After having visited the country many times, when it was Yugoslavia, I was keen to see what had changed. I was pleasantly suprised. Visited Korcula and stayed at the Liburna in mid May 2008. The weather was very good, although the sea was still a bit too cold for swimming. As it was early in the season the water taxis were not running to the smaller islands where there are naturist and other beaches. The town has been cleaned up since the 'Yugo' days. The motto of 'the Mediterranean as it used to be' is certainly true here. Shame the old fishing harbour has gone and been replaced with a Yacht harbour. Eating in the town is easy. Lots of small good quality restaurants at reasonable prices. Fish can be a bit expensive though. Korcula is resisting the temptation of building more hotels and apartments. They have good reasons for doing this. Take time to explore the rest of the island. There are frequent buses to other places. The town itself is unique. Lots of little streets to explore and interesting shops. Well stocked supermarket, not like the old days ! As it was early in the season the place was relatively quiet. Some things were not running, like the folk dance evening. Korcula is a good place to relax in. You can easily get away from the crowds at the height of season.

Travelled with Holiday Options from Norwich. Small 50 seat plane with lots of leg room and good service. Our Courier was a local girl who treated us like adults and did not spend her time pushing trips and extras. Excellent holiday all round. I'll be back !
