Just got back from Hotel Croatia. First thing I will say is that Hotel and Cavtat are lovely. The thing that let this place down are the high cost of drinks in the bar which had a knock on effect on the atmosphere. Most brits took the short walk 15mins down to the village. It is not the best for 10 - 12 year old boys, not much for the to do. Don,t be worried about the steps, there are a lot but you get use to them. To go the Dubrovnik was the reason we chose this Hotel. The Old town is great. Come out of the old town to the new bit was a very big disappointment, dirty etc. Cost Tourist bus from hotel 20Kn P/P 1 way or boat from Cavtat harbour 200Kn for 2adults/1Child. Both 30-40mins and great. Went to Hotel Eden Rovinj last year and will more than likely go back there next year as we as a family loved everything about it. Would we go back, not as a family with a youngster.

Cavtat is a quiet and beautiful tourist resort about 15 mins from Dubrovnik airport. Pluses are the natural beauty of the harbour, nice boats, reasonable pizza restaurants and bars. Minuses are it is a tourist town of 10 restautant bars/10 souvenier shops and not much sign of a 'real' town (aside from 1 small super market). Some may find the planes overflying the harbour (1 an hour) an issue-- we didnt. We went on 2 excusions one to Montenegro and one to Korchela, the latter included a 3 hour trip on a ferry then a drive back. Both a bit pricey and centred on visiting 'old towns' so a bit one dimensional, although the countryside is great.

Our major problem was Hotel Croatia. Massive, with rather a 'dead feel' and in particular poor and low quality food (we stayed half board)and the lack of evening entertainment. In terms of food the themed nights - Italian, Mexican, sea food, were fairly dreadful with only the Coatian evening reaching anyway near a decent standard. Entertainment comprised a man and a woman with an organ and drum machine.
Having said that the pool was good with shade from trees and access to the sea via steps and rocks was good with beautiful views.

In summary Cavtat a really beautiful area but not much sign of the 'real croatia', the hotel rather institutionalised, poor food and expensive with little for younger people (or the young of heart :0))

Before deciding on Croatia we read all the reviews on this hotel and it certainly lived up to its reputation.

You really have that wow factor on entering the hotel reception and the rest of it gets even better. One thing to advise holidaymakers is don't get confused with the lifts. We were on the first floor and assumed we would go up one level - wrong! Reception although on street level is actually on the fourth floor so we had to go down two levels to the first. The room was lovely and we were glad we had paid the extra for a seaview. There are reclining chairs and a table on the balcony. Just a couple of things about the room which may be useful. The hairdryer provided is a fixed one in the bathroom similar to those at swimming pools so no chance of styling your hair. Remember to bring your own and ignore the leaflet in the room which says if you use your own electrical items and they are found, they will be confiscated, Just hide them away when you go to breakfast. Also there is no shower gel provided, so again bring your own.

The area is lovely but as others have said the steep steps make you weary when it is hot. We found another set of steps which were much better and take you straight to Cavtat centre. Go out of the main entrance of the hotel and walk along the road but ignore the first steps on the left which point to the beach. Carry on along the road a short way until you come to a junction then on the left are another shallow set of steps accompanied by a slope which are much easier to negotiate.

As regards visits we went on the tourist bus to Dubrovnik old town and this was well worth it. We also went on a cruise to the pretty island of Korcula. You then come back by road and stop off at the pretty walled town of Ston where you can buy wine from the region. For one of the visits Euros are required so either take them or change at the hotel. Also on the way home all items at duty free are shown in Euros. We had a fantastic time at the Hotel Croatia which has wonderful friendly staff and after a week we felt part of the family. We can't wait to return next year.

the hotel is spotless. food is grand lots of it. the italian night was probably the best. the staff were lovely to us. it was very very hot but we walked a beautiful path around the peninsula every day. there is a lovely little cafe there not too sure what its called. the other good bar is the posejdon its the first bar as you are walking down from the hotel on the left.much cheaper then the drinks in the hotel - the terrace there can be a little soul less at night - head into the village for the real atmosphere. the seat in the posejdon beside the water is magical at night. its an incredibly romantic place.

Hotel Croatis :- Beautiful hotel with really good standards.Rooms are lovely especially with sea view, everything is very clean and all the staff are helpfull and professional. We only had the breakfast which was typical foreign buffet. The downside is there that there are no beaches in Cavtat. Sun bathing is either on the rocks at the rear of the hotel, but no facilities, round the pool which is busy or in Cavtat bay which is comfortable. Please note that the hotel is very high on its own peninsulla with steps down to Cavtat which is literally 5 mins walk. The climb back is very hard on the knees and not for anyone who has difficulty walking. However if you are mobile the steps are worth the effort.

Cavtat is absoloutely beautiful, fantastic sunsets, nice bars, great yachts and cruisers comming and going, really nice restaurants especially the restaurant dalmacija, one of the first as you walk into town from the hotel.Small boat hire (42 euros)is great fun and there is a small island just outside Cavtat for lunch. Many water taxi's to Dubrovnik for a day out and car hire is cheap, around 60 euros a day.Changing money no problem and ATM machine in the hotel and Cavtat, also any papers available from reception to order.

Please note drinks are priced double in the hotel. Our spending was 1200 euros for two eating out every night with wine and lunch every day.

Would highly recommend the hotel and resort with a nice atmosphere perfect for couples and families.
