Hotel Meteor is an excellent hotel. It is very clean ,well run and maintained by an impressive staff. The food was also excellent, very hot and plenty of it.The hotel was probably the quietest that we have stayed in during the night , no doors banging and quiet air conditioning in our room. The hotel is more than suitable for couples and families and I would certainly recommend it. I would also recommend Balkan Holidays for a great holiday.

We just wanted to add to the fine reviews regarding this hotel and resort. We spent two weeks here and although it is quiet the time flew by. The hotel itself is in a perfect position (two mins from bed to beach), and it is exceptionally clean. Our room and towels were cleaned everyday. We were half board but we rarely ate in the hotel because the restaraunts were so cheap and lovely. We sampled fresh fish and scrummy pizzas everyday along with copious amounts of cheap alcohol. We did not spend more than £30 a night and we were trying! The hotel pool is a lovely area, get early for the sunbeds though! The beach, although stoney, was perfect. The sea was so warm we spent all day snorkelling looking at the array of sea life.

If you are looking for a lively nightlife then this is not the place for you. I'm sure once the euro is introduced the prices will go up, but for the time being if you looking for a relaxing holiday with cocktails, sun, sea, and fresh food you can go no further than here.

my friend and I are both well travelled, but neither of us had visited Croatia before, so this was unkown territory.

I booked the hotel and flights on the internet and we picked up a car in Split airport.

Tucepi is a pleasant 2 hour drive from the airport. When we were there the new motorway had not opened, but I believe is due to open some time in 2007.

The Hotel Villa Andrea is situated on the seafront in the new part of Tucepi. It is 3 metres from the beach.

it is a small family run hotel with only 16 rooms. The rooms are all comfortable, clean and nicely furnished.

We had booked BB and breakfast was the normal buffet style, but we were asked each morning if we would also like a cooke breakfast at no extra charge.

We stayed for 8 nights and ate 4 nights at the hotel as the redtaurant was as good as any in the town.

The hotel supplied beach beds with mattresses at no extra charge and were placed wherever you wanted on the beach.

The beach in front of the hotel is pebbly with crystal clear water.

The family and staff at the hotel were extremely friendly, helpful and obliging.

I would definately recommend the hotel to couples, friends and singles. However, it would probably appeal more to over 30's.

Tucepi itself is a pleasant quiet resort with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from.

As we had the car we explored the surrounding area. One of the places worth visiting is Omis and the drive along the river, although it is also possible to take boat trips.

We were very impressed with croatia and will certainly be going back.

First visit to Croatia, we only do the Balerics. But we were not dissapponted it was awesome!!!.
The Hotel was top notch very clean plenty of space in the room plus a mini bar (however you do pay mini bar prices, £2.20 for a small can of larger and a large bottle of Becks is 50p in the supermarket)
All rooms have a sea view we had a high room with spectacular views of the sea and the mountains to the rear of the resort. just before we went we were told of some building work next to the hotel, but don't worry its all but finished and did not spoil our enjoyment.

There has apparently been some improvements to the resturant, going on what other perople have said. we were BandB and there was plenty of choice and it was all really nice.
Plenty of restaurants in the resort and the food is really cheap. however if you like the look of the evening menu in the hotel you can go in and ask for an evening meal and charge it to your room to pay at the end of your stay, we had a three course evening meal with drinks for £20 (£10 per head).
Down side, pebble beach (but you can buy rubber shoes for £4) and no parasols but the trees provide a good source of shade. The sea shelf drops away very quickly so beware. we have been told that this time of year is the best time as July and August get very busy and the beaches are packed.

Would we go back? Definetley but at this time of year.

Croatia is a beautiful country. Brella is a very small fishing village. The Hotel is set in very nice settings. But there were a few details that should be known.

Most of the hotels including the Marina is set up high off the coastline. There are many steps to climb down and then up again. People with walking dificulties would find this a hard task. Once you get down to the beach, there is nothing there but the sea. The Village consists of a few bars. If you want to go to the nearest propper resort (Baska Voda) This is a long walk away or you can get the school bus, but if you miss the 07.30am bus the next one is 13.30pm. If you want to go to the main bust stop this is a mammoth task. It is about a 5 mile hike up a very steep winding road. and once again when you return, its a steep road to walk back down which you may think is easy. It is NOT. The hotel should provide a shuttle for this trip. We booked a Taxi the 2nd time we wanted to find some life. The taxi fare to the bustop was £5.00.

