A relaxed and very friendly town with the modern harbour a short stroll from the old town making it always pleasant to visit. A very good selection of bars and restaurants serving good qulaity and reasonably priced food and a good place to simply hop from bar to bar and people watch.

There can’t be many settings to compete with this. For want of a better word, it’s magnificent. Gazing across the Adriatic, the Grand Villa enjoys picture-postcard views over old Dubrovnik and the island of Lokrum. More than that, it’s a mere ten-minute stroll from one of Dubrovnik’s Medieval gateways. As you’d expect, the hotel takes full advantage of the panoramas. Along the tiered gardens and terraces, carefully placed benches and patios let you drink in the views. The swimming pool, meanwhile, is set into a terrace inches above the sea. Likewise the restaurant. Set under the shade of umbrella pines, it’s a photogenic spot for light lunches. And rounding off the relaxation repertoire is an indoor pool and luxury spa. The hotel’s interiors cut a dash as well. The lobby is graced with religious statues, exposed stone pillars and regal armchairs that lend it the air of a ducal palace. And Medieval wall maps and polished wood dominate in the lobby lounge.

We will definitely be returning to Dubrovnik, it is lovely! The café right in the centre is fantastic, amazing coffee. There are plenty of places to visit as well in the surrounding area. The lanes full of shops are great to explore, you might want to leave some space in your luggage!

Cavtat is a lovely resort with a port, marina, restaurants, rocky coves. Although catering for the tourist it is quite tasteful with no big brash commercial influence. The Adriatic Sea is crystal clear but bathing access is somewhat limited. There are several bathing areas but these become very busy in high season. You can find quieter areas on the rocks but you may have to clamber down to these and access to the sea can be a bit treacherous if you aren't a good swimmer. Also you need to wear protective bathing shoes to protect you from sharp rocks and sea urchins that are numerous in some areas. There is plenty of sealife to see in the water if you are a keen snorkelist. There are numerous restaurants and bars in Cavtat. We found some of the restaurants pricey. I think this is because they cater for the clients of the multi-million pound yachts that moor up in the harbour. We ate out in Mlini (about 15 mins bus journey from Cavtat) and found prices more reasonable. We did find the more basic restaurants in Cavtat reasonably priced with reasonable food. You need to look around and review the menus. Don't go to the impressive looking ones on the main waterfront if you want value for money but try some of those located away from this area around the peninsula. There is only one mini market in Cavtat and one market selling fruit and fish. We used public transport to get around. The bus fare to Dubrovnik was 12 Kuna ,about £1.50, one way per adult compared to the one way taxi fare of 180 Kuna, about £23. Buses run every half hour up until 1 am. The taxi boat to Dubrivnik was 50 Kuna one way, or 80 Kuna return, per adult. The one regret we had was that we didn't take up any excursions because we found that being at the end of Croatia meant we had limited public transport options - you can only really get to Dubrovnik or the local islands. Excursions to Mostar, in Bosnia, about 70 miles away would have been interesting, we think. Do visit Dubrovnik both during the day and at night. Also, visit the cross and war museum at the top of the hill (use the new cable car) in Dubrovnik. If you want a change of scenery and better access to the sea for bathing then get the bus to Mlini (about 10 minutes). This is not so busy as Cavtat and more reasonably priced.

Porec is a really good base to explore some of the hightlights of Istria. We are not too bothered about sunbathing anymore so the lack of decent beach isn’t an issue to us. Having said that, the coastline is really nice and great for a walk. You must take a trip to Pula.

Very cultural resort with plenty to do. Although we didnt really eat in the town much because we had half board at our hotel the drinks seemed reasonably priced. During the evening there was always entertainment along the streets including dancing and music. Plenty of little stools and shops to look in whilst walking around. You could take a walk around the town looking at the cathedral or you could walk along the pier and look at the boats that had just come in. There was a lovely cocktail and champagne bar along the rocks at night which I recommend although the drinks were relatively expensive, but is definitely an experience. Unfortunately we did not take a trip to the beaches as we spent alot of the time round our pools. There was always plenty of going on in town, with many trips to other places if you felt that you wanted to venture out.I would definitely recommend this resort and think that after a weeks holiday we still didnt get the chance to see it all.

Porec is a lovely resort. Like the brochures say, it is quite Venetian in appearance. There is a boat trip to Venice, biut it takes a fair while and we have been before anyway. The town itself is very nice, lovely buildings, nice marina and some good shops and restaurants. Being quite far north the temperature is more agreeable too.

Porec is a beautiful town on the northern coast of Croatia. The beaches are magical with plenty of deck chairs for hire. The location is fantastic with nice walks along the coast or roller blading, cycling under pine trees all the way. The fresh smell of pine.. Lots of things to do in porec. One thing I would recommend is to take the Ferry from porec to Venice for a day trip. Fantastic day out. Most hotels can organise this trip for you or you can book yourself.

The resort is quiet but with spectacular views. There are watersports and a small beach. Trips to the islands available locally. A couple of nights we decided to try out some local restaurants and were not disappointed. The Croatian people are lovely and very welcoming.

Porec review
"Beautiful place with lots of history"
resort to a friend
The resort of Porec is beatuiful, steeped in history and draped in sun. The sea is gorgeous, and although there aren't sandy beaches, there are plenty of places to sit by the sea and take in the views. The bars and restaurants are great and good value for money. We enjoyed trips to venice and the beautiful Plitvitze lakes - absolutely stunning and well worth a day trip. We'll definitely be visiting Croatia again.

Dubrovnik is a fantastic city! It is great to walk round all of the alleys and roads, there are lots of great shops and cafes. It is a bit expensive though, with all the tourists turning up for the day by cruise ship.

I walked to Vrsar, a friendly and atmospheric village, which is only a 15 minute walk down a path with a great view of the sea. We also went to Pula, Rovinj and Porec and I can recommend a visit. These places are all fairly near Vrsar. We will definitely come and stay here again. That's something I know for sure
