"Great Place to Stay!"

Open quote

We've been to Paphos several times staying always in the same area, however this was our first time self catering and what a year to choose?! When we first visited the Island in 1998 the Cypriot £ was in use and you got value for money, the last time before this one had seen the introduction of the Euro as well as the C£ and you could see the difference in prices but it was still comparable to England. This year the Euro has really made its mark, prices have definitely increased - obviously made worse by our poor exchange rate. That being said we had a fantastic time, we've previously stayed in the Avanti Hotel but the Village is much better, it's cleaner, friendlier and the pool is by far superior. The rooms are what you'd expect from a self catering complex in terms of equipment but the size of the rooms are great. We were perfectly positioned in block A, blocks A & B are nearer to the pool, E & F etc are nearer to the road into the town. Lunchtime food by the pool is lovely, can highly recommend the omelettes. Having read a few reviews about this place I have to say I was concerned about security but can gladly confirm that there was no need to worry. We did opt for a safety deposit box (as we always do) and it was quite secure. Don't let people put you off. Rooms are cleaned every day except Mondays and Thursdays but the maids will still empty bins and change towels on these days. Maids really friendly and helpful. Yes there are ant's and yes some of them are big but they don't tend to bother you. Watch out for the cheeky kittens that nick your sunbeds whilst your swimming. Talking of sunbeds, have we all gone mad? Towels were on the beds from as early as 6am, we tried it one morning just to see. Seriously if you need a few beds and want to be sat together you need to put your towels out by about 8 - 8.30. (Saying that we went in August, in less popular months you may be alright.) Local places to eat, Ribshack is brill, the chinese above it is also good. Cheap and cheerful Crocodile. Going into town, try the mandarin palace and the Pizza place set back off the main road. Paphos harbour is much better now that it is pedestrianised. Have a brill holiday - we did and are definitely going back next year! Enjoy

Great holiday for my wife and me together with two teenage daughters - accomodation was clean and tidy and main bedroom was spacious with biggest bed in the world - pool is obvious attraction however you do need to get towels onto sunbeds before 9.00am if you want good location and a parasol.

Local restaurants are good and reasonably priced and food is genrally good to excellent especially the Ribshack and the Sole provider if you like fish - please AVOID fiesta bar - food is either frozen or poorly cooked or both and is expensive for what you get and customer service is non existent- if you like football and all that goes with the game then its the place for you - if you dont avoid like the plague - too many tatoos earings and football shirts for me - like a bad day out in manchester

avanti village great fun, great for kids, felt safe and secure highly recommended

Myself, wife and 12 year old daughter spent an enjoyable two weeks in the village, fantastic swimming pools, good clean rooms, life saving air conditioning (only gripe was hard beds) and excellent daily change of towels and room cleaned five days a week by staff, don't do what my wife did and pack 5 kilos of towels, you can get clean ones from reception anytime for the pool or your apartment, there are plenty of loungers and sunshades by the pools, though we found the brits seem to be the new Germans and towels appeared on a lot of beds very early in the morning before the owners turned up hours later ! being the hottest time of year we spent most days round the pool before venturing out in the evening for a meal, Paphos harbour is about a twenty minute stroll where you will find the best restaurants,we found Tea For Two good value with nice food, prices in Cyprus have soared since they joined the Euro currency in January and with sterling being so weak be prepared to spend more than you think ! there are a few places along the harbour where you can change sterling into euros (no commission) with a better rate than offered in the UK. Another decent restaurant is the Ribshack on the main road just opposite the Avanti hotel, if you do walk to the harbour take a tip and walk on this side of the main road to it as you avoid a couple of busy junctions with less chance of meeting one of the numerous boy racers that seem to use this road. All in all Cyprus is a lovely island with friendly people but we could'nt afford to go back till prices became more realistic but we did enjoy our time at the Avanti Village.

i feel that avanti village was fairly good in terms of cleanliness and service, the main strong point of the village in my opinion was the pool and the swim-up bar were we spent most of our days just relaxing in the pool and just swimming up to the bar when we felt we needed a drink. the bad point of the hotel was mainly down to the cost of drinks and most of the hotel staff were not very friendly towards you. an examply of this is that a large coke actually costs more than a large beer which does really make sense. during our stay we found of a couple of bars and resturaunts that felt we should mention such as "uncle sam's american diner" what served the best burgers and steaks in paphos but be aware as this resturant is a bit pricey. another resturant we found which was just over the road from sams is joe's that serves the best rack o ribs you would ever taste as boasted on the signs and lastely there was one little bar that we found that was pleasant was the good times bar the main thing we liked about the bar was that it was always quite and he would always have films, pool and table football going including a number of board games and magazines to read.

