"Peaceful Hotel and Island"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Open quote

If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday this is the place to come. We have no children and we are in our mid 40's and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the island. Its not the place to take children as its so quiet and I think that they could be bored. The food was ok a bit bland, could have done with a bit more flavouring but I was grateful of someone cooking and washing up for a change!! The sea is rocky and you will need the rubber soled shoes as the sea erchines are painful. The pool is very small. Walks about the island are plentiful and you get some great views from the look out point and other places. The sandy beach on the other side of the island is great but a bit of a walk, take a buggy aleast one way its an experience not to be missed. Trips to the main land are easy the ferry is very cheap and relaxing. The old city of Dubrovnic is not to be missed but get there eary to miss the crowds. We took the 6am ferry had breakfast and took the walk along the walls at 8am before the sun is too hot and full of Americans from the cruise ships. Not too many insects but take repellent with you as the couple of shops on the island do not sell much apart from gifts, postcards extra. The rooms at the hotel we clean and comfortable, we had a problem with the shower in the room above leaking but was immediately fixed after a phone call to reception. The staff at the hotel seem standoffish at first but I think they are a reserved people as the war is still in the back of there minds. We found that if you are friendly and try a few simple words it makes them a bit warmer. The entertainment at the hotel was average. A bit noisy in the bar. The bar is large enough but not with the entertainment as well. The hotel is also being done up, new windows in the reception and lots of other things planned, this is all being done when the hotel is closed in the winter,so don't worry. Take Croatian Kuna not euros as Thomson advised, although at the airport they quote in euros. So if your looking to recharge your batteries this is the place for you.

"Wonderful Island, Shame about the food"

The hotel Laodia sits on the Island of Lopud, 7km from Dubrovnik. The hotel is clean and the staff friendly. The package was all inclusive. The meals were horrendous, bland and repetitive. Breakfast was the same for the full 14 days. There was a high proportion of French guests which may explain the frogs leg stew, although the frech stayed away from it. By all means stay at the Lafodia but dont go for a package which includes meals or you will eat out as we did.

Stayed at Hotel Lafodia for 2 weeks in Sept 2005.Very peaceful and beautiful in everyway. No traffic on the island, hotel overall was generally good, Staff friendly and a great variety of food choice. Only gripe being not sufficient sunloungers and small beach didnt get the sun all day. Beach at the other side of the island is an approx 25 minute walk. Dubrovnik old town is a must see and also Cilipi was well worth a visit.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday on Lopud Island which took 50 minutes on the ferry from Dubrovnik. We travelled on a small boat with about 30 people. The crossing was good. The island is beautiful and the most relaxing place I have ever been to. The hotel was lovely and the staff very friendly . The food was good there was plenty to choose from, I didn't like the way the meat and vegtables were cooked in oil, but there was soup, salads and lovely bread, nice desserts and loads of different drinks. My husband was quite happy with the food. We went fully inclusive and were never hungry. The animation team tried their best to amuse people !! I would not recommend this hotel for teenagers or young children as there is not a lot to do. Plenty of boat trips and 30 kuna for the ferry to Dubrovnik which comes 4 times a day and is always punctual. You can take a walk to Sunj beach which takes about an hour. It is quite hilly but there are loads of seats which you can take a rest on when you get puffed out. The beach is lovely. You can also take a hike up to the fort which is up a lot of steps and some very rough ground, but once there the views are spectacular. Don't forget to try the ice cream very yummy! We had a very relaxing week with lovely weather and would highly recommend the island.

location is fantastic. the hotel is a good three star tourist hotel, clean, good staff, good rooms. pool is too small but not a problem because the sea is crystal clear and warm. the only complaint is the food. It is one step up from school dinner quality. There is lots of variety in salads abd side dishes, but if don't like overcooked fish, or poor quality meat stews then you will be dissapointed.
The range of drinks included is good and the house wines are very drinkable. We ate out at least half the time. If they could improve the food quality it would be almost paradise

Don't forget your toothbrush.

Despite the 11 hour journey from Bristol to Lopud via Gatwick all travel went exactly to plan. The island is a Haven for a peaceful holiday being around 50 minutes from Dubrovnik by boat. Unfortunately they don't use the hotel boat for organised tours (Serbia, Montenegro etc) unless at least 15 people want to go so you have to get the public ferry to Dubrovnik which leaves at 06:00 so an early start.

The food in the hotel is excellent and varied and considering the number of guests at the hotel, meal times run extremely smoothly. Rooms are clean and contain everything required except for maybe an iron. There is only one very small basic shop on the island so it's best to remember things like batteries and not rely on buying them there. Walk across the island to the small sandy beach at Sunj, which is about 40 minutes from the hotel over a fairly steep hill. Here sunbeds and umbrellas are 25 Kuna each which works out quite nicely at approx £2.50 each. There is a nice cafe here selling good value yet basic snacks. All local alcohol in the hotel is included in the price of the holiday and the beer is good and the wine passable. You must try the Pear Brandy which is like liquid pear drops.

All in all an excellent, relaxing break in beautiful surroundings. Oh and visit Dubrovnik early to make sure there are not too many tourists on the wall.

