Horizont Splendid Resort Reviews

We booked this only 2 weeks before so didn't expect too much as it was very cheap. However, we did expect a holiday resort - mistake!

Splendid Resort is like a really bad holiday camp - without the holiday camp facilities! When we arrived, it was pouring down with rain but we had to carry our own cases outdoors to our apartment which was quite a good way from the reception. Our apartment was basic but clean and we were comfortable. But we met another couple who had a very bad apartment which smelt of damp and they had to pay to move to another apartment.

The whole place is set up for Germans. We were told later in the week that we were the first British tourists to stay there - that was obvious! The centre of Pula is about 8kms away and you can get a bus from just across the road. There is a huge amphitheatre you can visit and the admission fee is very cheap, but apart from that, there's really nothing else to do. We did go on a trip to Venice which was fantastic and really good value for money so we would recommend that. There aren't many decent restaurants around and hardly any bars. We didn't use the restaurant on the site as we were warned by other Brits not to - apparently the food was awful and it was cold. There is a lovely little bar on the edge of the next resort which does a limited food menu but you can sit outside (if you get the weather) overlooking the beach. Most menus are in German so you have to ask specifically for an English menu or for it to be translated.

The pool is salt water so doesn't agree with everyone and the water is freezing. You also have to buy your sun loungers for the day - 25K each! which we thought was really bad. The weather was awful. It was warmer in the UK so I wouldn't recommend going in May/June.
