Overall Hotel Rating:
Just back from this wonderful hotel. And we had a fantastic time.
Upon arrival , we were met by some of the entertainment team, and bar staff with a cool drink, which was very welcomed.
Oue flight with Thomas Cook was great, the cabin staff couldn't do more for you, and it only took us 8hrs 45 mins from Manchester to get there and 8.15 hours back.
The room we had was a standard one,and was more than ample. There are hardly any rooms with sea views, so i wouldn't bother to upgrade. But the rooms were kept really clean, the laundry changed every day, and the fridge ws flly stocked and replenished every day too.
The food in the restaurant was fabulous, especially where they cook it in front of you. ( look out for a lovely chef called Elldis). And the international restaurant was fabulous and great for a special occassion.
The beach is just to die for !!!!! We didn't go to the pool ! The waiters come on the beach every 30 mins or so seeing if you want a drink, so no need to go to the bar all the time. opefully you like rum , coz all drinks are made from a rum base.
The entertainment team are good , Hannibel is the head of team , and a nicer guy you couldn't meet. I have to say the shows are nothing reall to write home about , but as long as you are ok about that you won't be disappointed. The staff are not allowed to stay on the peninsular and travel 1.30 hrs at least one way to get to work, so i'd take money to tip !
Our rep LINO was terrific, wehave never had such a good rep. Unfortunately i got a bug the day e were supposed to fly to Havana , and he repaid our money in full, no hassleand immediately. He's local so very knowledgeable and everyone we met sang his praises.
We did the trips to the salsa night on the beach , and what a laugh, look out for the chef . Also the sppedboats... they are a MUST. And also the catamaran.....which stopped at Pilo beach, which is stunning.
Take small gifts , or leave holiday clothes for the staff as they are so grateful for everything. And they will remeber you when you least expect it.
Would recommend this hotel to everyone....so enjoy !!!!

We booked Thomas Cook Premier Cabin which was excellent and made the 9 Hour flight very comfortable.
The Thomas Cook Rep was a local man, who spoke excellent English and was superb. The Hotel is in need of refurbishment but in saying that the staff were so helpful and friendly, it didn't seem to matter. The pool area is very clean, but often too hot to sit around. The beach and sea were wonderful, except for broken sun loungers which looked untidy. Seaweed is a problem, but it is cleared every morning by a tractor going the length of the beach.
There are 3 Restaurants: 1 Buffet style, 1 Cuban near the beach, and 1 A La Carte. All three were exceptional. There is a main bar which opens 24 Hours a day and a Cuban Rum Bar near the beach, where we spent most of our time chatting to other Brits and Canadians. We took the trip to Havana by plane, it was awesome, so vibrant and full of life. The Speedboat trip through the Mangroves is a must!!!!! We also went to Pilar Beach by a mini road train, another experience we will not forget. There is a dive school along the beach, but the equipment is not up to standard and we would not recommend diving unless you take your own equipment. Safety did not seem to be top of their list. Staff are grateful for any clothes or toiletries you don't want to take home and tipping is gratefully accepted.
All in all, this is a very relaxing hotel, but far from luxurious. Considering it is in Cuba though, it is excellent. It is in a very remote location, which suited us. No shops for a fortnight - Sheer Heaven. There is a Clinic on site, which we had cause to use, and it was excellent. We did not find mossies too bad and the hotel grounds are sprayed regularly.

