First impressions of the hotel Katarina were very favourable although it left us a little confused as the ferry dropped us off at the service landing stage on the wrong side of the island, not the normal ferry stop. This left us wondering where to go as there were no directions and the only other people went directly into one of the annex buildings and we were left trying to get into reception at a rear door that was locked. Once into reception, the area was clean, smart and welcoming, and we were dealt with quickly & efficiently. The room was clean although a little dated, and we had a balcony where we had a partial view of the town. Because we arrived late in the afternoon, we just had enough time for a brief look around the hotel & immediate grounds (again very favourable) before going into the dining area for the evening meal. All the evening meals (and breakfasts) were excellently displayed and tasted great and there was generally plenty to eat and a good choice. After our initial enthusiasms for the hotel, things went downhill. I always say that any hotel has to get the basics right, then the little things do not matter much. Here the basics are fine (good food, good staff & hotel in superb location), and if you can name a couple of niggles it does not spoil your holiday. But if there are 5 or 6 niggles, or in our case you could easily run off a dozen without even thinking too much, then I would not recommend this hotel to anyone else unless you are a family with small children. There were so many things that were not right (some small, some not so) which lead me to think that this hotel is not run very well. The issues are too numerous to mention here but here is a small selection:- Smell – Sewage. Smelt awful at times. By day 3 they brought across a vehicle on to the island to remove it. By day 5, the smell was back again. Below our room were two tanks buried into the ground with green lids on the top, and every day these leaked what looked like soap suds. They definitely had a drainage problem or two. Noise – 3 floors below us was the laundry. From 07:00 to 19:00 every day was the noise of industrial washing machines doing the laundry with a constant humming, except for the time when it was on a spin cycle and then it rattled the place. An afternoon nap was out of the question. Kids – I knew the hotel had a kids club (June & July only) but by going in September I thought there would not be any there or only a few. Wrong. Up to the first weekend there were about 30 to 40 small kids (aged between 3 – 9 years) running around the dining room each night and apart from noise & the danger of getting something hot spilt on them, it just was not a relaxing way to have a meal. Run down feeling – There were so many little things that needed attention. Sink useless, taps where you needed 2 hands to work them, outside paths needed repairing, there were lights on the paths but most did not work, the area’s away from the main blocks called a botanic garden were just overgrown and in desperate need of attention, and a couple of disused building that either need sprucing up or knocking down. There were loads of other things I could mention where I would expect a German run hotel where its main cliental were also German, would & should have been better managed. Overall the hotel was a bit of a letdown which is a great pity because it is in a superb location and has great potential if it can be managed better and have a bit of investment. The journey in the mini bus could have been far more relaxing. Because we were on a 2 center holiday we flew into Slovenia and were transferred to Rovinj and then for the second week were taken back the same way to Lake Bled. The journey both ways was with the same driver who looked like he should have been on a skateboard park instead of driving us. He drove way over the number of hours that is safe for any driver let alone a bus driver, and was getting through about 6 cans of red bull on each trip to stay awake. He left Venice at 04:00, picked us up in Rovinj at 07:10, the airport by 10:45 where he had a wait until 11:30 before repeating the whole journey again in reverse. The town of Rovinj is an excellent clean friendly place for a holiday, and although there are quite a lot of bars (not the noisy type – just nice relaxing ones), there is lots to see & do. It’s an excellent place to wander around or go on one of the several walkways outside of the resort and down the coast. Finally, must make a comment about the Holiday Options rep. I have seen many reps in my time and attended loads of welcome meetings, but this one could not be faulted. He kept the welcome meeting brief, informative & relevant and gave loads of useful advice and did not push day trips at all. At the end of our stay he was waiting on the quayside to help us off the ferry and show us to the mini bus even though it was only 07:10 am.

Food is disappointing, a little too samey, with fairly limited choices , we wish we had gone BandB and not half board ( more interesting , varied and cheaper) . Rovinj is full of excellent eateries all within easy walking distance of the hotel, as is the entire town. English pre-dominate in the hotel but not in the town it is more pitched to German , Austrian and Italians. Should you want them English papers are expensive (yesterday's issues of The Times at £4.90!)
There are no beaches here, sunbathing is at the hotel pool (towels at dawn is frowned upon but does still happen. We just moved them!) or at the waterside, on the tiny scattered pebbly beaches. The unsung asset of Rovinj is the bike path. The push bikes have no surprises, they are easy to use and cheap to hire and from the hotel there are no roads to navigate just a long purpose built cycle path (easy to ride) which runs parallel to the Adriatic, and skirts the coast way . Its a great choice to give an alternative activity.
Boat trips proliferate: the isles "; rundfahrt"; a 90 minute trip around the islands (with Quo Vadis) is good . The Venice trip was reduced to £39 because we had had poor weather , all looked fine til the journey home. That was a memorably rocky journey and took 3 and a half hours in pouring rain , thunder and lightening. The Prince of Venice trip was with Compass. Dont be put off by Mario's on board tales of lost passengers, a map of Venice isnt that hard to understand. Please dont waste your money on the package lunch , its way over priced at a poor establishment with a unpleasant food and rude staff! The gondola trip is good , (you must do it once?)

