We booked through Jewels of the world after receiving there brochure and thinking they were a professional company. How wrong you can be. We booked Bogaz because we were led to believe the hotel was a good standard, recently upgraded and in a small fishing village. Only the latter was true. We flew from Manchester with only a 3 hour delay. No one came to explain the delay or offer refreshments.
Upon arrival at Er can there was not a sign of Jewels of the world. So after 30 mins I phoned the hotel. We were told to get a taxi and we would be re-imbursed. There were 2 other parties waiting one knew where they were going one was allocation on arrival. I only hope they got to where ever.
Arriving at the hotel we were greeted by very friendly staff and given our room. We had 2 rooms adjoining one for our 12 year old daughter. The rooms were dirty, with scuffed paintwork and blood from insects spattered on the walls. Over all the furniture was shabby and in need of a facelift. Our bathroom had a shower which could only be used by kneeling down, it was so badly positioned. At night we think this is where the cockroaches came from.
The pool was still being built which in fairness we had been warned about. The restaurant was overlooking the beach where we had some very good food if not a little pricey. The kitchen was below the restaurant which was situated close to a smelly drain.
The beach was filthy covered in fag buts and rubbish. The sun loungers had no covers so you were lying on bare wood. The sea was filthy and you were swimming with carrier bags, sanitary towel and household rubbish.
To the side of the hotel had been restaurant area. This had been pulled down and left delapidated and overgrown. The front of the hotel was like a builders yard with sand and rubble left lying there. The back of the hotel was just a dumping ground with hotel rubbish, bottles and other stuff just rotting there.
Northern Cyprus we enjoyed. Climate very good, food excellent and the Raki very nice. Salamis is well worth a visit as is Kyrenia. The pan handle is very beautiful with great beaches. My only complaint about the Island is clean it up a bit. Don't drop rubbish where ever you feel.
If I were to return to North Cyprus I would never use Jewels of the World.
