Arrivng at the hotel we were shown to a tiny one-bedroom apartment for our family of four, despite having booked a two bed one. At Reception I met a lady complaining about the same thing (as the fortnight developed we learned that this seems to be standard practice!). After some debate we were given the 2 bed apartment we should have had originally, but it was still VERY GRIM - dark, poorly equipped, stained beds, broken equipment (chairs, for example). Slept there the first night thinking it would look better in the morning but it didn't! We couldn't have stayed there for 2 nights let alone 2 weeks.
Spent a morning negotiating with travel company and hotel reception trying to be moved and were eventually given two rooms in hotel on a BandB basis - and the holiday started to look a lot better! Jasmin and Cedar seem to be the best blocks to stay in. Cedar has sea views but music from beach bar carries (see later). Jasmin has small mini bar fridge. Cedar slightly bigger rooms, Jasmin slightly more modern fittings. Cedar mainly Italian (so you feel more 'on holiday' ), Jasmin mainly English families. We stayed in Cedar, the other 'moved' family in Jasmin and we were all happy.
For reference, it didn't affect us but we heard the rep tell a family not to eat at the hotel as the food was awful, but there's no need to anyway. Just take the water taxi (£3 for 2 adults, 2 children) over to Korcula Town where there are lots of restaurants - we recommend Doris (facing the taxi dock), Luna (on the harbour) and Millenium (up on the walls). The ride back is lovely past all the lit up yachts.
Back to the hotel...the pool is clean (water changed weekly), there's beach bar music until 11.00 (but it does go off then) and daily maid service in the rooms. The tiny beach is busy but it's not too tricky to find yourself a quiet spot to pitch a sunbed on one of the terraces. Milk bar by beach very cheap for lunches. Bar by Dive School very cold beer and good barbeque for lunch. Dive school well run by English people (Dupin Dive Centre - find on internet)
Incidentally, we learned from a local that troops were stationed in the apartments during the conflict. Looking at them you can believe it's true and nothing's changed since!
The last word has to go to one of the hotel managers who, whilst showing me the hotel room we were being offered said 'the apartments are shoddy and no-one cares about them'. Says it all, I think!!

However, the Bon Repos apartments could be of a higher quality. It is a shame that the accommodation is so poor because the resort situation is wonderful. It is quite clean and basic, but just seemed a bit shabby and old and uncared for! The one-bedroom apartments are tiny. The two-bedroom apartments are not much better! The crazy golf is overgrown and unusable. There is no kids pool. There are no amusements or pool table - although I personally think that is a good thing. Do not eat in the hotel restaurant because even our Rep told us it was of poor quality!!!
But, the taxi boats from Bon Repos to the old town is nice and cheap. The walk back in the evening is relaxing and takes about 20-30 minutes. The pizzas in town are excellent.
We enjoyed our holiday because the weather was good and the area is nice, but I would not return to Bon Repos again, unless it is given a total overhaul.
The island of Korcula is stunningly beautiful; as are the views on the journey to and from Dubrovnik. The people are friendly and appear genuinely concerned that you enjoy your holiday. The seafood is first class as is the wine.

Hotel Bon Repos is apparently still state owned and as such is dated, needs significant investment and lacks the customer service one would enjoy in a more commercially focussed hotel. The bar closes at 11pm and there are no other bars nearby. It is a mile and a half walk to Korcula town where all the restaurants are, so take something rain-proof. The water taxis are excellent and it costs £1 per person to use them between Bon Repos and the town. These finish at dusk thoughg and the taxicabs are quite expensive. Visiting the walled city of Dubrovnik is an experience not to be missed.
A beautiful resort, island and country but Bon Repos should be avoided until it significantly improves.

However ... the Bon Repos is like a poor Eastern European version of Butlins (and that is being very rude to Butlins!) We went half board for the second week of our two weeks in Croatia (first week in Dubrovnik Argosy Hotel was great). Perhaps the apartments would have been a better choice ~ however, I wouldn't go back.
The journey from Dubrovnik is over three hours ~ two of them in a coach going on very, very winding coastal roads ~ pretty, but made lots of people sick! Followed by a taxi boat which is fine. Evening 'entertainment' is poor. The rooms are very small and reminded me of a sub-standard BandB, no bath only a shower, and you can hear every sound from the room next door.
The very worst part of all was the disgusting food in the restaurant in the evening .... whatever 'chopped roll meat' is, appeared frequently on the menu ~ other dishes were often with a 'Dalmatian sauce', which scarily hid what was lurking underneath! It all looked like 'slop' and I overheard other people commenting likewise using the exact same description. It really made me feel sick just to look at it! We therefore walked into Korchula town and had some lovely meals there.
I will go back to Croatia again as it is a beautiful country but will just remember to choose the hotel carefully!!

Holiday Options were like a breath of fresh air - the flights arranged through Astreus airline from Manchester were superb - wetook off on time to the minute going and got a running commentary from the first officer as to where we could view through the window(it was a lovely clear day) - we landed early too! The transfer to the apartments was a long steady journey but we stopped off at a small bar for refreshments halfway.
The apartments were clean and comfortable, the reception staff very helpful and spoke perfect English. There were several restaurants ";owned"; by the complex - the best being La Lanterna which served a superb fish platter. Korcula itself boasts several restaurants and pizzerias. The pizzas are fantastic and you have to try the ice-cream which cost between 25p and 50p for a cone. There are hundreds of flavours.
You can get almost anywhere by boat and we took the local Katamarin to Split (£5 each way for a 2 hour journey) A must is one of the organised tours to Mostar in Bosnia, a trip both moving and interesting.
We are looking to go back again this year, I just hop that this idyllic holiday resort does not get spoilt.