One of the only hotels I have been to set in such unique surroundings. Never any trouble to find sun beds, lots of them in the shade too, under trees.
A very large pool area, with a seperate children's pool. Lots of activities for the children al day.
Varied entertainment every evening, with waiter service for drinks.
The best thing about the hotel Eden has to be the food! I have read some reviews where people have complained. Can't believe it! The variety, choice and chef's specials are lovely! (Our half board option only worked out about £6 pp per day!)
Rovinj town is a lovely 10 min walk. A ";real"; fishermans village, not just the hype!Lovely bars and resteraunts, cobbled streets and lots of shops.
Would highly reccomend.

Our room was spotlessly clean together with the rest of the hotel. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful and could speak english very well.
From the restaurant you could see the marina, harbour and Rovinj town. The whole area was magical as the sun went down.
The food was very good with plenty of choice.
Early breakfasts could be ordered in advance from reception for those on excursions.
There are plenty of sunbeds around the pool. However, the pool was quite cold.
We visited Venice while we were staying in Rovinj. This was definately worth doing, even though it cost around £50 each. However, we didnt like all the pigeons in St Marks Square. During our excursion, we visited the Murino Glass Factory and also paid extra for a meal, gondola and water taxi ride - around £50 each.
We tested the local buses out with visits to Pula and Porec. We found them to be very reliable and extremeley on time.
We would definately return in the future.

Just spent two great weeks at this wonderful hotel. We are not used to Hotels preferring self catering, but decided to try something different this year.
It is a large place, but once inside you soonrealise that it is a very warm and welcoming, with the personal touch.
The rooms could be bigger, but they are quite well equipped (no drawers) and the bathroom is full size. TV is news only.
Meals are self service, but there is loads ofchoice, catering for all tastes. Restaurant staff are always on hand.
Entertainment was average, but we still enjoyed most of it.
We werethere is a heatwave, and were grateful for the large pool, and extensive tree covered grounds. No need for a parasol here.
Rovinj itself is a magical place. It takes about 15 mins to walk there, but it is full of narrow streets, and great places to eat.
We tried several trips, including Venice. All were a little rushed for us, but memorable.
Croatia, Rovinj and Hotel Eden provided us with one of our best holidays yet. Highly recommended.

This was our 1st time in Croatia, but it will not be the last. Flights from Manchester 1hr 50mins, although took 2hrs 20 mins to fly back, trans to hotel 40mins. excellent journey. Hotel Park although not pretty from the outside is a stunning hotel on the inside. We booked late so had a room at the front of the hotel which faces away from the sea, a sea view room is a must. Bedrooms very clean although on small size but no problem as we didnt spend too muuch time in room. Staff very friendly and helpfull and outside areas kept just as clean as inside. Food was excellent, a great choice every night, hubby very fussy but ate well all week, also cafes on seafront under the hotel great for lunches.
Pool area lovely lots of sunbeds and parasols, animation team good and did not make people join in. The Hotel is a nice 5 mins stroll to old town which has lots of bars and resturants. The bars on the rocks are magical, they are lit up at night and you can have a drink sat on cushions on the waters edge. The church on the top of hill is a must see. We hired bikes and went down the coastal path were there are little bays and pools and cafes to stop for a rest. We had a day trip to Venice this cost 50.00 each which we booked with Atlas which is at the side of the hotel. It was a full day but not to be missed, we bought a water taxi ride while on the boat which took us down the Grand canal, this was the best part of the day.
We really loved Hotel Park and Rovinj.

If you want a quiet relaxing holiday this is the one for your. The hotel is situated on red Island just a 15 minute ferry ride from the beautiful town of Rovinj, The ferries run every hour from 6.30 in the morning with the last returning at approx 12.30 at night and is free for hotel residents.
The Hotel food is Very Good with free beer and wine with the evening meal. Breakfast is not so good however it is adequate.
The Captains bar has its own jetty which you can sit on during the evening ovelooking Rovinj in the distance, whilst watching the sunset (very very romantic).
The poolside and beaches are excellent however if you use the beach the sun beds cost £2 per day with an umbrella an additional £1.50 whilst on the poolside they are free.
Red island links to Seagull Island by a man made jetty, again this is an attractive island with many areas you can swim from, This island is also used by Nudists so be warned, however they are discreet.
I would say that 95% of the rooms have fantastic sea views, and there is no surcharge for them. Hotel Istra has recently been modified at a cost of £27 million, This shows in the standard of the rooms bars restraunts and foyer etc etc.
The only negative is the seagulls which use the fresh water pool as a watering hole, they are also quite devious in stealing any food that they see, if you have a phobia against birds do not go, however if ornathology is your thing their are quite a few different types of birds to see.
Would I go back, Most definately of all the holidays I have taken this was by far the best, in fact perfect. Well done hotel Istra

Hotel Istra,Large clean hotel set on an island.Good food but not adventurous.large swimming pools together with other good all round facility's.
There are no sandy beaches here.
Boat ride to Rovinj is free to hotel residents, runs every hour while we were there in May.
We booked this on the Friday and went on the following Tuesday.2 hours from Birmingham and then a 45 min coach drive to Rovinj.Irena the rep was a local and very informative and pleasant.
Would recommend this holiday.

the town rovinj is absolutley beautiful, many bars and places to eat.the people are very friendly.we took the trip to venice which was amazing (exept for the pigeons)and well worth the money. check prices for trips outside the hotel as they were cheaper and just as good. the hotel was spotlessly clean and staff very good, only downside was food, more or less same menu every day although you could get good food in the outside cafes that are part of the hotel.we were going to book the eden hotel but were really glad we didnt.hotel is in a great location.
on leaving the manager came out to wave us off and thank us for staying there with a box of pastries which was a nice touch, we will definately be going back and staying at the hotel park
