"Great Holiday !"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just got back (22nd June 2010) - great time - we have two kids 8 yr old boy and 4 yr old girl. Hotel and grounds is inbelievably clean staff constantly cleaning grounds pools etc - staff all friendly. Entertainment is amateurish (gone on long haul before so we expected this) however the team work very hard and are all really friendly. All holidaymakers (mainly British and American) say good morning and let on to you the whole hotel and restaurant is welcoming - even when you are WHITE and new ! you still feel you belong from your first day ! Food is excellent with lots of choice and great service - you're never waiting for a drink - staff are very attentive. . Only thing I will say is that the first room we were allocated was small and dare I say a little shabby ! I spoke to reception who were great and we got a much better bigger room - some rooms are newly refurbished - some aren't. Air con in our room was oustanding ! Like walking into a freezer and we needed it as it was in the 90s at 8am in the morning !! Take good mozzie protector - the one I used and other holidayers used just didnt work I got bitten quite a lot. I loved this hotel and would definitely go back

"Good Hotel"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Very Nice Entrance and Foyer. Pleasant hard working staff always cleaning.Backs onto good beach with colourful fish to be found right off shore. Was quiet when we were there so no problem getting a sunlounger or umbrella.Nice pool with daytime activities and hardworking Activities Staff.Restaurants are clean with ample food, there should be something to suit everyone. Thought food was okay not wonderful, but what you would expect from a 3-4* hotel. Al A Cartes were again fine not wonderful. Our favourite was Octopus least favourite was Ocean Grill.Bars were fine our favourite was Tiki Bar at quiet pool.Beer was weak, spirits drinkable & I found white wine more pleasant than red. Our room was at quiet pool, lovely room very comfortable bed, very hard-working maid.Though PLEASE pay for safe & lock all valuables away, as people had items stolen and police were not interested.Alot of repeat customers Canadian & British, very friendly atmosphere. Enjoyed our holiday, though BEWARE had my expensive straighteners taken out of my hand luggage along with my umbrella and thrown in bin, very intimidating atmosphere, and had to move on without them!Would return to this Hotel

"Definetely Excellente"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This has been my 3rd time back to the Gran Ventana Resort and would definetely go back again. The staff are the most friendliest people, they make your holiday worthwhile. The hotel complex is very close to the beach which is great if you decide midday to go from the poolside area to the beach for a while, just a short stroll. Unfortunately, our visit in the 1st 2 weeks of January were very wet. This is not normally the case, even the locals were be-wildered by the amount of rainfall. We had 4 days in total of sunshine out of 14, ive never known it as bad compared to previous visits. The good thing about the rain is that you can go to the local shopping plaza which is a 3 minute walk from the hotel and shop for local goods. The hotel food is of very high quality standards. A wide choice every day ranging from seafood to steak dishes. Lots of choice and tastes good too.

"Gran Ventana"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Hotel was very nice and staff were more than helpful. Would recommend updating the decor in the bedrooms. Also as I am a smoker, comfy chairs for outside the entertainment area would be nice as you can't smoke inside. The entertainment team were fantastic especially Manny very nice guy. The hotel staff couldn't help you enough. Maids came into your room every day to change bedding and towels. Superb golden beach. The lady on the beach who does nails, pedicures etc, was fantastic, she done my nails and my daughter's nails for new years eve, would definitely recommend you use her. Booked trip with rep Jordan, very nice and helpful again, went on safari trip, junior very informative and helpful again would recommend this trip. Finally New Years Eve Gala Meal was out of this world very impressed with meal and afterwards the band was fantastic and brought in the New Year with a glass of champagne with family. Thoroughly enjoyed this holiday and will definitely be going back in the future.

"Not Bad"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Clean, good staff but could do with some degree of updating. Hotel in a complex with other similar hotels and there is very limited shopping (also pricey) and bars. Some distance from Purto Plata, although there's not much there either.

"Wonderful Honeymoon"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We stayed here for 2 weeks in June 2009 and I cant fault this hotel.
On arrival we were given free cocktails as we waited to check in and were upgraded to a junior suite as we were on honeymoon which was hugh. We were staying in the Beata block at the quiet pool and loved the location - no noise at night at all and had no problem sleeping.
the hotel is right on the beach which was lovely and clean.
the restaurants were all lovely, and the buffet had so much choice there was always something for everyone. Each night there was a choice from about 5 differnt cooked meats as well as pizza's burgers chips etc but I would recommend thrying the local dishes as they were amazing.
Overall I would recommend this hotel but if you want a quiet holiday ask to stay at the quiet pool as there can be quite alot of kids at the main pool and the animation team can get a bit annoying.

