Average is the ideal word to sum up the Ablion Hotel and Conference Centre. It has a lovely reception, where clearly 85 percent of the hotel's construction budget was spent. Hence the hundreds of reception pictures on the website.

The room was acceptable, clean and no frills, but all you need for a city break. The breakfasts were again average, the usual buffet with the emphasis on our German friends meal taste! The evening meals were poor. Again a buffet charged at 300kc each, but really it was only worth 100kc at a maximum. The usual salad and variety of meats. The hotel has a lobby bar and a beer pub.

The beer pub was closed for private functions and we never seen it open. The lobby bar served drinks all day but food after 9pm. The food was limited pizza's and sandwichs etc The lobby food was of a good standard and was very reasonable.

The main problem with this hotel is the guests. The vast majority of guests were under 20. We spoke to the lobby waiter who advised that the majority of the guests that stayed at The Albion were students visiting the city from the surrounding countries (usually Austria/Germany), they were on organised "school trips", with around 2-3 adults supervising 20-30 students. This led to alot of noise and a feeling of being swamped by teenagers. They spent most of there time smoking, shouting and drinking around the hotel complex. This hotel does have the feeling of a youth hostel.

The hotel is also around 30 minutes away from the centre and you will have to pay either 300kc for a taxi (1 way) to the centre or pay 28kc per day (1 way) for the bus then the metro.

Prague itself is a bizarre place. You will walk down a drab street that could be in back street London, turn the corner and be faced with a fairytale palace or museam. It is rich in culture and energy.

You do need to be mobile to walk around the city ...
