"Absolutley fantastic :-)"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We arrived at the vangelis early hours in the morning to be checked in quickly & settled into our apartment we were pleasantly suprised with the size of how spacious it was we were in block D it was lovely & clean the maids were in 5 days a week. we had 2 teenage boys with us in our group 1 was 16 & 1 was 18 we also had a 5 year old with us as well there's something for everyone at the vangelis. We went all inc the food was lovely we had a couple of fussy eaters with us but no one went hungry, lots of choice. The pool was lovely & clean. there was an indoor pool aswel it was quite cool & refreshing after being in that heat all day it was in the 40's, the complex was spotless & in a superb location. most of the hotel staff was english the bar tenders were called Dan & Dave & both had a great sense of humour, the entertainment team worked really hard to please everyone & did a great job so thankyou to Gemma, Jodie & Brett for adding loads of fun to our holiday. my little grandson Keaton 5 fell in love with Jodie & still talks about the fun we had. our 2 older lads met some amazing friends there & are still in touch with them. The beach is a few mins walk away & is beautiful. All in all we had an amazing 10 nights there & are looking forward to going back next summer but it'l have to be 14 nights next time. We would definatley recommend the vangelis if you have teenagers & younger kids they'l love it.

"second year and again fantastic"
Overall Hotel Rating:
vangelis 2010 we came here last year and had the best ever holiday so was only right to come back this year. firstly checking in our first choice rep was waiting to greet us outside the coach and walked in with us making sure everything was ok thanks lauren. hotel receptionist very friendly and ten mins later we are in our room over looking the pool. we had a studio aprtment which to be fair theres three of us and it suits us perfectly may be a bit of a squeeze with four if you have teenagers. the air con was much better than last yesr too. the weather for the whole two weeks was boiling in the 40s every day so if your not into serious heat dont come to cyprus. we like the beach which is a three minute walk away so spent all morning at the beach then lunch at rives bar then the rest of the day at the pool. the entertainment is typical thomas cook the entertainers had it spot on this year the kids ranging from little ones right up to older teens absolutely loved them. its a mix of water games followed by the biggest splash which is great fun so a very well to you guys. eating out there is a choice of everything from traditional cyprus dishes to your mcdonalds most restaurants cater for kids with the usual nuggets and chips option available so everyone is happy. yes we found everything is expensive in protaras ranging from the food to the supermarket so if your used to spanish prices stay in spain if you want a bit more class then come to cyprus after your meal enjoy a srole down the strip which has all the usual shops and theme bars etc. then home for a glass of wine on the balcony then bed and up the next day to do it all again. i have niticed some negative feed back about the vangelis so yes you will have trouble finding a sun bed at 3.30pm yes there was a few cups blowing around the pool yes people do put there towels on a sun bed and dont actualy sit on it until 4.00 oclock but doesnt this happen wherever you go? the vangelis isnt five star but it is more than good enough for a family to stay in and enjoy a wonderfull holiday. thanks for a great holiday all at the vangelis and we will see you again next year

"Lovely Hotel, perfect location!!!"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Having read previous comments I must say I was nervous. We have been to Cyprus twice before but stayed near Nissi Beach, which we loved. Protaras was recommended, so we booked. On arrival we were pleasently suprised. I would agree that the rooms are a little small for 2 adults and 2 teenagers, but hey, its somewhere to sleep! Yes they are basic, but they are clean and serve their function. We were self cartering so didnt use the restaurant, but were told it was good. Ate out every night, Cyprus is a little expensive but the meals were amazing, lagre portions!! Would highly recommend Hippocampus and Happy days! The entertainment staff (Gemma, Jodie and Brett) were stars!!! Plenty to do throughout the day and the shows at night were fun!!Eddie the lifeguard also deserves a mention!!! The pool was large and well maintained, you are not allowed to reserve sunbeds, which was refreshing, but there were plenty of them, so never a problem. We booked through First choice and our rep Lauren was fab, always around and very very helpful. We are definately going back next year, and taking my parents!!! Please go with an open mind, yes its basic, if you want 5* book a 5*!!! We loved it!