"lovely holiday"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Loved this hotel we travelled in a group of eleven, aged from 6yrs to 41yrs and we all enjoyed this hotel. cleaners worked long hours to keep the rooms and the hotel clean, the food in the all inclusive was excellent, a great choice for everyone. However the nightime entertainment is not up to much apart from the michael jackson night is a must, but i wouldn't let that stop me from going again. The hotel is right on the beach which is lovely golden soft sand and there is plenty of water sports to choose from

"lovely hotel"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We stayed for two weeks at the Gran Ventana all inclusive. We were a bit apprehensive after reading some of the bad review on here but we had a wonderful time.
Rooms: We were lucky and got a nice quiet room facing the wedding gazebo. I think if you are facing the pool it could get very noisy. The room was spacious and kept very clean. The only complaints we had were the bedding smelt musty even when changed and out clothes tended to get damp due to air conditioning. Also our floor became very wet and I slipped over. They came to look straight away and said it was the air conditioning which it wasn’t as it hadn’t been on. However they did bring us some carpets to put over it. I felt there wasn’t enough lightening in the room but I tend to find that anyway abroad. Also the safety deposit box was in the wardrobe facing sideward’s and there was no light so you had to feel around in it.
Food: The food was excellent esp the buffet restaurant. They had a few dishes which were on every night and also a lot that were changed. There were chefs cooking fresh meals and there was always a roast meat on. There are 3 al a carte restaurants which were also very nice! You can book once a week on each.
Entertainment: We didn't do any of the entertainment provided in the day. At night it was kid’s things up until 9:30 by which time we were so bored we just went to our room. They have a show at 9:30 which we didn't watch.
Staff: Staff were always very friendly and accommodating. Hotel in general: The hotel was very clean and was always being cleaned every day. We didn’t use the pool as we like to go on the beach, but the pool seemed very crowded and you have to get up very early to get a sun bed by the pool. The beach was lovely and the sea was clean. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would defiantly go back!

"Absolutely Brilliant 3 week holiday"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Anyone with a bad word to say about this hotel is lying! We had 4 solid days of thunder and rain......that was ok because we found things to do! The entertainment team were incredible and never stopped, granted it was a little repetitive but excellent nontheless. Food was ok, but again, it is all about what you make of a holiday. We would go back in a heartbeat.

"PUT YOU,RE ALARM ON 4 A SUNBED!!!!"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Arrived after no hassle flight. room changed without any problem to be nearer friends, stayed in le catolina block, facing poolbar.Room comfortable with 2 double beds changed daily if wanted, had unpaid guests for few nights (BIG COCKROACHES) friends opposite had crabs and vile smelling sewrage when drains blocked.Meals were lovely and catered for everyones taste. One negative point is sunbed situation,if you,re not in a large group or not up before 6am you,ve got nooooooo chance ov a bed, towels are on beds from 6 but people dont actually appear until lunchtime despite management not allowing this to happen.Did,nt spoil my holiday as i preffered beach, but it could be a problem if you had children.Entertainment staff worked very hard but this does need improving, however some people are VERY difficult to please.Dominican Pesos seem to go further than UK Dollars so i would take these in future.Went on few trips with guy off beach selling horserididng, would srongly recommend you go with rep as trips/transport very dangerous.Weather was red hot would recommend high factor suncream as breeze on beach caused us some burning. All in all had a lovey time and my 13 year old boy loved it,would return again but in a bigger group to TRY and get a sunbed.

"gran ventana"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The hotel was lovely, never encountered any problems while we was there. The only thing i would say is the rooms are a little dated and in need of modernising however they are cleaned daily to a high standard. The food was very good have been to many all inclusives and this has to be one of the best for choice and quality. We visited two of the a la carte restaurants and found the 'octopus' to be excellent. The weather was very much hit and miss, unfortunately we had daily rain storms but when the sun did come out, boy was it hot!

"Fantastic hotel!"
Overall Hotel Rating:
I have just come back from this hotel and spent a wonderful two weeks there! Im only 18 but throughly enjoyed it :) i can honestly say its the best holiday iv'e ever had and the best hotel that i have ever stayed in. The staff are lovely and they are always constantly trying to please you. The animacion team are fantasic, especially sexi face :) and they are the friendliest bunch of boys that iv'e met. The dominican people as a whole are the friendliest people in the world and make you feel so at home. The food is brilliant and with four different restaurants you will never get bored with the selection. This hotel is suitable for couples, families and couples with young children as its very safe and the kids club is brilliant. I loved this hotel so much that im going back in july for 2 weeks and then in October for 3 weeks. I would highly reccommend this hotel as its great value for money.
