We have recently returned from a fortnight at the Bougainvillea Apartments in Polis. The apartments are conveniently situated near the town but are very quiet. Stavros was pleasant and helpful and his staff polite, but I can't say the staff were overly better than anywhere else we've stayed. We had two of the few one floor studios which were very disappointing. I think the two storey apartments were far superior and we felt the booking website was misleading. The balcony was minute and as a family of five we like to eat together - which was impossible. Also, the self catering facilities were very poor - you could either have two cooking rings or a small oven/grill but not both. This made catering for five pretty difficult. We went without the additionally charged air conditioning as another family told us how their a/c unit leaked over the bed. The swimming pool was clean and well kept but far too small for the residents of 28 apartments. As several other families put their towels out on the sunloungers at 8.30am every morning we rarely got near it. All in all staff try hard to look after the apartments and surroundings but we did feel that the Bougainvillea needed a major overhaul and some modernisation.

OverallExcellent Resort

We wanted a quiet, restful beach holiday which was exactly what we got. If you want a busy, action packed venue then Polis is not for you. The town had plenty of excellent restaurants to chose from. Our favourite was the Arsinhoe (yes we had to read that ...

We stayed at the self catering appartments of this hotel.Firstly , as everyone seems to say, the owner Stavros is a top man in making customers feel comfortable and welcomed. He has a hard working team around him.

This is a lovely and ";clubby"; type of set up. The Appartments are like terraced properties , from the balconies you cannot be seen or see your neighbours.

The properties are on two floors, downstairs doubles as a kitchen.living area and can be used for one bed at night.
Upstairs is a double bedroom and bathroom.
Size is generous, service is excellent and well kept.Outside are lovely flowered approaches.
There is a nice size and depth pool with a bar/snack counter.Upstairs from the pool is the reception area which has another bar and is light and airey. Each friday they organise an Indian night, this can help guests get to know each other, though some may find it somewhat contrived...food is good though.
I would have given this family hotel 10/10 but for one thing, which I would hope Stavros can see to, and that is the AC, it's not very good, most of the time we relied on leaving ( apart from front door) doors and windows open as being more effective. also it only works on upstairs room and is very noisey.
Overall though it's easy to see why we kept meeting people who had spent several holidays there,in my view highly recommended,in fact I too would return...but get that AC seen to :)

As for Polis. If your into great Med Cooking, this is the place,if your into cafe people watching, this is good,if your into Disco's forget it.
Our day was divided Pool, Car drive/Excursions, Pool, dinner.
We went on jeep trips into Troodos mts - fantastic,a boat trip from Latchi, we went to Pathos twice - water park and harbour ( and I have to say Paphos is becomeing very large and commercialised )and driving around the countryside.
There's also a good Karting centre just outside Polis
Dinner was a major consideration for choosing Polis.( we also lunched out on some days )Great restaurants such as
Stone Taverna at Neo Chorio ( car needed )
Farm Yard ( Kathikas ) any one of half a dozen fish restaurants in Latchi - £9 return by taxi
In Polis we enjoyed:
Finikas - ";poshish"; greek
Mystery Tavern - great homely cooking done brilliantly , huge portions and resonable prices
Arsinoe - Fab fish
Mikilis - good food at reasonable rates
Archontraki - similar to Finikas
Kourzis - just down the road from hotel- grfamily taverna
Moustakalis - a little disappointing for all it's reputation

I think it's a lovely place for a specific type of holiday and I'd go again

Our second stay at Bougainvillea having stayed there 2 years ago with First Choice. Stavros and his staff were even better than we remembered . Nice and quiet resort, though it does have all the facilities you need. Lots of restaurants nearby.
We booked flights and accomodation ourselves and saved quite abit against the tour operators price. My advice would be if you do travel with a tour operator then don't book any excursions etc on arrival. Stavros is more than happy to offer advice on places worth visiting and knows everyone in the town. Everywhere you go and you mention where you are staying all the locals say things like "; ah yes Stavros is a wonderfull man";.

I have never found anyone more helpfull when I have been on holiday.
We have booked for 2007 already.

Bougainvillea appts are basic, but have everything you need for a self-catering holiday. The staff and Stavos the owner were welcoming and the setting/gardens are very pleasant. However, the air conditioning was better left off because it was noisy, the rooms close to the reception are subject to returning guests and bar noise and there was building works starting at 07.15 next to the apartments.

I also recommend that you do not build up a snack bar tab/bill even if it is only for a few days as ours was a lot higher than it should have been. We also had some items go missing from our room i.e. several items of costume jewellery and a lipstick. You would have to lock everything including toiletries in your case as the hotel safes are very small. The sofa beds in the living area are fine for children, but you can feel the wooden slats through them so they are very uncomfortable for adults.

Polis is quiet and just a 5 minute walk away and the surrounding areas are beautiful. We would go back to Polis, but not to the Bougainvillea.

bourgainvillea appts were lovely, very spacious and well furnished - the staff and stavos very welcoming and helpful.we were a little worried when we read the appts were on the road, but it a very quite road and as all the appts are behind the reception and pool no one is near the road. the setting is great, lovely gardens etc. the whole place was very clean - the cleaners clean the room 5 times a week. the 2 sofas are used as extra beds in the living area. this was fine for the 10 year old - but a little short for the 15 year old.

the appts are only 5 minutes from the centre of Polis and 10 from the beach. the beach is a mixture of sand/shingle but nice and quiet. we prefered the beach where the turles nests were. it was almost deserted every time we went.
we tried loads of the restaurants in town. every one was lovely. the food everywhere we ate was lovely. we tried to eat all the local dishes but there was still 'plainer' food for the children if they wanted. the staff in all the restaurants were very helpful and at most of the restaurants we were offered drinks/ice cream/cake when we were paying the bill/
Polis is lovely if you want a quiet holiday - the area is beatiful.
we very much look forward to returnig to Cyprus one day
