This was our first time visiting Croatia so didn't really know what to expect, but we were very pleasantly surprised.

The hotel was set in a lovely location close enough to the town yet far away enough for it to be nice and quiet. The facilities offered by the hotel were second to none, rooms were bright spacious and very very clean, pool area was nice Jacuzzi was so warm, you could go down to the pebble beach which was just through the trees its only small but adequate for a bit sunbathing and relaxation and the seafront path stretched right along the coast you could walk for miles or get the train.

The only slightly negative part (trying to be as honest as possible) was the food, the breakfasts were fine they served the usual stuff croissants, bread, cereals, yoghurts, fruit and a hot selection, the evening meals were served buffet style or ";A la carte"; where you choose something off the menu this option was never offered when we were there but the rep said it is offered sometimes, although you could always find something to eat, the food was a bit bland and the choice of sweets always seemed to be the same every night! Nevertheless food was plentiful and reasonably priced within the town if you wanted to eat out, pizzas a speciality, we ate out a couple of times.

Porec itself is lovely they had quite a bit of development work going on in the centre and along the harbour front (new paths, lighting etc, its going to be lovely when it's finished) it didn't really affect anything we wanted to do. The marina/harbour area was nice to walk around it had plenty of restaurants and bars dotted along it so great to stop off and have a refreshment.

We didn't really go on many trips while we were there many were offered although we did go to the Basilica (ancient church) within the centre its about 10mins walk away and we did the wine tasting which I can recommend its only 20 minutes outside of Porec and the guide was superb, spoke very good English and was entertaining its only a 2 hour excursion but it was something different to do (and the wine was excellent!)

We would definately go back.

Booked through the internet and went with Ryan Air from Stanstead to Triest (Italy) and then car hire (Hertz) to Porec.

Excellent Hotel, Very friendly staff who could speak English. Food not as good as I thought for a four star Hotel but the only down point of the Hotel. Room was exceptional.

I find the Croatian people very friendly and hospitable. Porec is a wonderful town with lots to see and do. This is my second visit to the area in as many years and will be booking up for next year again.

Ryan Air is very good with very cheap flights, (£70) for two return tickets. Car hire at Trieste very easy, when you come through the arrival halls, the offices are directly in front of you. Just make sure that the documentation says you can go to Slovenia and Croatia.

Roads to Porec are very easy, but in Slovenia the main road is still being built, but diversion signs are easy to follow.

When you go back to Triest, there is a duty free shop between the border posts of Croatia and Slovenia, with Vodka at £6.00 for a litre.

Prices

Coffee - 10Kuna
Beer - 10kuna
2person meal with drinks about 100-150Kuna
Cigarettes (Ronhill) 11Kuna

When we went it was 11Kuna to the pound.

Everything is very cheap.

If you want a good meal in Porec got into the main street where the shops are, you can't mis this street as its the one with the large cobbles ( i am sure they must polish them every morning!!!) and look for the restuarant that looks like a small castle. Very nice owner called Vera and barman called Eddie. On our first trip we went there once and when we went back on our second trip they remembered us!!! This seems to be the way over there alot.