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a fantastic holiday at the Avanti Village in Paphos. Paphos is a terrific resort with plenty on offer for all ages. We wanted to get away from the 18-30 scene but we didnt want a holiday which was too quiet so Paphos is the ideal resort for people in similar circumstances. On arrival at the hotel we were assisted by the friendly reception staff who gave us our key and directions to our room. The village is quite large and it would have been difficult to find the room on our own. The room itself, although basic, was clean and spacious and contained all the amenities you could wish for. We were self catering so a cooker, toaster and fridge was just what we needed as in the evenings we ate out anyway. The sitting area and kitchen was one large room leading onto the balcony. The only downside of the balcony was the lack of privacy as all rooms are overlooked one way or the other. We were unfortunate enough to have a loud Scouse family living below us who kept us awake one night until 5am! I mentioned it to reception who were helpful and we heard no more from the family for the rest of the week! The bedroom was also spacious with a large double bed and plenty of storage space for clothes. There is a safe in the room at an extra cost of 2 Euros per day which was well worth it in my opinion. The ensuite bathroom was quite small but again very clean. The shower was very simple to use and the power/temperature could be adjusted very easily. Both the main room and bedroom contained remote control operated air conditioning units which were extremely refreshing and again very simple to operate. My only gripe with the room is it didnt contain an iron or ironing board. To iron your clothes you have to take them to a room behind reception (5 minute walk from the room!) and even then there is only one iron to share between the whole village. My advice would be to take a travel iron. The pool area is large and getting a sunbed is no problem even at midday. The pool side bar serves drinks and snacks all throughout the day. The pool itself, although large, is not deep at all so not suitable for diving. This is probably for safety reasons due to the many children and families but they could have had a shallow end as well as a deep area as children are not the only ones who use the pool. All in all the Avanti Village and Paphos are both highly recommended and we would certainly consider returning in the future.

We booked late on in the season and we arrived the resort was quiet. Might be a nightmare to some but to two very busy individuals..it was a dreamer. been to Paphos twice before so we knew where to go and where not to go...thanks it must be said to the informative reviews and walking around the area itself. the resort was being run on a skeleton staff who were all very nice (special mention to nicos and louisa) who were very polite and made you feel welcome. rooms are clean but i would not let anyone stay in my house with the stains and rust that was present in our room. It was clean, dont get me wrong but it if was a house viewing..you'd never sell it. no ants except one fella found early on by Gaye that in fairness could have kicked us out of the room if they had wanted but..never spotted another one. pool bar was virtually shut on second day and totally by the forth which was a little disappointing. outdoor pool was too cold for baby seals. gym to say was basic was an understatement but the entertainment (steve & chris) were nice people and could not be accountable for what they had to work with. breakfast (we were half board) was ok as far as being abroad goes. nothing to write home about so i wont start here. we did not go for the evening meal option as this was in the avanti hotel is older brother some 200 metres away. not lazy but we have stayed there before and agin you can only eat so many types of meat, chip and jelly desserts (cant you??). we on the whole ate out at either the rib shack (100 metres away) and fat mamma's which is situated on the tomb of the kings road (5 cypriot pounds each way) but...worth every penny. the hol bearing in mind it was mid november was weather wise quite good, fwe showers (yes, it rains in cyprus) and the nights were very cool in deed. in light of this we both got reasonable tans although this was due to clever (possibly not!) of no factor or oils etc...during the later part of the day. the sun comes up at 8 ish and sets for 5 ish which gives you enough time (clouds dependent) to get a good colour but, its not guaranteed. special mention must go a local cocktail bar nearby in a shopping mall owned by the atrion restaurant for providing some of the best laughs and cocktails we have ever had. Father & son run with a great atmospere. go when its dark for the full effect...nothing palacial but great never the less..all in all not too bad at all. we are not whingers, and would ilke to think what i have said is a true representation of our holiday. We are the type of people who enjoy each others company and can block out the little niggly things.one word of warning...a break in took place and the safe was ripped out of the wardrobe?? no sign of forced entry so i will let you decide how this was perpertrated. go when its out of season for a quality break without the screams and shreaks that would wake the dead are no where to be heard around the pool!! (as we did). PS if your a fan of the film "cacoon" try any hotel lobby after 8pm