Overall Hotel Rating:

"Vangelis Protaras"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The 1 bedroom apartments are rather small for 4 people to share, and are far from luxurious. The decor of the apartments is outdated and drab, and the balconies much too small for 4 people to sit on (Only 2 chairs will fit outside). We stayed in Block B which faces the main street of the resort and was therefore, noisy late into the night. On a positive note the rooms were cleaned daily and the pool and communal areas were inviting and clean. All in all the hotel was pretty average but access to the resort was good. If you do stay here try to avoid Blocks A and B.

"Just The Ticket"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The Vangelis is perfectly situated all amenities, especially bars, restaurants and the beach. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel has all that you would need for your stay - good sized pool, amusements, pool tables for kids and adults and an on site team of entertainers to organise many varied activities for young anh was old. We hired a jeep for three days and took off to the Troodos Mou ntains which was a bit of a trek to be honest. It also allowed us to explore the area around the resort and we stumbled across a great little Water Park in Panera - 3 mins away from Protaras - go there!! It's half the price of the one in Ayia Napa and the lifeguards are very relaxed and allow you to do almost what you want on the slides. By far our best day of the whole visit. Also in Panera is a restaurant called Flambe International serving proper Cypriot food and wine at 3 Euros for a caraf - well worth a visit!! The beaches in Protaras are excellnt, but avoid them on Sundays when the locals take over. One other tip to pass on (how could I not?) was the bakers on the main strip - Rossos Bakery. Go there in the morning to get baps, pies, pastries etc for a very cheap lunch. Iced coffee slush was another discovery we made in Cyprus - great drink to cool you down as it was bloody hot all the time we were there (day and night).

"Great Holiday"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Totally enjoyed this hotel and holiday. Yes the rooms are very basic but your not suppose to spend lots of time in your room on holiday. The beds are very uncomftable and not for people with bad backs! The hotel tho was amazing, all FOUR pools were clean and never had to rush out for beds as plenty to go round, something we didnt expect at peak season! The Thomas Cook team were amazing and did everything they could possible to ensure everyone had a good time. They were constantly friendly and always doing things to pass the day. The night entertainment was perfect for youngsters and once again the Thomas Cook team were fab with the kids. All three (Jodie, Luke and Alice) made my two childrens holidays so that meant we enjoyed too. We were self catering for the first week so we could go out and about to enjoy the night life where there was pleanty to choose from. We decided to go All inclusive the second week and we were not disapointed, plenty to choose from and to a very high standard. Protaras is a lovelly resort and the beach is a must as it is very beautiful and clean, however be warnd to take decent foot wear to walk on the sand as totally unberable to walk on with out shoes.... I burnt my feet the first day and was crying in pain. Will def be booking to go back again in the future.

"fantastic "
Overall Hotel Rating:
the vangelis is a great place to use as a base for your holiday. yes its basic but if you want 5 star then book 5 star. the pools are perfect for all ages and was very clean around pool area when we were there with a life guard on site. afternoon games were more catered for the teens and not the little ones. the ertainment was typical thomas cook so if youve experienced it before you know what to expect its basic but ok we had a hypnotist and various cover acts. we are already booked for next year so go with the majority and have as much fun as we did at the vangelis.

"Vangelis"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Apartments situated right in the middle of the Protaras strip so excellent location. Very basic room but ok, had everything you would need. Room clean enough but towels not changed daily which was bit of a pain. Area around pool kept clean. Hotel drinks expensive so we just bought from the shop which is only a 2 minute walk away. Pool area suitable for kids (2 out of 3 pools shallow enough for kids). Bed very uncomfortable. Take ear plugs as it is noisy at night but we expected this because of the location.

Overall Hotel Rating:
We have just come back from a 2 weeks holiday at he vangelis, we had a studio which was spacious had a double bed, a sofa and a travel cot (provided by the hotel) for our 3 month old and the was still plenty of space to move around. we went self catering and there i suffiient facilities for ooking meals, the pool bar menu was good plenty to choose from. as you are on the main strip it could get quite noisy but i found once the patio doors where shut you couldnt really here it. the thomas cook entertainers where great. laundry facilities which is good with a baby. pefect location 2 mins from strip with restaurants and bars, 2 mins from the beach, bus stop to ayia napa and paralimni right outside.