We booked a double room. What we got was 2 single beds pushed together with 2 seperate covers? That is a twin room to us, but we were told no its a double because the beds are together.
There was nothing to do in the evenings as there was no entertainment in the hotel. We was told it was because it is out of season, Well OK but if its out of season, then why is the hotel still taking money from the tourists to go there? (and it was not even a cheap deal)

There was a definate difference to the way the Germans were treated as apposed to the British.

If you want to go to a beautifull country then Croatia is just that. But if you dont want to go to bed at 9 pm through boredom then maybe you should think again.

I have just come back from a 2 week stay and I have to say it was one of the best Hotels I have stayed in. Its was spotless and our towels were changed everyday and the room were fantastic, we had a high floor with sea view over the bay. All the staff especially the bar staff were so friendly. The pool was great and a 2 minute walk to the beach which is right outside the hotel. We went half board and the food was lovely so much choice, my only complaint would be we like to go to dinner late so by the time we went the vegtables were not as hot if you went when they first opened.

We went on 2 fantastic trips: Kirka Falls which took our breath away by the scenery. Dubrovnik which is a must.

I would recommend this hotel and resort for a lovely relaxing holiday.

Hello,
just spent 2 weeks on Croatia's Dalmation Coast at the resort of Brela,we stayed at the Hotel Berulia,

the hotel itself was fantastic, very clean, modern, nice spacious rooms which were of a good standard and had lovely views of the Adriatic. The standard of food in the hotel was first class and so too were the staff, we personally felt that the hotel should have been listed as more than a 3+ hotel.

The downside of this hotel is that if you have any mobility problems whatsoever then forget it!with 103 steps to the beach its a bit of a treck, and even the layout of the interior is a bit ";upstairs,downstairs";...not good on the old legs, that is if you have old legs!but if you dont mind the extra excerise, then go for it. the location of the hotel is not brilliant, its situated between the 2 villages of Brela and Baska Voda, and as there is no bus service or courtesy coach, its a treck, and beleive me the roads are a bit scary to walk on,there are no pavements and a sheer drop on one side.

Brela is very small with very little to do there are about 4 restaurants, 1 very small supermarket, 1 gift shop,Baska Voda is slightly bigger, but again with not too much to do, we just felt that there was not a lot of atmosphere in the area and not a lot to do either,if its total peace and quiet and lovely scenery your after then it will be fine for you....but...and i must say it again.if you are looking for atmosphere the forget it.The other thing that was very evident here was the bad manners of most of the shopkeepers and locals, the words ";please, thank-you, and hello and goodbye"; were never heard, I found their attitude so ";cold and unfriendly";and the prices being charged were diabolical...nothing is cheap in Croatia.

Oh I forgot to mention that the hotel is mostly full of Germans,Russians, and Eastern Europeans...there were only 6 English speaking people in the hotel including us. Entertainment at the hotel was good, it had to be because there was nothing else to do here,

all in all I would sum up Croatia as being a lovely country, but has a long way to go to catch up with more popular destinations, and until its prices are reduced and its people become more friendly then I wouldnt be giving it the ";thumbs up"; It was an expensive place to visit, and not somewhere that I would want to rush back to.

We stayed at the hotel meteor in makarska in june 2006.The hotel was clean and our bathroom in particular was recently refurbished. We stayed on a b+b basis which was very substantial and varied including eggs bacon sausage and the continental fruits hams and pastries. We went on three trips one to Dubrovnik which was a long journey but well worth it.The second was to split a little closer and the palace of diocletian was facinating. Our third trip was to the island of Hvar by hydrofoil much quicker than the tour boats at the harbour.

We ate out every night the food was great and reasonably priced about £20 for 2 main courses with salad bread and drinks. This was our first trip to croatia and we have already booked to go again next year.