Overall Hotel Rating:
The cattle class 9 hour flight was a bit of a pain, especially sat behind some weirdo with a nervous twitch - just my luck! But it was worth it..read on.
Kuoni were very good - well organised, always there to meet us at airports, hotels etc, helpful if we had any questions and not pushy about trips etc.
Havana was well worth the visit - 3 nights in the Parque Central were excellent. The room was very good, big with a balcony and top views over the busy streets but quiet enough to sleep well. Drinks and food a little pricey but a good standard. Very good buffet breakfast. The old town is fascinating with superb old buildings, busy streets and old cars. Three days wasn't enough. The old book market well worth a browse, nice bars with live music all around. Took a taxi across to Cojima, had a great lobster lunch in Hemminways old haunt - well worth the short and inexpensive 1/2 day, self organised trip using the Lonley Planet as a guide.
Flew on to the Cayos and the Melia Guillermo for 7 nights. As with all the other reviews it's a bit dated but OK. In fact better than most of the other hotels we peeped into over the week, including several in Cayo Coco. The pool was nice to look at, but why use the pool when there's a 9.5/10 beach 100 yards away? The rooms were big and comfortable enough, good service but you may have to ask nicely a couple of times for water for the fridge etc - that's all. The food wasn't the best but it wasn't bad either. We didn't go for the 5 star thing, knowing it was more like 3 star, but it isn't 5 star prices is it?! For real 5 star you'd pay another Grand.
We had great weather, very sunny and hot but a bit windy towards the end. The best beach (9.8/10!) was a short 10 minute taxi ride towards the end of the Island - nice old bar, not many people.
The hotel staff were very friendly and hard working, especially in the all inclusive bar where they work to please. Don't go too mad or you'll spoil your holiday! The drinks were good. The staff didn't expect tips, but were pleased with the odd extra $1 now and then given as a gesture of appreciation.
Got bitten a few times, but the mossy's weren't too bad at that time of year. I met the hired mossy killer while out fishing, so they do try to keep on top of them.
We hired a car for 2 days which was well worth the effort. We got to see some of the mainland and real cuba. The hotel is quite remote and well away from towns and mainland country, so I'd recommend it. Take your passports as you need them to get on and off the Cayos. We paid about £50 a day for the car all in, unlimited miles and fully insured. Getting fuel is farily easy. We covered about 400Km in the 2 days and saw a lot of interesting sites.
I did a bit of fishing - took my own 6 piece travel spinning rod, reel with 30lb braid, wire traces and small box of lures. If you're interested I had a few fish off the main bridge near the hotel, and got a local lad to take me fishing down the island for a day off the rocks - near the lighthouse. There we caught quite a few plus bigger fish. Best lures were small surface poppers like Rapala skitter pop and Manns baby stretch. The fish included mainly jacks and snapper up to 5lbs which pulled incredibly hard. Lost a GT about 20lbs and had big baracudas up to 5ft long follow the lures!! Also saw plenty of bone fish on the flats, some tailing, and a few small tarpon but I didn't get a chance to fish for them. Booked the sea fishing boat for a day (about £300, but once in a lifetime shot!), but unfortunately the wind blew it off. There are 2-3 local guides that will take you fly fishing for the bone fish etc, but you should book them with the tour guide as soon as you arrive or before.
There you are - we had a good trip, hope this helps you to have one too.
cheers
Matt

I have just returned from an absolutely fantastic holiday 12th to 26th March 2007 aand have totally fallen in love with the beautiful island and its equally beautiful people. Turquoise water, miles of clean warm sand and palm trees heavy with coconuts.
My accommodation at the Melia was spotless. Towels and bedding changed every day and the fridge filled up also every day with beer and soft drinks. AND NOT A BUG IN SIGHT AT ANY TIME!!!
The food in all the different restaurants was first class, and there couldn't have been a greater variety. We were all spoiled for choice.
The lovely gardens were well tended by the gardeners who were always happy to talk to everyone and made incredible insects and birds out of palm leaves as well as sun hats, which were very welcome and worth a few pesos.
The pool area was immaculate and if it was too hot there a two minute walk to the beach through shady palm trees was pleasant. Pedro, a very tame pelican was a great attraction as was Tito, a black hawk who came regularly to be fed by one of the gardeners. The huge ornamental pool filled with fish swimming amongst the waterlilies was a joy to a certain egret who spent a lot of time there.
Now to the best part of all - the Cubans themselves - I have never met such friendly happy hardworking people who couldn't do enough for us. The bar staff never stopped working but were always friendly and very helpful. The Animation team and the dancers who put on a dazzling show at the theatre every night were at the poolside each morning to organise games both in the pool and out. Volleyball was always a favourite. We made many friends amongst them, Victor, Issy, Jimmy, Joel, Marie and Yandi are just a few who made our holiday such a success. I was there with my sister and her husband and we all agreed it was one of the best holidays ever.
Our two day trip to Havana for 311 cuc's approx £190 was worth every penny and we had a trip on a catamaran for approx. £40 which, included a sumptious lunch cooked on board, where we could snorkel and swim as much as we liked was also great value for money.
Suffice to say, and I can speak for all three of us, we couldn't have enjoyed a holiday more. Yes - I've certainly fallen in love with Cuba.

