"Cavtat great shame about Hotel"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just got back from Hotel Croatia. First thing I will say is that Hotel and Cavtat are lovely. The thing that let this place down are the high cost of drinks in the bar which had a knock on effect on the atmosphere. Most brits took the short walk 15mins down to the village. It is not the best for 10 - 12 year old boys, not much for the to do. Don,t be worried about the steps, there are a lot but you get use to them. To go the Dubrovnik was the reason we chose this Hotel. The Old town is great. Come out of the old town to the new bit was a very big disappointment, dirty etc. Cost Tourist bus from hotel 20Kn P/P 1 way or boat from Cavtat harbour 200Kn for 2adults/1Child. Both 30-40mins and great. Went to Hotel Eden Rovinj last year and will more than likely go back there next year as we as a family loved everything about it. Would we go back, not as a family with a youngster.

Cavtat is a quiet and beautiful tourist resort about 15 mins from Dubrovnik airport. Pluses are the natural beauty of the harbour, nice boats, reasonable pizza restaurants and bars. Minuses are it is a tourist town of 10 restautant bars/10 souvenier shops and not much sign of a 'real' town (aside from 1 small super market). Some may find the planes overflying the harbour (1 an hour) an issue-- we didnt. We went on 2 excusions one to Montenegro and one to Korchela, the latter included a 3 hour trip on a ferry then a drive back. Both a bit pricey and centred on visiting 'old towns' so a bit one dimensional, although the countryside is great.
Our major problem was Hotel Croatia. Massive, with rather a 'dead feel' and in particular poor and low quality food (we stayed half board)and the lack of evening entertainment. In terms of food the themed nights - Italian, Mexican, sea food, were fairly dreadful with only the Coatian evening reaching anyway near a decent standard. Entertainment comprised a man and a woman with an organ and drum machine.
Having said that the pool was good with shade from trees and access to the sea via steps and rocks was good with beautiful views. In summary Cavtat a really beautiful area but not much sign of the 'real croatia', the hotel rather institutionalised, poor food and expensive with little for younger people (or the young of heart :0))

Overall Hotel Rating:
Before deciding on Croatia we read all the reviews on this hotel and it certainly lived up to its reputation.
You really have that wow factor on entering the hotel reception and the rest of it gets even better. One thing to advise holidaymakers is don't get confused with the lifts. We were on the first floor and assumed we would go up one level - wrong! Reception although on street level is actually on the fourth floor so we had to go down two levels to the first. The room was lovely and we were glad we had paid the extra for a seaview. There are reclining chairs and a table on the balcony. Just a couple of things about the room which may be useful. The hairdryer provided is a fixed one in the bathroom similar to those at swimming pools so no chance of styling your hair. Remember to bring your own and ignore the leaflet in the room which says if you use your own electrical items and they are found, they will be confiscated, Just hide them away when you go to breakfast. Also there is no shower gel provided, so again bring your own.
The area is lovely but as others have said the steep steps make you weary when it is hot. We found another set of steps which were much better and take you straight to Cavtat centre. Go out of the main entrance of the hotel and walk along the road but ignore the first steps on the left which point to the beach. Carry on along the road a short way until you come to a junction then on the left are another shallow set of steps accompanied by a slope which are much easier to negotiate.
As regards visits we went on the tourist bus to Dubrovnik old town and this was well worth it. We also went on a cruise to the pretty island of Korcula. You then come back by road and stop off at the pretty walled town of Ston where you can buy wine from the region. For one of the visits Euros are required so either take them or change at the hotel. Also on the way home all items at duty free are shown in Euros. We had a fantastic time at the Hotel Croatia which has wonderful friendly staff and after a week we felt part of the family. We can't wait to return next year.

cavtat is the most beautiful place in the world. i truly hope that it does not become overrun in the future.
the hotel is spotless. food is grand lots of it. the italian night was probably the best. the staff were lovely to us. it was very very hot but we walked a beautiful path around the peninsula every day. there is a lovely little cafe there not too sure what its called. the other good bar is the posejdon its the first bar as you are walking down from the hotel on the left.much cheaper then the drinks in the hotel - the terrace there can be a little soul less at night - head into the village for the real atmosphere. the seat in the posejdon beside the water is magical at night. its an incredibly romantic place.

