First visit to Tobago and would definitely go back again. The Hilton Tobago is a plantation style hotel and whilst its not the grandest hotel we have stayed in it is clean, tidy and by Tobagan standards a 5 star hotel.

Rooms are fine ? we stayed in standard room which has a king size bed, desk plus chairs, TV, built in wardrobe and there was plenty of room. The bathrooms are great too with a separate shower cubicle. The rooms were always immaculate, the maids came and went discreetly and couldn?t be faulted. All rooms have a sea view, however this may (as in our case) be obstructed buy numerous palm trees. The ?jacuzzi? rooms really aren?t that much better considering what you pay for them. We used one for a shower on our last day and it?s a lot smaller than the standard room as you have a separate bedroom/living area, a lot darker and if you fancy using your jacuzzi with the rest of the hotel watching you?ll be fine!

Food was amazing ? plenty of choice every single day in main buffet restaurant with option to pick off a set menu if nothing took your fancy. However with a fish, 2 red meat, white meat, vegetarian and salad choices there should be something for everyone. You can also eat at the a la carte restaurant which you need to pre book ? again beautiful food in elegant surroundings. The pool bar offered an excellent light lunch menu with plenty of choice.

The hotel has one large pool with plenty of sun beds, we went early Feb and it wasn?t that busy so you could always get some where to sit. There are also several satellite pools that you can hide away in! The beach to the right of the hotel as you look at it isn?t that well used but the one to the left is fine ? lovely pale sand and again plenty of sun beds and shade. The hotel is on the Atlantic side of the Island so it is windy and the sea is pretty rough ? you can still swim in it though and jumping the waves makes for a bit of fun! The wind is definitely appreciated, as it was over 85 degrees everyday so it cools you nicely.

Entertainment was great if you are into that sort of thing with something happening in different areas of the main hotel from 6 through too late. The bars are good, plenty of choice with drinks and the air conditioned one is lovely! They have an 18 hole PGA golf course too and lovely grounds to walk around in.

We did the all inclusive package which offered good value for money as the hotel is a bit out of the way, so you would need to travel every night if you wanted to find another place to eat. The only down side is you have to sign for everything, which becomes a bit tiresome after a while.

Couple of criticisms I would make - Virgins check in/chill out ? its more like hang around/stress out. Its probably great if there are only a few at your hotel using it but there were about 50 people on the day we left. You are asked to get your bags to reception at 8am fully packed then you find out that Virgin turn up between 8 and 9.30! You then have to que to see the customs guys ? be warned they do interrogate you. Then que again to check in with the virgin staff ? all this can take about over an hour so your best bet is to dump your bag in reception then go down for breakfast, wait until you see others coming down then return to check in. If you have pre booked your seats, you must make sure you tell your rep the day you arrive as Virgin do not guarantee you the ones you pre book with them in the UK using the phone or the internet and you will just end up stuck where ever they put you.

The only other thing is that the hotel are pretty unhelpful about keeping your room on ? they wont confirm whether you can keep it until the morning you leave ? which is not a lot of help really. Then they want to charge you the earth to keep it on for the late flights. The room they provide for you to use should you not keep yours is fine but they try to give you a 10 min slot (great when theres 2 of you) then phone you constantly to find out when you will be finished.

Overall would definitely recommend the hotel and Tobago ? the Island tour is well worth it too as it?s a stunning Island.
