"Protaras Property Edessa Apartment"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We stayed in a property (Edessa Apartment) that was owned by Protaras Property in a place called Kapparis. The apartment was probably the worst we have ever had the misfortune to stay in, apart from being in a not very nice area, the apartment was pretty grubby and most definately lacking in any home comforts despite being described as a "home from home". The main problem however was the lack of water, apparently Cyprus has a major water problem - We were not warned of this and on day 2 the water went off and we had no water for 28 hours. After many phone calls to the person who supposedly sorted out any problems, we did finally get a move to a quite nice villa, but the owner of the apartment was very upset over this and threatened to hold on to part of the £200 security bond we had to pay up front because the villa was more expensive than the apartment. Also they were going to charge us for two lots of cleaning of accommodation. They also then claimed that there was nothing wrong other than a water lock but nobody had bothered to come and look apart from a cleaning lady that the representative had sent round. We also found out from neighbours that the previous tenants had no water either. Several people in the area then said that the water pressure is turned right down and because we were on the second floor, the pressure was too low to reach us and that a lot of people in the block had had pumps fitted to sort out this problem. The rep was going to ask the owner about having this done but that was when we were offered alternative accommodation. I personally don't go on holiday to spend my day traipsing to the shop to buy huge bottles of water to wash dishes and flush the loo with, not to mention no showers or washing of clothes. To finalise, we have since our return from holiday, had a battle to get our £200 deposit back, during which several e-mails have been exchanged, with the owner of the property being very rude and uncaring, to the point of accusing us of being unreasonable in our complaints regarding the water problem. I would have thought that water was a pretty important commodity - well it is to us. We have had many lovely holidays in Cyprus, usually staying in the same hotel but as we took our two young grand-daughters with us this year, thought we would try the self-catering route - NEVER AGAIN and certainly not at that dump. The swimming pool area was very pleasant and not too far away - the best part of the experience.