Just came back from an amazing 2 weeks in cyprus at the avanti hotel as we were getting married in cyprus and it seemed a reasonable price compared to some of the other hotels in the area.
The hotel itself is clean and very family friendly which was a bonus as there was 30 of us out there including 10 children.

The hotel room was fairly spacious considering we had a double bed, single bed and cot and was cleaned every day.The aircon was a great help to as it got very hot and humid on a nightime aswell.
The large pool was great and the swim-up bar was just the thing for us blokes to sneak up to for a thirst quenching lager which you could charge straight to your room so no need to carry money around with you. There was always plenty of sunbeds but it started to get a lot busier the 2nd week we were there.

The nightimes were spent at the various bars and restaurants nearby including fiesta bar and grill, crocodile pub, pegasus and some of the bars on the outskirts of bar street as they were more family friendly.
The wedding went to perfection and we had the reception down at the harbour overlooking the boats at a restaurant called poseidonas which was recommended by the first choice wedding coordinator.

The only thing we could think of faulting the hotel is that on a nightime the drinks are waitor service so sometimes you wait longer than usual for your drinks but we would recommend the avanti hotel to anyone and we definitely will return there in the near future.

We travelled to Paphos with Direct holidays as we had travelled with them several times before and found great value for money. We went to Paphos to get married and chose the Avanti for its location and star rating and we wasn't disappointed. The service we had especially on our wedding day was first class and we couldn't have asked for anything more! The wedding meal on the evening was delicious and the cake we had with our wedding package was the best i have ever tasted. Our wedding Co-ordinator Sally was fantastic and made our Wedding day run smoothly without a hitch. We didn't lift a finger so our holiday was relaxing.

Our two children loved the pool, the only disappointing part of the holiday was the lack of decent beaches so if you like a nice beach holiday then Paphos probably isn't the place to come although a few miles drive up to Coral Bay with its gorge beach and watersports will easily please your kids!

The food in Paphos was good too. We stayed on a BandB basis but ate in the Hotel restaurant on our last night and we wished we had tried it sooner it was absolutely lovely and great value for money. We never had a bad meal in the resort. The Brazilian restaurant near McDonalds was a great experience and all the restaurants around the Avanti Hotel were good too especially the 'Rib Shack' and 'Rendevous'. For snacks 'Crocodile', 'Nature' and the bakery were very nice too.

Our first to trip to Paphos and although it is full of nice restaurants the shopping is restricted to supermarkets only. The Accomodation is certainly not 4 star although the rooms are large there is no microwave nowhere on the balcony to hang wet swimwear and nowhere in the bathroom to put wet towels. We had 2 apartments in block B overlooking the pool which was good but our bedlinen was stained and dirty and had obviously been used by the previous guests, this was rectified after complaining but they did try to change the bedcover from one of our rooms on to the bed of the other when BOTH were dirty.

The entertainment was non existant at the village complex apart from music being played a couple nights a week. The entertaiment at the Avanti Hotel (which is situated across a field or a long walk around) is no better with a saxophonist and his keyboard playing sidekick a couple times a week. We spent most of our evenings in the nearby Imperial Beach Hotel with some cheesy but great entertainment (thank you Brian,Rick and co) There weren't any kids club in operation in Avanti Village so I'm not sure what the other people saw who must have been there at the same time as us.

On a positive note (yes there is one) the pool area is very large and as we had a heatwave we were very appreciative of the many parasols and there was always plenty of room even at weekends when the world and his wife came for a swim. We did take exception to the fact that although the pool was cleaned every day the dirt in the bottom of the pool never went away including sticking plasters and chewing gum and towards the end of the day it would all be swirling to the top. While we were there a large group of people were allowed to sleep of their drink by spending the night on a lilo going round the pool no security was evident.