Overall Hotel Rating:
Upon arrival in Cayo Guillermo, we were surprised to see so much water, so many trees and mangrove swampy areas. No a bit how we expected it to look.
The hotel (resort) reception was very clean and tidy with very helpful staff. The only shops were to be found within this area and the staff in them seemed a little snooty to say the least. The staff on the counters outside the shops were lovely and very friendly.
The room itself was a short hike from the main reception, which wasn't a problem as we like a quieter room away from the noise of the evening entertainment. If you are an overly clean person, maybe the rooms wouldn't be quite clean enough but more than ok for sleeping in. Although having said that, we lived out of our suitcases due to the musty smell and lack of cupboard space.
The view from our room was non existent due to the large amount of palm trees between us and the sea.
The sea was beautiful, clean, clear and shallow enough to walk for ages without ending up out of your depth. Swimming was possible when the tide was in or in one of the deeper areas. The only thing missing was the fish. We had believed that the reef was close enough to swim to but unfortunately, you could only get there by boat - very disappointing for snorkellers.
If like us you like to see wildlife, then the variety of birds around will be a bonus. The flowers are beautiful although not out for long as the blooms are cut daily wither to be given to guests or for decoration around the hotel.
The staff all appear very friendly and helpful but we were unsure which of them were genuine and which were just out for tips or presents. We were advised that wages are very low in Cuba and that people rely on tips to make ends meet. My advice to anyone going to this area would be to take additional toiletries, especially toothpaste as these items are really hard to obtain for the locals and they are greatly appreciated when you leave.
All in all a good holiday apart from the insect bites and 4 days torrential rain.
Would we go back - not sure, I think we were spoiled by The Maldives 2 years ago.

I have just read alot of coments about alot of hotels and thought i would let you know how I found the Melia [cayo guillermo]
On arrival we was given a cold drink by a member of staff, The receptionist delt with us as quickly as she possibly could and was very friendly, she arranged for the bus boys to take our bags to our room which we found very comfortable and clean [our beds were changed daily, if you wanted clean towels you just left them on the floor] Although when we woke in the morning we had had a leak in the bathroom, when we reported this to reception they asked us if we were happy to stay in the room if they fixed the problem or did we want to move, They couldnt have been more helpful. I was ready to check out the beach, WOW, Soft white sand and clear blue sea, you will see some sea weed in the morning but the truck will pick it up early. You can sun bath on the pier, swing in one of the two hammocks IN THE SEA, or take your sun bed into the water I thought this was fantastic, and while you are soaking up the rays along comes a waiter and asks you if you would like a drink, ";coffee, coke or cocktail"; you choose, [i had cocktail]
They have a grill bar for lunch, bugers, fish [remember to ask them to remove the head]salad and rice dishes I will say this is an open diner, birds do land on the food that is not covered, All the waiters and waitress are very friendly. As usuall on all inclusive the meals are mainly buffet, I was not impressed with the evening meals,Most of the time they were cold and recycled, breakfast is the best time to eat [must try the omlletts] and if you are a fussy eater like my partner and me stick to a toasty mid day and then go and see the man in the Italian restaurant if he can fit you in he will do, Im sorry I do not remember his name but this is a great place to eat.
I did go into the jacuzzi but I thought this had a funny smell so didnt chance it again, you have got so many places to sun bath, beside the pool, on the beach, on the terace or in the hammocks you will enjoy yourself im sure and like i say you are never far away from a snack or a drink. The Dolphin trip is a must, and so are the speed boats but if you buy an underwater camera make sure you keep hold of the camara as when we had our film developed we had pictures of another family [do not give your camera to the guide]
SO Just to sum all this up. I was not impressed with the buffet but we used the Italian more often than not,but saying that, you will be able to find something if you are willing to wait for it to be cooked. The beach WOW, the people are so friendly especially Jackie our tour guide for the dolphin trip. The rooms are clean, the beds are changed daily, towels changed daily if needed

