There are only a couple of bars here and a handful of restaurants, but all very very cheap!!
The weather was great when we went 30th August - 6th September.
I would recommend the day trip to Venice as it's only a 3 hour boat ride from Opatija- only costs £49!
The hotel Admiral was very nice indeed. The rooms were clean and had lots of storage which is normally unusual to find these days! The rooms also had good lighting and a full length mirror- which the ladies will be pleased to hear!!
The pool was lovely and big with plenty of sunbeds around them. It is a little odd in that there is no pool side bar but you only have to go downstairs.
The restaurant was lovely and spacious with a good selection of food.
The reception staff were very friendy and helpful.
There is a nice indoor pool but I was a little disappointed with the so called gym- it comprised of one exercise bike and 2 machines!
There is a great beauty clinic there if you fancy some pampering, all very reasonably priced!
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone! One thing though, it will take you a day to work out the lifts and stairs as the floors are unusually numbered on different sides of the hotel! we got there eventually!
All in all, we had a great holiday. It's a perfect location for a relaxing break.
I would come back again for a quiet week away to recharge the batteries!
Enjoy!

We origianlly started our holiday in Slovenia at Lake Bled(more on that elsewhere). Arrived at Hotel to find we must have the smallest room in the hotel and that it overlooks the bus station. Phoned the reps number and reported it, he immediately came and got us moved to a larger room on the opposite side of the hotel. The service and the food at the hotel were poor. Other than that the holiday was good.
Lots of trips to take, we took an excursion to Plitvice Lakes, absolutely beautiful, really awesome. Caught a local bus, no problems and fairly cheap, to Pula, another good day out and another bus to Trieste,Italy yet another really enjoyable day. No hassle cathing buses eveyone was really helpful and friendly. We also had an excursion to the island of Krk (pronounced Kirk, a beautiful island and lots to see and do, there was wine and cheese tasting, which was fun (watch the home made brandy!!!!!).
Our only other problem was the morning of our departure. We had booked an early morning call for 3.30am, which we didn't get, when our transport arrived at 4am they were told we were not in the hotel it then took about 45mins before anyone phone our room and we finally left about 5am. We arrived at the airport just in time to see our flight taking off. The rep at the hotel was very good and found a few alternative flights home but we ended up going to Manchester and then getting back to Gatwick with the help of my brother who drove up from Southend. finally arriveing home at 9pm instead of 1pm.

Just returned from Hotel admiral and we really want to go back!
We went on holiday in April and the temperature was average, warmer then predicted. The hotel was superb very clean. But what makes the hotel four star is the food. It was extremely tasty! It was different every night and there was so much choice we ended up coming home having gained 2 stone! The resort is beautiful with great shops for us girls (hubby wasn't pleased). The food is superb in Opatija. It is a mixture of itlian, turkish and spanish which as you can imagine is beautiful!
The pool at Hotel Admiral is quite cold though so beware! The pool is fresh saltwater aswell which we think made my daughters skin dry.
Overall a great holiday. Can't wait to go back!

We paid £30 per night for half board accommodation which is not bad for four star accommodation. Food was good but not by way of variety. Booze in the hotel was dear by local standards but not expensive by UK comparison. The local currency, the Kuna, was roughly 10 to the Pound which makes cost comparison and doddle - £1 = 10 Kuna. The Kuna is pegged to the Euro.
The Hotel Rooms were recently redecorated and all have balconies with good views. They are air conditioned and have comfy beds and decent bathrooms. As usual on the continent bring a travel kettle if you want a morning cup of tea! Rooms are serviced daily.
The Hotel is a renovated '60s development on the seafront with a Marina in front. It has an outdoor salt water pool that can be crowded and has limited lounger space. There is also a basic wellness centre with a saltier indoor pool that is quite large and usually underused.
Opatija has no beaches but has plenty of sea bathing areas. BUY WADING SHOES AS THERE ARE SHARP ROCKS AND SEA URCHINS THAT COULD RUIN YOUR DAY - THEY ARE CHEAP AND EASILY AVAILABLE - Snorkeling is popular along the small coves. Main 'beaches' can be very crowded in the high season.
There are some shopping opportunities in Opatija and the resort caters more for vistors from Germany, Austria, Italy, Hungary etc than for us Brits, but many people speak English and the locals welcome Brits. This part of Croatia was untouched by the Yugoslav War and has strong ties with Italy
Back to Opatija (pronounced Opatcha) There is a pedestrian promenade (that passes right in front of the hotel) that is quite scenic and runs for about ten miles from Lovran to the other side of Opatija. Along this prom you will find pebbly beaches, restaurants and great views in most directions. We recommend a stroll to Lovran and Icici. Rijeka is down the coast in the other direction and is an industrial ship building town that is best avoided, though if you go further afield to (say) the Island of Krk you will need to drive though it.
We took a trip on a high speed rib boat to the island of Cres where we swum and snorkelled for a while before returning. It costs £15 for this two hour trip and is good fun.
If you have an RYA Powerboat licence and are thinking about hiring a boat when you are in Croatia remember to pack your licence.
If you are looking for a different holiday from the usual Spain, Greece or Turkey destinations Croatia may be worth a stab. We certainly don't regret going and recommend the Admiral as a good place to stay.

