make u hats out of these green leaves that eventually turn brown. I still have mine! The staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was out of this world. The choice is unbelievable. They have the main restaurant for breakfast, you name it they have it, they cook whatever you want in front of you. For lunch you are really spoilt. You can go to the beach grill which is this really smart wooden shack on the beach with beautiful sea views where you can have grilled meat or fish with salad and desserts or you can go to the Italian restaurant by the poolside which serves a menu of gorgeous italian food, best pizzas ever. Your third option is the poolside bbq which serves burgers sausages chips salad etc which was also very nice. In the evening you have a choice of the main restaurant again which has an endless choice, if you are a fussy eater you will still not be bored by the end of your stay, its actually difficult to choose what to have each evening as everything is so nice, or you can use the italian restaurant of the al la carte restaurant which is lovely. I think you only get to use this once per week but to be honest we prefered the main restaurant. It was such a high standard.

Entertainment was good, and after the show each evening they opened up the disco which was a good laugh!

The wedding itself was absolutely amazing...i won't go into too much detail as if you're planning to get married here i don't want to spoil it for you. We hired the band that played in the restaurants each evening. They were fantastic and well worth the money. The wedding planner couldn't have been more helpful and totally put our minds at ease. She did everything for us. There were even a few suprises that weren't stated on the wedding package list.