Sol Cayo Guillermo Cuba 15/10/2006 to 29/10/2006
Flight by Monarch
Well paying to sit up front the drinks were free, food not bad. My only complaint we sat in row 1 there was no bracket for the flight TV screen. Hence at meal times no where to put them, couldn't watch film and eat..
Cuba Customs
I have for both 2004 and 2005 complained about aggressive searches. 2006 was much better, very polite, very civilised done by professional Civil Servants quite acceptable. I had to sign a few forms for my HP Photo printer and produce it to prove I had not sold it when leaving.
Transfer
Coach driver had a case of cold beers for nominal cost, great start to holiday.
Sol Cayo Guillermo Reception
After such a long journey a drink awaited and process was fine. As a map reader I had no trouble finding our room but I think more help should be available for senior citizens. Entered the hotel complex by pool and main bar and encountered Mr Grumpy by the end of the holiday knew what he was moaning about. But Hells Bells a good holiday requires a bit of effort and it is that effort that enabled us to enjoy what we could.
Room
Rooms at Cayo Guillermo are in single or 2 story terraces. Our's was a healthy walk from bars and restaurants. But in beautiful well maintained grounds, end terrace single story. The room was a decent size, far larger than Sol Cayo Coco, shower good, loo flushed, bed comfortable. Most days towels and sheets were changed, if I had any complaints it was room cleaning. Gifts always taken but some days no towel or sheet change or sweep!
Restaurants
There was a major problem at the main restaurant, the extractors over the ";griddle area"; had packed up long ago, and the ventilation had also given up. Enter at breakfast after 2.5 kilos of bacon was put on the griddle and the fumes reached the door at the opposite side not very good for my asthma.
However the actual food was good, all meals could be freshly cooked. Breakfasts and lunch times we had excellent lassies serve us and evenings two wonderful kind men.
We tried the International which had a limited menu, nice tablecloths, but frankly we preferred the smoke next door. We also used the Beach Restaurant (needs booking) evening time and even though our waiter doubled as bar steward at The Rum Bar and knew us well the food was not as good as the main restaurant. This is our opinion and we are fussy eaters, I'm sure those who hate waiting for food to be cooked at the main restaurant may prefer the smaller specialist places.
Beach
White sand seemed to collect sea weed every high tide. Some days this was collected by ancient tractor not others. For most the beach sand was very narrow, at high tide could be half way up your sun loungers! The sea was warm on calm days but there were days it was so rough we did not enter.
Bars
There were two, the Rum Cocktail bar very civilised, friendly open till midnight or sometimes later if there were customers.
The main bar had ";All Inclusive"; drinks, International Brands, Coffee and snacks. We found this bar located by both pool and stage far too loud for us, but enjoyed a few coffees there.
If you are body piercing man with plenty of tattoos seeking Blackpool Stag weekend in Cuba then this bar is your spiritual home.
Trips
There were the usual range of trips Swim with Dolphins, Havana, speed boats, Colourful Cuba except the steam train wasn't working. Also a boat trip to a local island and snorkelling over reef and wreck.
We took the local bus down to Sol Cayo Coco Wow how it has improved since 2005
Sad that both Villa Cojimar and Iberostar Daiquir were both shut for repairs we would have liked to see inside both.
Bonus Visitors
There were regular visits from ";Craft Traders"; offering a large variety of goods as well as a Cigar ";Roller";
Conclusions
Needs a few repairs, beach could be improved, but very much a weddings hotel well suited to those who enjoy Stag and Hen Parties at Blackpool.

