Hotel and facilities are "tired" and in need of serious investment if it is to genuinely warrant a 4 star status. Room air conditioner was good but room itself was in need of "sprucing up" and needed additional storage space e.g. drawers for clothes. Evening entertainment varied from the quite good (two nights) to mostly pretty dire; fashion shows were not our idea of fun. Service at the bars again was variable and would benefit from some self service facilities to cater for those that simply wanted soft drinks/water etc rather than queue for tens of minutes for cocktails to be prepared. Food was adequate most evenings but hotel was not resourced to handle a huge influx of locals over the weekend of a Cuban public hliday.

Within minutes we were checked in, given our all inclusive bands plus a glass champagne - all done with a smile. The accommodation was lovely and roomy and cleaned everyday during our 14 night stay. The food was great and whilst the main buffet could occasionally be boring - there was always fresh steak, chicken, pork, king prawns, fish stir-fry, pizza etc that could be freshly cooked to your liking. There are 4 a la carte restaurants, 3 of which can be used free of charge 3 times a week. NB long trousers must be worn. Pool is lovely and clean and the animation team work hard throughout the day to entertain people. The evening entertainment is good, especially as it is so hard to please people of all ages and from different countries. The water ballet and the shows that were put on were really great. All the staff from the cleaners, bar staff, animation team, gardeners, maintenance men etc all work extremely hard and very long hours. There is a night club, well away from the accommodation, that my son managed to attend every night and a 24 hour snack bar for anyone with the munchies after leaving there. There is a gorgeous beach with pedaloes, wind surfing, kyaks etc all free to use. There is also a free bar and snack bar available on the beach and the Cuban restaurant is open for lunch with a full menu and waitress service only 2 minutes from the beach. This hotel has everything to offer families, young couples, older couples (all flat for walking) and even my 18 year old son - although I wouldn't recommend it for an "all boys / girls" holiday for youngsters. I would certainly recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Poor

This hotel should not be sold as a 4 star. It is very dated with mold in bathroom, poorly fitting doors, lumpy pillows, ripped and stained top cover on bed, rusty fridge, poor lock on patio door and overall not 4 star standard. Food is disgusting cold, covered in flies and birds. Dining and bar areas of poor repair including chipped crockery, lack of glasses and dirty table clothes and seat covers. The pool area is poor with broken plastic grate around pool, broken sunbeds, and plastic cups not cleared up. On the last day of our 2 week holiday the water in the pool was green and you could not see the bottom due to no cleaning chemicals being available. Entertainment was also poor both day time and evenings. All in all a very disappointing holiday for the money will not be returning ever.

Hotel was large and very friendly, arrival good but you have to wait for a golf buggy to be free to get your luggage to your room, we never waited and made our own way to our room because we were getting eaten alive by mozzies and there was a queue way to long to wait. The room was cleaned daily, but not very well. they leave a sachet of coffee a day if you are lucky but they often forget to leave whitener. the food is not very good as it is covered in flies and birds, the birds sit on one dish to eat the dish next to it and they pooh over the food, discusting. The good food comes from going to the japanese restraunt and italian. The cuban one, not good, snack bar limited but ok. The beach is lovely.

The hotel is great for a really relaxing holiday, the hotel staff are so friendly, the fresh food stations in the buffet were the tops, the chefs at the pizza and pasta station were just awesome, we actually preferred these to the ala carte restaurants. The beach is very nice but does get very busy, no surprise really,if you want sunbeds get up early, all the beds are gone by 10am. I can not understand how some people fail to enjoy this hotel,we have stayed in newer 4 and 5 star hotels but not enjoyed as much, hey some people would moan if they stayed in paradise.

"Fabulous Holiday at Playa Costa Verde"

Although some of the fabric of the buildings was looking a little bit tired, the staff more than make up for it with their efforts to ensure that you have everything you could possibly need. Any queries were dealt with immediately and very efficiently. The staff were all very friendly and eager to help. The facilities were very good - the only slight problem was the number of sunbeds on the beach as due to the time of year the hotel was full and many guests were reserving large numbers of sunbeds in one go, often leaving them only used by towels for most of the day! But the beach itself was extremely clean and beautiful. Overall a lovely place to stay.