We decided to go to Croatia for a holiday on July 2nd 2006 for a all inclusive holiday and decided we would give Lopud Island a go.Getting to the island we had to go by boat and it was a hours crossing to Lopud when we arrived we made our way upto the hotel didnt have to carry cases as they were bought upto the hotel for us.When we got to the reception which ran very smoothly and quickly we were allocated a top floor room which we did specify for low floor when we booked. We went back to reception and they allocated 2 rooms on the 4th floor. The staff at the hotel are very nice and welcoming and the meals were excellent. At the hotel you get free use of the pedaloes and canoes as well as the windsurfers and bikes. We took full advantage of these and my 2 teenage children really enjoyed there holiday there.

The island is very peaceful and quite and very safe to walk round as there are no vechicles on the island. This Island is not for Clubbers. We even felt safe to let the children go around on there own as the locals are very warm and welcoming. The icecream in Lopud town is one of the best it is made by Osmond who gets up at 3 in morning to make it well worth having one its delicious and so is the sundaes he his located near to information office. The walk to Sunji beach is a good walk or you could go by bike but it is quite hilly but worth the ride or walk as the beach is excellent. We went a walk upto the bandstand where you can see shooting stars that is left out of the hotel entrance. We also took a walk upto the fort and the chapel of st john where we saw Lizards,Crickets in there own habitat well worrth the walk.Went across to Dubrovnik on Ferry and took a bus into old Dubrovnik where we visited the Aquarium.

We would definitely be going back to Hotel Lafodia again one of the best hotels i have been to on all inclusive. We would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

What a disappointment this was - the brochure promised a relaxing all inclusive hotel in a resort with no traffic or motorised vehicles, ideal for rest and relaxtion. All started well, but part way through out week a boat bought in a jack hammer machine and a lorry and JCB and starting demolishing the swimming pool. We were told that the pool would be out of action permanently and that there were no other hotels we could be moved to. We had to stay and listen to concrete being smashed up and loaded onto a lorry which was then taken to the mainland in a rather smelly noisy boat which returned regularly. Furthermore, there is no beach on this side of the island that gets any sun so it was a ½ hour trek to find peace and quiet and then we could not use the all inclusive facilities of the hotel. I do not recommend this hotel.

We were lucky enough to have the front room on the 5th floor of the hotel, views out to sea and the whole of the small town of Lopud. Absolutely stunning!

The hotel rooms have air-con, are a good size and we had a large balcony but that was because we were at the front. Food pretty good on the whole, always something there that my fussy teenagers would eat.
I loved the island, no cars, no neon lights, no pubs with big screen tvs for football, no internet access, just a get away from it all place. There are a few restaurants, a gift shop and stalls selling newspapers. Unfortunatly my teenagers would have liked a bit more to do, were bored after 3 days.

All in a all a beautiful place where I would go back to again but without teenagers.

Lovely peaceful island-totally relaxing and stressfree.Hotel staff friendly and efficient. Food wonderful with lots of choice.Little bars/restaurants and a few shops within walking distance.
There are several boats a day to Dubrovnik (very cheap ) and to the other islands.
The portland rep was lovely -very helpful and friendly.
The sea is perfect for snorkelling and swimming but watch out for sea urchins -plastic jelly shoes are best. The free pedaloes were a great hit.
Pool quite small but most people tended to swim in the sea.
The views from the hotel are fantastic ,as are the sunsets.
We had awonderful holiday here.

Beautiful ,peaceful island. For a relaxing holiday this is perfect. The hotel was clean, staff helpful and food excellent. The island was litter free, and is perfect for people who like to swim /go on pedalos /snorkel etc or just sunbathe. There where plenty of well behaved happy children there although some teens may not find enough to do.Our teenage daughter loved it. There are regular boats to Dubrovnik both to the old town and the new part and fares are between £1.50 and £4.00 return.Abus from Dubrovnik will take you to Cavtat in about half an hour if you get time to do this.

a very nice island and a really nice hotel, a bit dissapointing that whisky wasnt on the a/i list but the lager is really good. 80% french stay here and a few german so english tend to stay together.

lovely trips to dubrovnik and other islands and very lovely boats come in to your hotel port every few hours, food could be better ie bacon undercooked and no tomatoes mushrooms etc they do seem to cater for french more than us but altogether an enjoyable.

wouldnt go again tho. back to thompson gold ibiza 2006 !!!!!

I thought i'd write a review on Lopud island as when we were looking to book we could'nt find anything but we later learnt that this year is the 1st year package holidays for UK have been available.
The transfare from hotel to island went well and very relaxing coach and boat.
We were met at hotel by ";bell boys"; to take our cases to reception which is up quiet a few steps.
The rooms in hotel very clean and tidy with air con.

The food could be better caters more for french its bacon, chesse and ham and loads of nice fresh bread laid out for every meal a lot of fish, rice, pasta and pizza. ok but got sick of same things after few days but made change from chips which was only served once!!! But we didnt go hungry.
The so called snacks at pool bar were short bread and left over pizza.
The drinks selection very very limited, bottle water had to be bought £1 for a SMALL bottle.
The hotel staff friendly as was the rep. The entatainment was the same every single night and was ready to smash up the CD player after hearing ";superman"; in french for 6 nights.
the island its self is very pretty and quiet but never felt so safe. The main beach (hotel has a small rocky one) is about 30 mins walk up hill and quiet a killer but worth it was nice, nudist part to the left, full of germans of course. Nice little cafe at beach very cheap.

I'd recommend lopud for couples and any one wanting a very quiet holiday i did like it and would go back but in a good few years main land came very recommended.
