Just arrived back from 2 weeks holiday at the Rising Sun Apartments in protaras had a great time, ideal location next to beach and in a quiet location but close enough to walk to restaurants, bars etc. Hotel has a very friendly atmosphere and my kids enjoyed the daytime entertainment around the pool aged 11 and 15. Would go back again. Cyprus is very hot- a little expensive but we had some really nice meals at the restaurants. Did Jeep Safari trip and small boat trip. Overall very good holiday!
Very good choice of restaurants depending on your budget and affordability. Beaches good but would have liked to be able to walk further. There is plenty of things to do and see the small boat trip is a must! Good value for money. Did the Jeep Safari tr...

Based on the reviews on this site(rated no.1 in the resort)the Rising Star was slightly disapointing. We went for 2 weeks self catering and were placed in a block seperate to the main building(only 50 yards away).Straight in front of us was a building site, which was not worked on until the last couple of days in August but was then very noisy from 7.30 am onwards. The view to the left of our apartment was of the sea.The apartment itself was excellent,it had a large living area with an open plan kitchen,a large bedroom a good sized bathroom and a medium sized balcony. The air conditioning was free and was in the lounge and the bedroom. There was a t.v in the lounge but this was rubbish,12 channels only, most of which you couldn't watch because of the rolling picture on screen but occasionally there was English premier football(weekends)on channel9.There is a safe in the bedroom and the kitchen has the usual fridge,2 electric rings, small oven, kettle and toaster. The room was kept spotless by the excellent maids and she even replaced our broken toaster within minutes. The reception area of the Rising Star is spacious and clean and the staff on the whole were polite and helpful. The pool and pool area are lovely and are kept clean. There were plenty of sunbeds , though there were still the usual reserving with towels that you get nearly everywhere, even that being the case it was rare if you couldn't get one. We didn't eat or drink a great deal at the Rising Star but what we did have was average and a little bit overpriced( chips 3.15 euro, jacket potato 3.90 euro, full English breakfast 4.50 euro and large coke 2.90 euro). From the brochures and internet photo's it looks like the grass bank leads onto a beautiful sandy beach but this isn't true,it is a scruffy little patch that no one went on but the main beach was only a minutes walk away to the right of this area. The hotel/apartments entertainment and facilities were hit and miss. There are 3 pool tables,a table tennis table, dartboard, various video type machines and access to the internet ( 1 euro for 15 mins ) through 4 p.c's that hardly ever worked. The entertainment team that is spoke of so highly in these reviews (Andy and Sarah)is ok if you have a mental age of 5 or less with the same old crap rehashed day after day ! If I ever hear the cartoon heroes song again in my life it will be to soon. On the whole our stay at the Rising Star was very good though not really deserving a no.1 rating
This was our 2nd visit to Protaras in 3 years and the old saying never go back seemed quite apropiate for us as we had exhuasted just about everything the first time. That said the beaches were still brilliant and the sea crystal clear , the weather was scor...

What more can I say, our holiday at the Rising Star was absolutely fantastic in every way yet again. Rooms spotlessly clean, location out of this world, right on the beach and near enough to all the shops, restaurants and bars. Weather glorious every day, however we had a great pool to cool off during the hottest time of the days. The entertainment reps Andy and Sarah were the best we have ever come across, they had loads of time for the kids and adults alike, they made our holiday. Its great to see adults in the pool splashing around to Cartoon Heroes and taking it seriously !! The food was good and reasonably priced so there was no need to go out during the day for lunch or breakfast. A realistic score for the Rising Star would be 11/10. Try it you won't be disappointed, can't wait to go back next year.
The resort of Protaras is very family orientated, friendly and welcoming. Plenty of things to do during the day, and lots of water sports activities on the beach if desired. The Shirley Valentine boat trip is good value for money, the Captain and his missu...

Just returned back from the fabulous Rising Star, 4th year now, nothing changes much still an excellent place, good service, clean, friendly, no ear infections whilst i have ever been here. Now they have changed to the dreaded Euro. Prices havent increased due to the changeover but an average pint of the local beer is 1 euro, Carlsberg is 2 euros and in the hotels expect tp pay about 3 euros, an average 3 course meal on the strip is now about 15 euros, mc donalds is cheaper than in england. Still not the cheapest place to go but you get what you pay for. Aircon and TV is now free at the hotel. Still an excellent place to go.Would definately return again.

We've just come back from our third holiday to Protaras - our first to the Rising Star. To say that none of us wanted to come home is an understatement however, whether we would stay at the Rising Star again is doubtful.
Our apartment was roomy and spotlessly clean (thanks to the lovely maid who came in five times a week) BUT there was a down-side.
The reception staff were unhelpful in the extreme. We asked for a spare key as we had two 17 year olds with us who didn't want to come in when the 'old fogies' did. This request was greeted with a flat 'No'. I asked again the next day and received the same reply. This meant that they had to wake us up to let them in when they came in each night.
Within minutes of us arriving one of the 'put-u-up' beds broke. It was repaired the next day and promptly broke as soon as someone sat on it again. I then had to argue with the maintenance man who didn't think we needed four beds between us! Eventually they changed the whole bed for an undamaged one.
We were at the rear of the building with a side sea view. The balcony was tiny and only had seating for two.
We were on the first floor and overlooked the bin area - these are emptied every second day between 2am and 5am and they're not quiet about it.
There are serious plumbing problems in this building. We had hot and hotter running water and the noise the plumbing made was unbelievable. The taps in our room shook each time this 'noise' kicked in!
The cupboard space for four adults consisted of one wardrobe with eight coat-hangers. I had to empty the kitchen drawers just to put clothes in! Yet there was a floor to ceiling cupboard standing there useless because it didn't have shelves etc!
Finally, they didn't provide so much as a dish-cloth or tea-towel so we had to go out and buy them which I've never had to do before.
On a positive note, the entertainment staff (Andy and Sarah)were brilliant and the restaurants and bars are fantastic. Don't miss going to Olympus (a long walk but worth every step) for the best food and wonderful staff. Georgia (at the top of the road) and Il Basilica on the main street are also worth a visit.
I understand from the kids that Bells and Boogies are the places to go for a good night out!
The pool area and gardens are lovely and although there always seemed to be plenty of sun-loungers, they made announcements that towels would be removed from unattended loungers - and they did!
Protaras is a great place for all the family - young and old alike. This was our third visit and I have to say that this time around it seemed more 'lively' than previous visits probably due to the number of hotels that are springing up. There are numerou...