We were both quite apprehensive about going to Croatia and what to expect, as there was not much info on the hotel or many reviews, but this place certainly made Tucepi and Croatia a place to return to in the future!

Hotel:
The place is immaculate, all areas; pool, restaurant, reception, gardens, rooms, everything! It is so well presented and looked after. The rooms are above average, with satellite TV, mini bar etc.
I don't recommend paying for a 'sea view' as the trees are in the way in most rooms.
Pool was great, only concern was, there was no lifeguard. All the staff spoke English well, better than I can speak Croatian anyway! And they are so friendly.

Restaurant:
The food was nothing to write home about, but tasty. It was a little limited on variety. But it is so cheap to eat out in the town we didn't mind eating in there some nights, drinks are pricy though. The staff in the restaurant are very friendly and helpful. You get allocated a table for the week, and we got sat with another English couple luckily, but some people we spoke to were sat with foreign people who spoke no English.

Location:
Fab! You are 5 minutes walk from Tucepi town centre, lots of restaurants and 'tat' shops. The steps in the hotel take you onto the long promenade which goes from one end of the town to the other, 5 minutes walk the other way are a few really nice bars and clubs. The food, souvenirs etc are all SO cheap.
Beaches are very long, but pebbly, so take a lilo, or buy one for £3. But very clean, and water is crystal clear.
Bars we recommend: Batula, Havana and Coco.
Restaurants: Leonardo's terrace restaurant overlooking the marina (We had a gorgeous 3 course meal and large bottle of wine, and paid £25!!! You cannot fault it!

Excursions:
Mostar (in Bosnia) - Which got bombed in the 1993 war, a beautiful place and very interesting
White Water Rafting - BRILLIANT!

Recommend it for:
Young and old Couples andFamilies.
Not a huge nightlife, more people watching, so maybe not for people wanting to 'live it large'

Overall Evaluation:
Highly recommend
A****+++

The hotel Biokovo is a small hotel, right on the harbour with absolutely fabulous views. There are no balconies, but the rooms have shutters and a big double glazed window, so there is no noise from the road. There is no pool or sunbathing terrace, but it is not far to the beach, where the sunbeds cost £2 a day. They do not have mattresses on them but we bought some for £6 each and brought them home to use in the garden. The last negative point is there is no lift, but our bags were carried up for us when we arrived.

Now the good points - the rooms are kept spotlessly clean and the beds are very comfortable. There is a lovely en-suite shower room, with a very powerful shower, shampoo, soap and shower caps are provided. There is a minibar, hairdryer and TV (BBC World and Eurosport).

The staff were very friendly, especially Ana in the dining room. We had 4 nights half board and 3 BandB. The food was OK, not much variety at Breakfast and at night only 2 choices of main meal and one swweet, but well cooked.
There is a pizzeria which belongs to the hotel, but is open to the public and seems to be very popular.
There are lots of walks round the resort and buses run from the bus station not far from the hotel. We caught a bus to Baska Voda and the walked back (6 miles!) stopping at the village of Promanja for a very nice meal. Not all the bars and restaurants are open in May. The seaon starts properly in June.
If you are a toasted sandwich fan like us, you will not be in luck in Makarska, they don't seem to know how to make toast! Likewise there are no Chinese restaurants.

We went on a trip to Mostar in Bosnia-Herzogovina. It was very good and not as tiring as some trips although it was very humid in Mostar. Mostar and the bridge are beautiful although there are still some burnt out hotels and shell marks on houses, but don't let that put you off. We had local tour guides with excellent knowledge who took us to a mosque and a turkish house and they brought us back through the mountain roads which was quite hairy but the views were spectacular. Wear comfy shoes, there are lots of cobbled streets.

Just two words of warning - don't ask for an expesso coffee - it is a small black one -very strong and not what I thought - a frothy one! and secondly pay the extra when booking the hotel (it's not much) for the sea view, the back rooms seem to look out on a blank wall, at least on the first floor, it may be better higher up.
All in all, a lovely holiday, nice weather in May, not too crowded and beautiful scenery. Don't often go back to places, but this one is on the ";Would return list";