Hotel Croatis :- Beautiful hotel with really good standards.Rooms are lovely especially with sea view, everything is very clean and all the staff are helpfull and professional. We only had the breakfast which was typical foreign buffet. The downside is there that there are no beaches in Cavtat. Sun bathing is either on the rocks at the rear of the hotel, but no facilities, round the pool which is busy or in Cavtat bay which is comfortable. Please note that the hotel is very high on its own peninsulla with steps down to Cavtat which is literally 5 mins walk. The climb back is very hard on the knees and not for anyone who has difficulty walking. However if you are mobile the steps are worth the effort.
Cavtat is absoloutely beautiful, fantastic sunsets, nice bars, great yachts and cruisers comming and going, really nice restaurants especially the restaurant dalmacija, one of the first as you walk into town from the hotel.Small boat hire (42 euros)is great fun and there is a small island just outside Cavtat for lunch. Many water taxi's to Dubrovnik for a day out and car hire is cheap, around 60 euros a day.Changing money no problem and ATM machine in the hotel and Cavtat, also any papers available from reception to order.
Please note drinks are priced double in the hotel. Our spending was 1200 euros for two eating out every night with wine and lunch every day.
Would highly recommend the hotel and resort with a nice atmosphere perfect for couples and families.

Have just returned from our holiday and must highly recommend this resort (Cavtat) and the hotel. After a last minute change by the tour company we stayed at this hotel and how glad we are that we were changed.
The hotel is very spacious and clean, the food excellent with a large selection, and as much as you like to eat. The rooms are large and comfortable and the pool excellent with plenty of sunbeds, with shade available from the surrounding trees. The beaches are rocky areas rather then actual beaches and there is a bit of climbing to do for the best spots and to swim in the sea. The sea it self is clear, warm and super clean and is a real joy to swim in. The hotel has lifts but do expect to walk quite a bit as it is large and evrything is on different levels. This resort and most of the others we saw have a lot of steps so make sure you are able to walk up and down them to see the best parts.
The resort of Cavtat is small and lovely with plenty of restaurants to choose from and not to crowded even at peak times. Entertainment is limited and repeats its self often in the hotel, which also has an excellent disco for late night drinking though the music is an aquired taste being a bit dated and varied. This is the ideal place for a quite and relaxed holiday away from the crowds.

Overall Hotel Rating:
Just returned -literally yesterday! from a wonderful weeks holiday in Cavat staying at Hotel Croatia.
We read all the reviews on this site before booking and were not disappointed.
The Hotel itself is the most 'up market' we have ever stayed in and as this was our first holiday without our children thought we would spoil ourselves. Very efficient, quick check-in at reception, staff took cases immediately to our room where a cold supper was waiting as we had missed dinner. Room very spacious and clean with a wonderful sea view. Lovely pool area (we were apprehensive about it being sea water but this never bothered us)
The beach area was lovely, free towels and sunbeds, umbrellas and a magnificent view out into the bay of Cavtat. Good beach bar serving reasonably priced snacks and drinks at lunchtime. Restaurant at hotel very professionally run with excellent choices of food both at breakfast and dinner. The only down side is that if there are just the 2 of you you do have to share a table with others which we weren't too keen on but luckily the couple we shared with were very nice. The drinks in the hotel itself are extortionately priced (£5 for a single whiskey) and the hotel lacked atmosphere due to no night time entertainment so every night we walked into Cavtat town (took 10 mins and very enjoyable as spectacular views on the way. Loads of quiet bars and restaurants on the waters edge where you can watch the lovely boats coming in and out - lovely vibrant atmosphere. Prices in the town are more like our english prices.
Croatian people very pleasant and helpful - not many english tourists, mainly German, French but not a problem. Very unspoiled area with spectacular scenery and the most crystal clear sea I have ever seen and swam in. Sea temp was 27 deg and at 10.00am yesterday (29.7.05) the weather was a very hot 34deg!
Thoroughly recommend Cavat and Hotel Croatia if this is to be your first visit to Croatia - You will love it!

Overall Hotel Rating:
I was a bit apprehensive about revisiting a resort after I stayed there 20 years ago, but was delighted when there had only been very small changes. No new developments have taken place and Cavtat keeps its natural charm.
We stayed at the luxurious Hotel Croatia and it was certainly very impressive. Very attentive staff, air conditioned reception rooms and bedrooms ensured comfort throughout. The pool area was very pleasant with free sunbed and despite the size of the hotel, sunbeds together (there were 3 of us in our group) were not hard to find. The music at the pool was quite repetitive and by the end of our week did start to get on my nerves! The food in the restaurant was fantastic and very varied. House wine (1 litre bottle) was about £10.
The town of Cavtat is very peaceful and pretty with impressive motor yachts along its harbour. Lots of places to eat, but the shops are limited and all seem to sell the same type of souvenirs.
All in all top marks for Hotel Croatia and the resort of Cavtat.