"Fantastic Holiday"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Just arrived back from the Vangelis and what a fantastic holiday we have had! Accomodation OK,stayed in D Block and the view was fantastic. Pool was OK and daytime entertainment was OK. Night time entertainment was great for younger children but not the teenagers. Resort were fantastic for teenagers, we took 3 15 year old boys and they were out every night (it was very safe). We also took younger children who made friends and had a fantastic time in the Hotel. We met some lovely people, a couple from Blackpool who kept calling his wife a different name and couldn't play water polo because of his prickly heat and his wife showing him up because she was a better water volley ball player than him as proved 2 days before the end of the holiday... We met a couple from Liverpool, he adored flying and his favourite film was snakes on a plane, his wife was also fantastic at water volley ball and won her first match she ever played mostly due to her partner... We met a couple of sand dancers who were probably the happiest people we have ever met in our lives (but she does tend to break the kareoke when she sang). There were a particular gang of people who made there own entertainment in the Hotel who sat towards the back of the bar... They obviously were not all inclusive because they brought in their own drinks in the evening and seem to enjoy thereselves tremendously, one night one of them won the bingo and had to go on stage and when asked his name he said "Richard from Sheffield" it was hilarious.. One of them drank whiskey like a Scotsman, one had sex on the beach cocktails like they were going out of fashion, one was probably the loudest, funniest person you could ever possibly meet who spoke his mind about everyone without being offensive but shocked people around him, one who made sure everyone was happy and was enjoying themselves who was just OK at water volley ball , one who liked to get into small infaltable boats and sale of across the pool when drunk and not forgetting the amazing twirl twisting breast woman who entertainned people with her amazing attributes, and last but not least the three nodders. The resort was fantastic, the beach was probably the best beach we have ever been on, we would deffernately reccommend the Glass Bootom boat trip to Famagusta (do negotiate prices )I would deffernately reccommend this Hotel to anyone who is out for a good holiday and has a fantastic sense of humour. Don't go in July or August it's too hot!!

"A Holiday Nightmare!"
Overall Hotel Rating:
My husband, daughter aged 6 and myself arrived at the Vangelis Aparthotel late on Wednesday the 30th July 2008. Our first impressions on arrival were that it looked dated. The reception had inadequate air conditioning and upon arrival if one wanted to have air conditioning in the room, use the safe or the television there was a deposit of 20 euros for each facility followed by a charge per day. We paid 70 euros for the safe and air conditioning for 2 weeks (70 euros in total inc the deposit).
As we walked to our room via the pool area there was litter around the pool namely plastic cups, crisps wrappers and cigarette ends. The sun beds were also ripped and tatty with not enough umbrellas to provide adequate shade from the sun. We also walked passed the open air dining room, where the food was served outside without air conditioning. There was limited choice of food and the smell was not pleasant.
The room was very basic. We were in Block A Room 1303. There were plastic sheets upon the top of the mattresses on the bed and the bed linen had dark hairs inside it. I slept for the two nights I stayed there on a rattan beach mat. The first full day there, Thursday, I saw the maid cleaning our room and she was using a dirty mop and she told me there would be no room service until Monday as she was off work. This would mean no clean towels etc. When I mentioned this to reception they said that an extra charge could be made by me to have clean towels and the room cleaned over the weekend.
The air conditioning was inadequate in the room and the bathroom was dark and dinghy and the mirror was broken - dangerous. The hotel would not accept responsibility for this and stated that there was no other room we could be moved to. On the second day the rep saw our room and said he had never seen a room like it. Subsequently we moved accommodation on Friday but at a cost to ourselves. It cost us £1,900.00 to stay at Vangelis Aparthotel and a further £717.00 to move.
Please take my advice, if you live in a clean, nice home and expect the same on holiday, the Vangelis is not for you. We spoke to several people whilst we were there who were of the same view as ourselves but had been told they could not be moved or alterantively could not afford to move.
In 2007 the Vangelis received Thomas Cooks Marque de Excellence. I am personally not sure what has happened since then. First Choice rate this accommodation as a 4 star but I feel more a 2 star.
