"Falcon Cottages review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
They say things look better in the dark, well we arrived in the dark and were unimpressed to say the least, having gone virtually through the building suppliers yard to get to the entrance!
The hotel consists of 4 buildings (supposedly the cottages) with 4 to 8 very basic rooms, with Bathrooms to each, no bath but showers (usually cold). The Cottage exteriors are pleasant enough; the rooms though, were weathered and battered. They were clean, as was the very small, basic, open air, bar restaurant. Maid service was on a daily basis, and included fresh (but very worn) towels and (the most dated) bedding changes.
The Pool looked as though it needs a good clean, but a fresh paint job is all it requires. However do not use the steps, they're dangerously insecure.
The restaurant service was the slowest of all those we visited (over an hour for food and 20 mins at least for hot water), but the food was worth the wait. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating, with one particular guy, named 16(known to every Jamaican we spoke to) being very obliging as a taxi driver (though he wasn't cheap).
He recommended a few good restaurants, these were fairly basic, but good value for money, e.g. Sips and Bites, Juicy Jays and Sweet Spice. LTS food was awful (not 16's recommendation), avoid eating there, but pleasant enough for a drink, good quick service and lovely staff. There are many more much nicer places but at much higher prices e.g. Kumya! You must go to Ricks Cafe, and YS falls, they were the most picturess places we visited, gorgeous, major investments showed!
Despite it being our second visit to Jamaica and staying in Ocho Reus the first time, Negrill was not our cup of tea, lots of beggars, and mithering, we felt vulnerable. Our Jamaican friend, born and bread in Jamaica, now and living in England even felt vulnerable, even within our group of 6. After the first night no way did we again consider going out at night, other than to dine, driven by 16.
After dining, we would return to our hotel were entertainment was none existent. Dominoes came in very handy to pass the very, very humid evenings away, in the company of other guests, the stinging mossies and the biting ants (despite dowsing ourselves with repellent). Retiring to our very basic, air-conditioned (rented for an additional £40) rooms was actually very inviting! We might not have been impressed with the accommodation or Negrill, but in all said and done we made the most of our holiday. We relaxed, had fun, ventured all over and broadened our cultural and palatable experience, with little credit to Falcon Cottages of which we would be reluctant to recommend.
