Hello,
just spent 2 weeks on Croatia's Dalmation Coast at the resort of Brela,we stayed at the Hotel Berulia,
the hotel itself was fantastic, very clean, modern, nice spacious rooms which were of a good standard and had lovely views of the Adriatic. The standard of food in the hotel was first class and so too were the staff, we personally felt that the hotel should have been listed as more than a 3+ hotel.
The downside of this hotel is that if you have any mobility problems whatsoever then forget it!with 103 steps to the beach its a bit of a treck, and even the layout of the interior is a bit ";upstairs,downstairs";...not good on the old legs, that is if you have old legs!but if you dont mind the extra excerise, then go for it. the location of the hotel is not brilliant, its situated between the 2 villages of Brela and Baska Voda, and as there is no bus service or courtesy coach, its a treck, and beleive me the roads are a bit scary to walk on,there are no pavements and a sheer drop on one side.
Brela is very small with very little to do there are about 4 restaurants, 1 very small supermarket, 1 gift shop,Baska Voda is slightly bigger, but again with not too much to do, we just felt that there was not a lot of atmosphere in the area and not a lot to do either,if its total peace and quiet and lovely scenery your after then it will be fine for you....but...and i must say it again.if you are looking for atmosphere the forget it.The other thing that was very evident here was the bad manners of most of the shopkeepers and locals, the words ";please, thank-you, and hello and goodbye"; were never heard, I found their attitude so ";cold and unfriendly";and the prices being charged were diabolical...nothing is cheap in Croatia.
Oh I forgot to mention that the hotel is mostly full of Germans,Russians, and Eastern Europeans...there were only 6 English speaking people in the hotel including us. Entertainment at the hotel was good, it had to be because there was nothing else to do here,
all in all I would sum up Croatia as being a lovely country, but has a long way to go to catch up with more popular destinations, and until its prices are reduced and its people become more friendly then I wouldnt be giving it the ";thumbs up"; It was an expensive place to visit, and not somewhere that I would want to rush back to.

Pool area was nice, free sunloungers with mattresses for guests and plenty of parasols if you need the shade. There seemed to be enough loungers as a lot of guests went to the beach.
Hotel bar was ok. Didn't think much of the service, it seemed the germans got priority. They were friendly enough though. Beer = 15 kuna, Coke 12 Kuna, Coffee 12 Kuna.
The food in the restaraunt is good, but it is not suitable for vegetarians or fussy eaters. Lots of local delicacies and fish. We chose to eat out if there wasn't anything on the menu we fancied. Breakfast was exellent!
RESORT
The Hotel is in the resort of Brela. There are about 100 steps down to the beach but it is well worth it. The beach has been awarded a blue flag and you can definitely see why. It was busy so get down there early.
It was approx 10-15 mins from the restaurants and bars in Brela, nice walk along the sea front. I actually think the neighbouring resort of Baska Voda was closer. Baska Voda is busier so go there if you are looking for a later night out.

I really enjoyed my trip to croatia, it is a beautiful country. And the flight is only 2 1/2 hrs! Enjoy

I don't really need to add too much to the other reviews for this resort and hotel. However, I really do think you ought to know just how busy it was when we went. We had the last week of July and the place was absolutley heaving. We only got to sit on the beach once as it was so crowded. Mainly Croatians on their holidays. They seemed very content to park themselves right next to eachother and if the beach was full, even overflowed onto the path.
When we went on a guided tour to Split the tour guide did say this was the busiest time and the best time to go was late June or early September. Also it was extremely hot - in the 90's all week so be prepared for that.
I know this sounds negative, but it was a really beautiful place and it was easy to imagine how nice it would be if it wasn't so crowded. Would go back - but not at this time of year ever!

thoroughly enjoyable relaxing holiday, great for couples, the hotel was excellent and clean, the food was more continental rather than english, the resort and hotel was full of germans and not too many english, but it was still very enjoyable, all the english couples we met enjoyed the stay, very very quiet resort, and you can expect the bars to close around 12! the hotel bar closes about 11! so go out early!
beaches are lovely and quiet, sea is clean, overall fantastic holiday for a couple looking to relax and unwind.
enjoy!

Spent a week in beautiful Croatia and will most certainly be going back in the future. If you want a relaxing, destressing holiday this is for you.
The half board hotel is spotless, the staff are curtious and efficient and the food is varied and well prepared. The Italian influence insures that the ice creams are to die for.
We found eating out at lunch time easy with a couple of bars/restaurants just down from the hotel. The locally prepared pitzas are very tasty with other dishes on offer.
The beach is pebbley but suitable footwear is on sale cheeply if needed. The one attraction for us was the absolutely gorgious scenery. Here the pine trees skirt the beach and the smell of them when walking back from the town on an evening is wonderful.
We took 2 of the many trips on offer. Not to is to miss out on what this country is all about. Wish we`d had time to do more.
We went to Debrovnik which is like nothing we`ve ever seen. A walled city steeped in history, with good eating places in the back streets. Our tour guide Andrianna chatted most of the way explaining all about the culture, traditians and history of Croatia and Bosnia. The sceanery we saw can`t be explained. Just to say it takes your breath away and brings tears to your eyes. We brought a 36 film with us and ended up having to buy another, using all that too!
We came with pre-conceived ideas about this place and had them shattered after our stay here. This country is gorgious.
We went to Split on local transport. This city is very cosmapolitan. With liners and ships in the massive port. There are cafes and restaurantes where locals sit and pass the time. There`s a market in the center. Care on the steps here as the passage of time has made them very slippy.
Went on the boat trip in Omish. Which, while good was not as spectacular as the trip to Debrovnik but does include a meal.
Heard also that the fish trip to the 2 islands is also well worth the money.
The wheather was fabulous while we were there. So you can go home very tanned.
Hubby took a small fishing rod and caught 25 small ones off the small jetty throwing all but 5 back which we fed to a local marmalade tom cat who watched patiently.
Came home relaxed, informed and surprised. Great holiday we will go back.