Overall Hotel Rating:
The hotel is very nice our only complaint would have to be the food there is lots of it but it is all so bland and lacks any flavour, all the vegetables are overcooked and soggy.By the way if you finish your book there is a cupboard behind reception where you will find lots of books to choose from just ask the receptionist.
By the way if you have trouble with steps this is not the place for you as there are hundreds of them not only from the hotel to the beach but everywhere. We would certainly recommend a trip to dubrovnik it is beautiful, you can either get a boat from the harbour it is about 80 kuna return that is about 8 pound, or a bus goes from outside the hotel at 9 and 10.45 in the morning. When you get there take a walk along the walls it is stunning and costs about 3 pound but it will take you a while as there is about 3km of them.Once you have been you will want to go back.
There are lots of day trips to go on we went on the dubrovnik sight seeing which was good and on the vineyard trip which takes you up to the wine region of the peljesac peninsula you visit three wineries where you get to taste the wines you have a typical dalmation home cooked lunch in the second one.Of course there are opportunities to purchase wines.
Cavtat is a beautiful place and the croatians are lovely people i recommend everyone to go there hopefully not at the same time, the hardest thing to do is to learn just to chill out in the idyllic surroundings try to catch a sunset over dubrovnik from the hotel if you can.

This was our first visit to Croatia and we had a great 2 weeks holiday staying at Hotel Croatia in Cavtat.
We read all the reviews on this site before going and were not disappointed.
The Hotel was great, dated but very clean and the hotel staff were excellent.
The room again was very clean and was plently big enough for the two of us.
The hotel had a lovely pool area with the option of an indoor pool as well.
The hotel had magnificent views out into the bay of Cavtat. The food at both breakfast and dinner was very nice and there was plently of it.
The drink (Wine) in the hotel was expensive. Every night we walked into Cavtat town,it took about 10 mins. But be aware there are quite a few steps down from the hotel into Cavtat. It makes you huff and puff a bit of the way back up.(It did us anyway). In Cavtat itself there are quite a few bars and restaurants where you can sit can watch the boats coming in and out.
The Croatian people are very pleasant and helpful, most spoke good English. Lots of German and French tourists not that many English for some reason ?.
Places to visit are Dubrovnik, about a 45 min boat ride away from Cavtat.Plus if you get the chance cross the boarder and visit Mostar, its a real eye opener and a must see.
We would both thoroughly recommend Cavtat and the Hotel Croatia. If you have never been to Croatia, Go ! You will love it!

with only 15kms from dubrovnic there is always plenty to see and do. the ferry service is fast and efficient and can take tou anywhere. remember to not buy a return ticket though as you might not get the same fery on your return. Cavtat is a wonderful town with fabulous views over the riviera. croatian people really friendly and appreciative of tourists. the croatia hotel is the best in the area it has everything you need. the pool is fabulous and there are two or three bathing areas and lots of walks.
the food at the hotel is out of this world always plenty of choice. on arrival at the restaurant you will have a designated table and the same person will seat you and attend to you. entertainment at the hotel is varied for every taste although we usually went into cavtat for a few beers. would love to go back and also visit dubrovnic again. we did a 7night motor cruiser cruise around the islands first and saw the smaller unspoilt islands (see them now before the tourist get there).
All in all we had a fab holiday. Croatia isnt cheap but I amd a big believer is you get what you pay for.

First Choice flight from Manchester on time, Cabin Staff were excellent and down to earth.. In flight entertainment good, food was average.
Arrived at Dubrovnik airport early, very quick through customs and baggage reclaim,
Transfer to Cavtat 10mins if that.. Our rep was called Daniel, he was EXCELLENT a croatian with a Mancunian accent..I would've swore he were English!!
Quick check-in on arrival, lovely sea facing room.
Dressing Gowns supplied.
Room size ample, very clean.
We have been to this hotel before but it was an inland view room and not much to see except trees..! it is worth upgrading to a sea view.
The staff in this hotel are wonderful, very friendly, they can't do enough for you.. and a lot of them have worked there for years.Food in this hotel is excellent, with a wide variety of choice both at breakfast and evening meal, Porridge for breakfast ..Yummy.
Drinks in the hotel are very expensive as are in the mini-bar in your room.
The only negative point to mention is the 127 steps from and to the Hotel(down to the walkway) care be taken as they can be slippy!! Even the roadway is quite steep.
A 10min walk in to the town and you will find Bars/Restaraunts etc.
We found a lovely bar called Trabakul where drinks are cheaper than England equilavent to £1.10 pint, 70p a Brandy. It got full every night we were there!! Cavtat is a very relaxing, charming and beautiful place to go and stay. No hustle and bustle here.
Return flight on time.
Cabin crew as good as flight out.
Food average, why do they think everybody likes bangers and mash!!!Can't wait to go back next year.

Good (if large) hotel - food better than restaurants in town - though drinks are overpriced. Nice to have free Gym, billiards, towels, umbrellas and sun-beds. Dont expect much from their 'croatian night' apart from candles on the table.....
Nudist beach (in hotel) surprised and occasionally delighted the girls.
Recommend hiring jet-skis and visiting Dubrovnik.
We were there a week - would have been a bit bored (especially for teenagers) to stay for two.
Cant recommend FirstChoice - they introduced an additional stop on flight back at Zadar (basically a one horse airport) - which adds another two hours to the flight time just to save cost of flying out SunSail people.