Opatija is a resort that has rather lost its way! It used to attract a somewhat high class clientelle, but seems to have gone down market in recent years, however, it has too many middle europeans to make it attractive to the beer-swilling-clubbing-brits! There is a really good 'buzz' as people walk around in the early evening, but nowhere to really chill-out and relax during the day. There are no beaches in the way that beaches are understood in brit-land, only concrete platforms, generally with steps into the water.
We took the local bus a couple of times to the far end of the promenade - to Lovran - which is a much more pleasant village, and walked back both times to Opatija (taking the best part of a day over the walk - too many bars!) through Ika and Icici, both pleasant enough - but neither with beaches, only platforms.
The range of tours on offer is limited, but the two we took were good value (Istria tour and Plitvice lakes). Boat tours were not offered by our rep, but could be booked locally.
Prices are generally lower than UK - but as we have found on previous visits to Croatia - it is not a cheap country.
The Hotel Kristal is a perfectly adequate hotel, nothing special at all, but clean, and friendly. Get a sea front room, even if you have to pay the supplement, the alternative is to overlook the main road, and there's a lot of traffic (one way street, slow moving) with buses from 5am, and we did hear complaints of early morning delivery lorries. The sea view rooms get noise from the hotel / casino disco, but this shuts down at midnight *exacltly* and the double glazing is very effective (air-con as standard). The food is OK, but we took the opportunity to find some local grub (£26 for a three course meal for 2 with wine was typical).
There are a lot of Germans, Austrians, Italians and (of course) Croats holidaying in Opatija, English visitors were a minority, but English is almost universally spoken. Kuna is the only currency generally accepted (no Euros - suprising for such an internatioanl resort)
I love Croatia, but having been to Opatija, I don't feel the need to go back.

What a wonderful resort Opatija is - truly a place with something for everyone. Although there were very few brits, there were people of all ages from many countries enjoying the sunshine and the superb bathing amenities. Although there is no big sandy beach, the man-made platforms in the resort centre and in every little cove and bay for miles had showers, changing cubicles, cafes and all with stunning views of the Adriatic, the mountains and the islands.
Most of Opatija is built in a very grandiose, Victorian style and Hotel Imperial is typical of this, with its grand staircases, lobbies and a truly magnificent dining room. Single room was small but full of character with a lovely balcony with breathtaking views. Our double/family room was enormous, and all rooms have period furniture and good bathrooms. Food was good - breakfast buffet had everything anyone could conceivable want for breakfast (anda ew other things besides!). Dinner had a great salad buffet and main courses were served, with a choice from 5 or 6 options offered the previous night. All staff very nice, and baby-friendly!
In all a really great holiday in the most beautiful and varied resort we have ever seen, and in a hotel of true charm and style. Ingahms service excellent throughout. Highly recommended.

Easy, well organised travel though Adria Airways specialise in very hard seats and dubious sandwiches in flight. Crystal Rep delightful, lots of information available but no hard sell on excursions.
Hotel Kvarner historic and full of character - ";faded glory"; is a reasonable description. Right on the sea and surrounded by beautiful parks and gardens. Spacious, adequately equipped rooms kept immaculately clean but the decor could use a serious update. Buffet food good choice and quality, with varying but generally good service levels.
Opatija comprises about 2miles of busy main road adjacent sea (no beaches but concrete bathing platforms everywhere)and caters for most tastes without being brash. Could be a bit limited for those seeking nightlife although there are a few great restaurants, bars and coffee shops. Very historic town with beautiful italianate architecture and a sense of relaxation on the streets. Open Air cinema good and shows English films - also used for cultural events. We managed tickets for the National Opera whilst we were there, which was stunning.
The Lungomare (promenade), which stretches about 8 k from Volosko to Lovran, is very pleasant for walking but there are also water taxis and public buses running inland so you can choose how energetic you want to be. Buses are cheap and frequent but very busy and not very comfortable.
We enjoyed Opatija and found plenty to interest us but had pretty much exhausted the town's offer in a week. We took an excursion around the Istrian Peninsular which is beautiful, but the trip was run like a whistle stop lecture tour - a hire car and a map might have suited us better.
Whole area very popular with Saga Louts. I know we are technically in that bracket but we felt like the junior minority a lot of the time - be prepared for lots of older-end holidaymakers.