the flights were good long but good
first off we arrived on our coach to be greeted with sluchy drinks(just what we needed) and the entertainment staff were singing and dancing, this was all a bit wierd but i liked it ha!
our room was top notch, overlooking the sea it was huge with a massive super king size bed and hammock on the balcony,we loved it,air con was a dream.
the food was a shock at first but my partner who is very fussy ended up loving it,he was eating chicken breasts and pork chops cooked in front of him on a hot plate, really great,i was having the best omlettes in the morning again cooked in front of me with my choice of fillings, great.
bear in mind though this is cuba you can not expect the standard of food you might get in spain, this is a third world country they do there very very best with what they have(hence the price)
the holiday itself was great
a must is
colourful cuba really great made our holiday(be prepared to see alot of poverty though)

baga the nature resort, really good fun for the morning
all in all this is a great resort, the night life is not up to much but to be honest its so hot you cant be bothered anyway ha!
please be aware this is cuba its not high end luxery to most of us but it is to them so have respect.the pool is amazing and the activities are great

We just arrived back from the best holiday that we have ever had.
before reaching our destination i was worried that my 15 year old twin boys may get bored on this holiday,as it worked out there was so much for them to do we hardly seen them for the two weeks we were there,as for my 8 year old daughter she just loved it,she apeared in some of the entertainment in the evenings.
The beach was out of this world, crystal clear waters and lily white sand, you can walk out a fair distance and the water is still only waist height, the marine life is amazing with scholes of small fish and needle fish just swimming around you,you can if you please take some bread with you and feed them.
The pool area is very nice two, very child friendly with plenty of sun loungers.
The staff at the hotel are so nice and friendly they just go out of there way to try and make your stay there a rememrable one.
The food was the best that we have experienced whilst on holiday .ie.something for every one.
Cuba is a very poor country and they do relay on the guests in the hotel to boost ther income(tips) as they dont earn a great deal.
If you are only thinking about going here my advise to you would be stop thinking and go and book up,as this truly is paradise.

Arrived at Melia Cayo Guillermo on 1st June 2006 and looked like paradise. Weather was very good (we only had one day where it rained constantly). The people are very friendly and two of our party had stayed at the same hotel three previous years so they were on first name terms with a lot of the staff.
The restaurant manager looked after us - as soon as he saw our friends he got a special table laid for us with champagne and we were given that same table at every mealtime.
Two of the waiters took us to their home town for their yearly carnival which was an eye-opener because of how poor these people actually are. If you do go to the local towns please make sure that you travel with one of the locals otherwise you could feel quite threatened.
They really appreciate any presents that you can give them - tights, pens, earring, t-shirts, old trainers etc.
The entertainment staff are really friendly - Jimmy organises beach games and pool volley ball and is a real character. The dancers are really friendly too.The only thing that put a dampener on our holiday was that five out of the six people in our party were taken ill with tummy upset. I would be careful with buffet food and not eat anything that you think may have been left for a while. Also, the air conditioning wasn't working too well when we arrived so it was very hot in the restaurants and in our rooms.
We had a five hour delay from Manchester to Cuba at the beginning and the flight out was much better than the flight back. We were only offered one drink on the flight home and the flight attendants were very abrupt and unfriendly.
I would recommend this holiday to anyone and would go again perhaps in a few years time.