Great hotel with friendly staff and big rooms, very quiet and close to a lovely beach. However the food was really poor, apart from the steakhouse and japanese restaurant, which would put us off going again.

"Lovely hotel, isolated location "

The transfer from Holguin to the Playa Costa Verde was good, no problems. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a cocktail and speedily checked in. A little motorised trolly then took us and our luggage to our room which was enormous.

The food at the main buffet restaurant is good and there is fresh meat , fish, omelettes, pasta and pizza cooked on the spot for you, if you want this. If you cant be bothered to wait, there is a large selection of fish, meat, vegetables, eggs, etc for you to choose from. You can book into the speciality restaurants, but they are a bit limited for vegetarians, as they have a set menu. You will however be able to ask the guy who books you into the restaurant, to order some tofu or special vegetables of your choice for the "Japanese" cook for you.

The pool area is large and there are always around 50+empty deckchairs available at any time of the day, so no need to reserve any. If you want a deckchair in the front row at the beach, however, you must get there by 8am,or take deckchairs further back. There is a guy who brings you your deckchair to the spot you want. The snorkeling at the beach is lovely, you can just walk into the water to about waist deep, go to some rocks, throw a bit of banana into the water and watch the fish arrive.

There is nothing to do in the immediate area of the hotel, the nearest village is 12km away and there is nothing much there, apart from the old steam locomotives. If you walk out of the hotel to the left and turn right at the Hotel Blau you will see some small houses where some people live, but this is not more than a hamlet.

"Another Great Holiday In Cuba"

Overall Hotel Rating:

This is the third year we have stayed at the Playa Costa Verde and we have enjoyed each year. this year we have seen vast improvements in the gardens and grounds after the hurricane had passed through in 2007. The pool always has spare sunbeds. The main attraction of this hotel is the friendliness of the staff from cleaners to managers they are always willing to help you and always great you with a smile. Nothing is too difficult. We did have some noisey naighbors one night. They moved to another part of the hotel the next day so it wasnt too bad. There are four resturants and a large Buffet dinning area. The Buffet food is excellent. I preferred the Cuban and Japaneese resturants, these need to be booked in advance.

Lovely hotel on a bay with 2 other hotels. I would say our hotel had everything needed for a quiet relaxing holiday. Only thing lacking was air conditioning in main areas like the bar and buffet restaurant, both open to the elements and natute and very lovely, but also very hot and uncomfortable. This pair of young old girls took cocktails back to the room each night to cool down. Rooms are very spacious and nicely decorated, mini bar stocked daily( most days ). Shower to die for! Nice a'la carte restuarants to visit. Our only shock was the amount of crabs there were ground floor rooms had to share patios with them and they are huge and scary! maybe when we went it was breeding season. Harmless tho!Swimming pools are lovely and well maintained. Evening entertainment bit poor water ballet very nice tho. Trips to recomend are cuban life and dolphin swim, half day trip to dolphins good value at 79 peso bout £60, best day ever.Mossies will get ya so take strong repellant as u cant buy much of anything. Cheap holiday when there as no shops to buy from apart from 1 on site, expensive and not much going on, remember tis poor country. Reps very helpful and friendly. Overall we had a fab holiday and if it wasn't fro the 10 hour flighyt we d go again.

Rooms modest. Food reasonalble. Staff nice and helpfull . everyone in the pool caught cold sores never saw anyone doing water quality checks at all just the man pouring the white granules in ! Mosquitos were a bit of a BUG bear but when you had lost all your flesh they BUZZED off . we saw Spiders ,Crabs ,Lizards and big Toads and that was buy or in our room !! Infact the only real negative was the people in the shop the women were rude in there own language about customers if you did not buy the cigars they wanted you to buy! They also regularly had there male friends in who were rude about the customers one chap got called a stupid giant they were ignorant enough to belive no one else could speak there language was quite funny when the chap spoke to the assistant in her own language when paying and she poo'ed herself . Ahh fun fun fun oh and watch out for there crisps there all about £2.50 - £3.50 a pack they are all stale and taste like C.R.A.P ! the shop is far to over priced as you would expect anyway so stay away from the shop and your holiday should be ok !
