"Villa Caribe Club Cojimar review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
i liked this hotel. it was basic but its cuba. staff are great in the bars. it not easy to get out and about. you really got do it threw your rep. its miles away from shops ect. but there is a couple on site.the beach is almost deserted which is good if you aint confident showing your fat bits.we went june and there was a prob with mosquitos so be prepared. hotel kept ontop by spraying this really did help. its a sit on the beach do nothing place. crabs in sea though. we booked late deal and got a beach bungalow. gardens are lovely. we will go back. the late deal we got was worth what we paid 781 for two for 2 weeks. whats to complain about. we loved it

"Villa Caribe Club Cojimar review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The hotel, we were told, is one of the oldest on the coral reef peninsula, having been constructed approx 15-20 years ago, and unfortunately, you can tell. Some two story apartment blocks are to be remodernised this year (06/07) and they have already done so to the beach fronted dwellings; but the pathways are crumbling and the picturesque garden areas are overgrown so much that if you are over 5' high you stoop over to miss branches/ undergrowth etc, as you stumble back from the pool/ bar/disco etc, with either your towels, books or drinks!!!!
However, this said, it was the only thing that disappointed me, as I would willingly visit the same resort again. The food, though mostly salad based, is varied and each night offers new delicacies. And a purpose built restaurant for Pasta and one for Cuban food also are available to visit once a week (at each). As the peninsula is approximately a 45 mins drive (12 miles) from the mainland, if you do desire to see any Cuban life it is necessary to take a couple of trips out by coach and guide, as the peninsula is purely inhabited by hotels and the only locals are the ones working in the hotels. Trip to swim with the dolphins (Cien Fuegos) is worthwhile, and two day trip to Havana (by air 1hour) also- visiting the Tropicana Show whilst there.
As it is on a coral reef, it is shallow (waist height) for over 1000 yards out to sea, and the white sands and light blue/green sea is beautiful. At this tiem of year you will get rain!! But although it pours down, sometimes daily, it quickly dries up due to an average temp 35C.
The staff are friendly and as the local average wage is 25 CUC(Convertible Cuban Pesos) about 15 pounds sterling, per month, it is good to tip the maid/ bar tenders/waiters etc if you feel so inclined.
BE AWARE that you cannot take Cuban pesos (CUC) into the country, and that they are different to the local Cuban Peso that is used by the populace to purchase their food. (if offered a Peso as change...do not accept it if it has a picture of a face eg Che Guavara etc, on the note). And you need to change some money asnd keep it safe for your exit from the country as, at the airport, a tax of 25 CUC per person is levied.