We arrived at the hotel at the start of June which is the begining of the rainy season, this type of weather is excellent for the mosquito's. On the first night my sister in law got 16 bites (welcome to Cuba.) We did use repelant but it did not work.
The next day was lovely the beach was like paradise and the rooms were clean and tidy. We had a lovely few days drinking the cocktails and lemonade until we all got ill with upset stomach's which lasted the entire two weeks. We could not book any trips as we did not want to be to far away from the toliet.(you will need to pack your running shoes, thank god for imodium) The Food was average - this included bugs and birds that would regularly be in contact with your food.
The evening entertainment was good, sill very warm and moquito ridden. We saw loads of crabs, but they were not a problem and it was nice to see them. I do think that people going to this hotel need to be advised thatI personnally would not rate this as a four star, having visted various island in the carribean. Someone needs to investigate the reasons as to why we were all ill as we spoke to a number of other holiday makers who were also runing to the toliet. The drinks that are served from the bars are lemonade, coke etc, these were all mixed with their own water using a pub like syrup system. We were told that it was ok to drink as their water ran through filters. We are sure this is why we were all ill. We flew home yesterday and we are still suffering.
However we would never go back to Cuba. You do not expect to pay good money and waste two precious weeks hols to be ill.

Overall Hotel Rating:
We visited Cayo Guillermo on 30th April for an 8 day holiday. As we were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary we upgraded the flights to premium economy, flying out with Thomas Cook and returning to the UK with First Choice, introducing their new Star Class Premier Service. At first my husband thought this was a waste of money. The Thomas Cook service had 49 seats in premium and offered extra leg room, and not much else. When we spoke to other people after the flight they were all complaining how cramped the seats were in economy and how they didn't have enough pillows or blankets for everyone. The food was just OK, and we only had 2 drink services on a 9 hour flight.
On arrival at the airport there was a slight delay in clearing customs and we changed some money into convertible Cuban peso's and then found our coach for the 45 minute journey to Cayo Guillermo. We arrived at the hotel and were checked in relatively quickly and shown to our room. We had a room in Block 1, which was superb and close to all amenities and yet very quiet. The rooms were a good size, clean and tidy and had fantastic air conditioning and a stocked fridge with water, beer and soft drinks. We went for a walk around the mature grounds and onto the beach. Loads of hammocks everywhere. The beach was spotless and the tide was out and it was like heaven on earth. The sand was like talcum powder and the sea was beautiful and turquoise. The clean up the seaweed regularly. We walked down the pier to the end and thought what a wonderful resort we had chosen. Managed to stay up until 11 pm Cuban time and slept really well.
We soon found our way around the buffet restaurant for breakfast, the food was wonderful, so much choice and something for everyone. We had omelettes of our choice made whilst we waited. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Lunch was another eating extravaganza, the wine glasses were never empty, and the same again for dinner. I must admit I had gone with an open mind as I had read some pretty bad reviews about the food but I honestly loved every single meal I had and never faulted anything. We also ate in the two A la carte restaurants, again these were superb.
We had our welcome meeting with the First Choice Rep the following morning (Luciano). He was fantastic, rather nice looking too! He told us about the island and things about Cuba in general and then recommended a few excursions for us. There were only 12 of us in our group and between us all managed to take in all of the trips. We chose the day trip to Havana and our flight left at 7.30 am so it was rather an early start and we should have returned to the hotel around 8 pm that night but due to unforeseen circumstances we didn't get back until 1 am. The aircraft's safety policy was rather non-existent. The hotel staff offered to make us something to eat, but we were fine. After complaining about the problem to Luciano the following morning he offered us suitable compensation without hesitation and we accepted two VIP lounge vouchers for our return journey at Cayo Coco airport. Whilst this was really good, lovely and cool and free food and drinks, and a choice to board the aircraft first or last, I wouldn't have chosen to pay 40 peso's for this, but did enjoy it. Our Rep attended the hotel everyday and was very friendly and chatty and very, very informative and helpful.
The hotel was spotless, always clean and the gardens exceptionally well maintained. The pool area was lovely and clean and had a good poolside bar. We soon learnt about the tipping technique, we left peso's in the restaurant and took small gifts for the cleaners and gardeners and some waiters we got to know. They were so appreciative of them. We took crayons, hair accessories, toys. My husband was asked for his sunglasses and tee shirt. We left lots of bits and pieces we couldn't be bothered to take home with us.
The hotel has its own Dive Centre and my husband had 3 wonderful dives.
All in all I could not fault one thing about this holiday it was absolutely perfect and finished off with a fabulous journey home with First Choice whose Star Class Premier Service was first class. Pre take off drink (didn't get one with Thomas Cook), food served on china plates and a fantastic 5 course meal, and the crew came round taking our drinks orders rather than trundle around with a trolley. The in flight service was the best I have ever seen on other aircrafts, stop/start/pause videos on demand. Really nice thick blankets and comfy pillows and larger seats, could not recommend this airline enough. It was excellent. Whilst waiting for our baggage at Manchester airport all the other passengers were singing the praises of First Choice airlines too. Don't hesitate, book the holiday and enjoy it. We met some wonderful people and had the most fantastic time ever. We will certainly be returning it was excellent value for money.