The reception staff were at best uninterested at worse down right rude as when the computers don't work but still take your money and nobody is interested to either refund you or arrange for them to be fixed. None of the public rooms have air conditioning and the temperatures are unbearable if you are there for any length of time our rep did her best to get it switched on but it never happened.

All in all we had a good holiday but the Avanti need some serious money spending on it to make it even close to 4 star.

I have just returned from the Avanti Village and can honestly say everyone in my party had a fantastic time. I went with my own family of four and with friends, also a family of four and we all had a wonderful time. The rooms were very big, clean and well equiped. The air con was a god send as we had a heat wave. The maid service was great and the maids were really helpful. The complex is quite big (we were in D block which is pretty much smack in the nmiddle) and does have a villagey feel. Once you work out your location its an easy and pleasant walk to the pool or to the main road where the restaurants are.

The staff are fine - there aren't many which may explain why other on this board feel they were miserbale, I personally just think they were busy. It was never a problem, we didn't have to wait long for anything. It was also great that you could put everything on your room, pool bar drinks, pool bar food. It made it much easier, we just paid at the main reception at the end of the week. The pools are great - the lazy river was fun for the kids and as its shallow gave peace of mind - it does have a strong current pushing you around though, so take care when stepping in. The large pool sloped from paddle depth to about 5ft. Not really deep, but deep enough for a swim. They had daily activities and asked everyone to join in (Archery/water aerobics/water polo). My husband used the gym a few times and said that it was fine.

We ate at the Fiesta Bar a couple of time - nice food, nice environment with the added extra of two kiddie play areas so if you have kids its ideal. We ate at Cavallini, an italian which was delicious. The Rib Shack, Napolean and The Imperial Garden chinese were all lovely places to eat. The Chinese was the best I have had out of the UK. The Avanti Village is a 2 minute walk from the Avanti Hotel where they have evening entertainment and about a 10-15 minute walk to Bar street. We went to Aphrodite Waterpark which was £5 in a cab, about £10 to get in (under 3's are Free)a brilliant day out and a great way to break up the week. We also went to the waterpark in Limassol which was a great day out too.

Overall we have a wonderful time and would not hestiate to go back to Paphos and the Avanti Village.

We have just come back from the Avanti Village and had a brilliant time, really did not want to come home! We booked our holiday through first choice and the reps were really helpful although we were delayed 3 hours on our flight home!

The village is massive and covers the whole length of a road!! There are seperate blocks of apartments A-F with A being nerarer the pool area and F being nearer the main road through paphos. We were in block A which was only a 2 minute walk to the pool area, the pool is huge and really good for children as it is not very deep, they also have a lazy river for the children aswell! There was plenty of sun loungers around the pool and there was always plenty available even in the middle of the day although this may change as it gets busier in July/August.

Our apartment was lovley and spacious as there was only two of us and the apartments sleep four. Had a nice big balcony with table and chairs, there are beds in the lounge which are used as sofa's during the day. The self catering facilities were good plenty of cutlery, plates, and cooking utensils. Also had a fridge freezer, kettle, oven with hob, and a toaster all were in excellent condition! The air conditioning in the rooms was brilliant and kept the rooms really cool, definatley the best air conditioning unit we've ever had abroad and trust me it was needed!!

Weather was lovley 29 - 30 everyday, visited the water park which was lots of fun and also plenty there for little ones too. We also went down to the harbour on a glass bottom boat for £5 which was good value for money but as the sea was very rough a few people were looking a bit green when we got back, myself included!!

There are some lovley restaurants around the hotel and i must recommend Cavallini's which is within 5 minutes walk from the village, the food was so gorgeous we went twice in the week we were there! Not a very good option if you have children with you and its quite expensive but definatley worth every penny, never tasted food like it!!

All in all we had a fantasitc holiday and we will definatley be returning next year!

Let us begin by giving you the only good point with the Avanti Hotel, that is the pool. It's big, clean and spacious with a lovely swim up pool bar and friendly bar and entertainment staff. That's where it ends.

ANTS.... they are everywhere. They are in your room, in the restaurant, on the pool side, on the walls and in the air conditioning!! Reception staff couldn't give a monkeys about you. Whatever the complaint they didn't care. They are probably upset at the extreme heat they have to work in due to the lack of air conditioning throughout the whole hotel.

