"Harmony Suites review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Harmony Suites excellent accomodation for price, friendly staff, quiet place, no kids. Virgin flights, staff and organisation excellent. We paid for the luxury suite which was on the marina waterfront with 4 poster and Jacuzzi which we only used twice in 3 weeks. In hindsight the next level of suite down would have been better as it would have been beside the pool and had full cooking facilities though the waterfront does have more privacy. There is no real hotel bar you have to use the bar in the Edge restaurant which is on the waterfront within the hotel complex. We only ate there once, very good food but overly complex and definately very pricy.
The hotel is only 50 yards from the main strip - Redoubt Ave which has all the bars and restaurants. Best breakfast around was the Cats Whiskers pub. Most of the retaurants were very good, Castaways was our favourite for dinner and a few drinks but we also had excellent food at Buzzs (best lobster around), Razmatz(Indian) Memories of Hong Kong (Chinese) Big Chef best steak around - though drinks were expensive there.
Trips we thought were good were the shopping tour, the all day Virgin catamaran trip. Wouldn't go on the fish friday trip as they try to overcharge for Lobster -eat it at Buzzs - better value and surroundings. Sunset cruise on the pirate ship is ok but it is only 2 -3 hrs, forget the food. Very little entertainment on at night so suggest The Cats Whiskers where H and Mel will make you welcome for a few drinks before moving on to a restaurant. We had several tropical storms and it was in the low 90s every day -a bit too hot for us, if returning we would go December - April.
Overall prices a bit expensive for what you get, expect to pay at least £35 per couple per night for dinner, double if you go to some. St lucians were friendly, well spoken and no beggars or timeshare touts around. An expensive but relaxing holiday though we wouldn't return unless the exchange rate was better or the prices came down

The Harmony Suites is a lovely, relaxing hotel. The pool is really nice and was very quiet while we was there. The beach is really close and was nice.
The hotel was kept very clean and was cleaned out every day. The Carribean way of life is definately evident on St Lucia, everything is wonderfully relaxed (don't go out too hungry though!)
There were quite a few places to eat but we ran out by the end of the holiday! Our favourite restaurant was the red snapper in Rodney Bay. You must go on the sunset cruise as the island looked really pretty from the boat.
It was very hot and humid too so take high factor suncream and mosquito spray as they come out in force at night!

Overall Hotel Rating:
Harmony Suites was an ideal place to stay as it was in the best location. The restaurants were located next to the hotel, the beach was across the road and the hotel was set off the main road so no traffic noise could be heard.
The apartments themselves were fantastic; we had a king-size bed with en-suite bathroom and separate toilet (ideal when your partner is hogging the bathroom and you want to use the loo.) In the living room we had a sofa and two chairs with a table, also there was cooking facilities which we only used for making sandwiches if we were by the pool and we just popped in as the pool was about 30 meters away. Also there is a fridge, which we stocked up with drinks from the supermarket, which was about a 5-10 minute walk away. This was good considering we were only Room only!
The weather was fantastic, the food in resort was fantastic with loads of choice, the only place I didn't like was the Italian restaurant as it wasn't very good value for money. The best two places in my opinion were the Buzz restaurant (www buzzstlucia com) sample the B52 Cheesecake it is one of the best cheesecakes I have tasted. Another top restaurant is the Big Chef Steakhouse where you can take on the challenge of eating a 32oz steak with chips and salad. I did and completed the challenge and I have my certificate on the wall of the restaurant. (The prize was a free steak meal later in my holiday which a had on the final evening in St Lucia.)
If you try the West Indian Pepperpot in one of the restaurants don't do it the day before a trip as you may be on the loo a couple of hours the next morning. The actual dish is really nice but it did have some after effects and I am used to eating loads of hot and spicy food.
The hotel restaurant is also very good which is called Mortar and Pestle that is a waterfront restaurant and bar with entertainment on an evening, it serves Caribbean and European-style cuisine served. Open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I recommend the chicken or steak wraps for a snack or lunch.
If you do not want to go out on an evening and are feeling hungry there is a Dominos Pizza down the road that delivers to your room.
If you want to go on a trip I recommend the catamaran day it is a great way to relax, yet see the island dreaming and cruising aboard this lovely catamaran that sails along the picturesque west coast of the island, onto Soufriere, home of the majestic Pitons.
In Soufriere a coach tour will take you to visit the Diamond Waterfalls, the beautiful botanical gardens and the Sulphur Springs/ Volcano before enjoying a sumptuous Creole lunch.
The return part of the trip includes a stop for swimming, with fun and games aboard. There is a sail through beautiful Marigot Bay before returning to dock. Complimentary rum punch and sodas are served throughout which is great sitting in the sun getting a great tan.
We also went on a shopping trip but that a more woman thing and we were not very impressed.
The beach is very clean with white sand and beautiful water, the only bad thing is the beach sellers but a polite no thank you or a shake of the head or closing your eyes when sun bathing soon sends them on the way.
The only bad things about St Lucia were being hassled, as it is a bit intimidating when the men come up to you to talk as t always ends up with them trying to sell you something. If any of them ask you if you like music just say no as I ended up buying a tape of a bloke claiming he was Bob Marley of St Lucia and got quite aggressive when we tried to walk off. I like to walk around when I am on holiday by myself but I didn't dare in St Lucia, if you want to go further than the supermarket at the end of Rodney bay just hire a car. This is because if try to go the KFC on the corner you may not get back. This is were the locals all hang out and we turned the corner and every single local looked up at us and we could tell we should not be in that area. Another thing I didn't like was the long transfer, but you did get to see how the Island really was - Very Poor!
The flights were with BWIA and they were great, lots of leg room and a lot of empty seats so we had 4 seats for the two of u and we had plenty of food and drinks.
We would go back again and we would only stop at the Harmony Suits as it gives you more freedom, nice rooms, quite complex with peaceful surroundings with no young kids splashing in the pool. Also the hotel has everything you need and located in the best place on the island which is RODNEY BAY.

We stayed in the Harmony Suites in St Lucia.
The flight with BWIA was good. The taxi however to the resort in the north of the island was a little scary and an eye opener. There is some poverty on the island on the way up!
The appartments were nice and clean and the staff could not have been friendlier.
Reduit beach is all you expect in the Caribean. Warm clean azure sea, palm trees and sun.
Watch out though for the beach opportunists who will try to sell you a bargin. Check this out in the shops first! We got ripped off.
We were there for 2 weeks in April 2004 while the cricket was on. The weather was mostly sunny and hot. I was fair skinned and burnt when I changed down from factor 30 - 20 in the 2nd week!!!! Not badly but the sun is a good deal stronger!
Spinnakers on the beach front is a great restuarant and worth a visit in Rodney Bay.
The sun set cruise was a good trip and worth the money. We got good photos and plenty of rum punch and champagne all on a romantic sailing ship!
Rodney Bay is quite small by European standards and the choice of restuarants and shopping is limited.
However the local people are very friendly and refreshling do understand the British needs!
I would say that the island is worth a visit provided you go to Rodney Bay.