Overall Hotel Rating:
we went to the sol cayo guillermo for our honeymoon. We have never been to an all nclusive resort before and so have nothing to mark the standards against but we were not disapointed. The hotel is beautifully laid out in colourful little bungalows. we had a room upgradeand our room was very spacious and clean with a hammock and very powerful shower. It was only a few minutes to the pool and reception.
The beach is absolutely amazing easily the best beach we have ever seen. i think we were lucky with the weather as there was only a slight breeze and the sea was calm warm and very shallow. the water is crystal clear and a lovely green blue colour. We spent most of our time here as the pool, although nice, gets a bit hot. There were always plently of loungers at both.
The other highlight was the overnight trip to Havanna, well worth the money. the hotel you stay at is lovely and the Tropicana club is great fun as is the market. The only downside was the flight back to Cayo coco was six hours late although thei cannot be helped.
The tour guide was great and gave us a insight into cuban culture which I don't think you would get at the hotel.
The beach bar at the hotel was good fun with good cocktails and company.
the main negative points were the food which is not awful but quite repetative. i was getting a bit bored by the end of the fortnight although you can always get fresh salad, fish and bread . I was also ill for 24 hours although i think this was a bug rather than the food unfortunately I missed the speedboat trip which supposed to be really fantastic.
Also the mosquitos are a nightmare, i developed an allergic reaction and had to go to the hotel doctor which cost £30. take repellent jungle formula (the stuff they sell in the hotlel shop also seemed effective.)
In terms of tips some people from other hotels were saying that they were given poor service if they did not tip this was not thease at the sol. tips were appreciated greatly but the staff are really very friendly genuine people.
Overall this holiday was fantastic, I would go back to cuba although I'm not sure I'm a massive fan of all inclusive. the hotel is good and very good value and worth all the negatives just for the beach and the people.
The other thing I would say is that as the season tails off the standard of food seems to as well. we went 28th April - 10th May and the second week had much less variety than the first.

Have just returned from our third holiday at this resort.
We found the staff to be friendly but efficient. Any problems were sorted out within hours of being reported. Unless you report problems how can the hotel put them right.
Food was good and made use of the various restraunts when applicable.
Accommodation could not have been better. The resort seems to improve year on year.
Entertainment was good but please remember the entertainment team work from 10.00 a.m. till 1.00 p.m. and have at least an hours travel each way to and from work each day but are still good fun at the end of the day.
reception staff were very efficient both with checkin and out and any queries we had during our stay.
We travelled in Premium Cabin and the crew were pleasant and efficient on both legs. Unfortunately on the return flight we had to land at Halifax Nova scotia because of a medical emergency and the flight crew were very concerned about the passenger and rightly so. I only hope that if I take ill on a plane they look after me as that crew did. We were now over 2 hours late yet the crew worked all through the night and nothing was too much trouble for them.