Rooms! Decent size but terrible air conditioning and small bathroom (terrible toilet seat!)and just remember the thousands of small crawling unwanted guests!!

Paphos itself is a nice resort. Hundreds of bars and restaurants to choose from but nothing else. No shopping centres and no entertainment just pubs and restaurants. Having said that food in Paphos was a high standard, especially the Rib Shack, opposite the hotel, although everywhere is expensive to eat.

To give a fair review the Avanti hotel is not the best. There are much nicer in the area for the same price, namely the Alexander the Great, Anabelle, Almyra, Aloe and the Louis Imperial to name but a few.

Had an ok holiday but won't be returning to the Avanti Hotel or Paphos.

My wife and I and our two girls aged 14 and 6 years have just returned from a fantastic holiday at the Avanti Village booked through Manos. From the moment we arrived we were made extremely welcome.
As a destination Paphos is great, everything is clean and safe and the people are so friendly. There is plenty to do from water parks to bird sanctuaries and the climate was ideal at 25 to 30 degrees in early June. The flight is around 4.5 hours and the resort is a short 15 minute transfer

The Village is ideally situated within walking distance of Paphos Harbour and the very high quality Four Star plus self catering accommodation allowed the kids to have plenty of space with full size beds. Our room was equally well appointed and everything was spotlessly clean with the maid service ensuring we enjoyed the luxury of staying in a hotel combined with the convenience and space of self catering including a fridge for the all important cold water.

The apartments are set out just like a traditional Mediterranean village with meandering paths around beautifully landscaped gardens. The beach is just a short walk away as are a variety of excellent restaurants. Having come away for a rest we decided not to take advantage of the excellent cooking facilities in the apartment but to start our days with a great value for money breakfast in the Taverna by the pool. We also had several superb four course evening meals in the restaurant of the nearby sister property the Avanti Hotel which were buffet style and even had a special section of kid's food which went down particularly well with our youngest.
The facilities this complex offers are first class and everything is immaculate. Our kids particularly enjoyed the huge swimming pool which features a gradual entrance like a beach and even has a lazy river. The kids club is excellent and meant that we had some time to ourselves as our teenage daughter was well occupied meeting new friends and getting involved in organised activities from archery to table tennis. For the bigger kids I can thoroughly recommend the daily water polo although I should warn you that it may become a little addictive!
The weather was great as was the evening entertainment with a Karaoke, quiz night and even a Parrot show. There were lots of youngsters staying at the Village and both our children soon became inseparable from their new found friends.

As with all things it is ultimately the people that make the difference and the staff at the Avanti Village are the best I've ever come across! We were so sad to come away and will definitely return to the Avanti Village in the not too distant future.

Just come back after two weeks half board at the Avanti Hotel, we found the hotel to be very clean and relaxing, as we were getting married also at the hotel we were very pleased to find that the staff were very friendly.

The room was spacious with plenty of storage for our clothing, the room was also cleaned daily.

The breakfast was a huge variety of different foods (ie. cold meats, cereal, fruit, hot food, a range of breads. with dinner the food was always good quality and changed daily, even on the second week it may have been the same theme but a differet selection of food. if i returned i would not go half board as there are plenty of restaurants near by and we prefer to go out in the evenings.

The pool was very large and did not seem to get to busy, at times we were the only ones in there, the pool bar was great until our children felt the need to splash us :-).

With regards to the evening entertainment i felt this was the only part which let the hotel down they did the usual kids discofor 30 mins(same songs everynight our kids know the songs word for word now) and then either a singer which was sometimes a bit dodgy or bingo.

Our wedding at the hotel was perfect and food manager at the hotel was brilliant the service on the day was first class including the sit down meal which all our guests enjoyed, i would definitely recommend this hotel for a wedding!and i would just like to mention that Steven phillips our wedding co-ordinator (thomas cook) was excellent so if you do get married ask for him.

with regards to trips out we went on a glass bottom boat which was really good, we waited just before it set off before we booked our seats and paid ten pound less than the other passengers so may be worth not pre booking. We also went sea fishing which was great fun and a great place to get a tan, the best trip of the holiday was the jeep safari trip where you see the most amazing views and really get to see what a beautiful island Cyprus is, the kids also loved it as it goes off road.
